Ok, everyone can come out of their shelters; the Red Sox-Yankees series is over. You can freely discuss your teams without fear of being bumped aside.

Figure this is as good a place as any to ask this...could someone tell me what the following mean?

OPS

OPS+

ERA+

WARP2

I only ask because I get kinda confused when I'm reading baseball blogs and see the above pop up. If there's any other obscure stat categories I should know that aren't listed here, please let me know. =)

OPS is simply the sum of On Base Percentage and slugging percentage.

OPS+ is OPS, adjusted to the league average and for the player's home park. An OPS+ of 100 would be league average, an OPS+ of 110 is 10% better than league average, and so on.

ERA+ is the same concept as OPS+, except with earned run average.

WARP2 is also seen as WARP3. I believe the numbers designate the version of the statistic, but I could be wrong. It is short for Wins Above Replacement Level. It essentially seeks to measure a player's contributions above the level of a substitute player. It has its supporters but I have never used the statistic myself. Baseballprospectus.com could give you more information.

Ok King. But what I am supposed to post about if The Yankees are my favorite team? Should I pick a second fav team? :D

Seriously though, this brutal road trip continues. Well ESPN is showing the game tonight though Brown is pitching. And since the los angles angels of eastern anaheim on the pacific ocean is up next , I know the local channels will show all of the games. But thats a scary matchup cuz the angels always give them fits.

Brewers play the Cardinals now and Im a bit nervous for that. Milwaukee has looked pretty good lately...before the AS break the won a roadtrip through Florida and Atlanta and after the break they won 3 of 4 against the Nationals. Now its time to play the best team in both the division and the league (maybe all of baseball)...

Hopefully Brown can hold it together tonight for 5-6 innings. If not, I fear for his back.

Thankfully Redding is gone. Is that the shortest stay ever, while actually playing in a game?

Sammy Sosa just hit a 2-run bomb to break up a shutout in the seventh and the way that Bedard's pitching, the Twins aren't liekly to come back. Don't write off the Orioles just yet.

The people that Baltimore's getting off the DL are better than all the mercenaries the Yankees and Red Sox can find to take their dirty money.

"Dirty money"!? Heh, I'm pretty sure we launder our money like everyone else.... :D

It's a slugfest but it's against Texas so it was bound to be. At least we're on top.

Goddamn. The Nationals commit three costly errors and lose to the Rockies.

I'm thinking you were right, Mik. ;)

Well they took Bedard out a little early, (he did just come off the DL after all), and the Twins got a little bit of a rally going, but the Orioles just turned a picture perfect double play to get out of the eighth. They should be all set now.

And we all know that the Red Sox and Yankees money is dirty because they have too damn much of it. Any GM with an IQ above 90 should keep them winning at least 100 games a season.

Well, I jinxed the Orioles into giving up runs twice with my posting, but they still held on and beat the Twins 3-2 on a solo shot by Tejada in the 12th. I don't care who gets a spot between the Red Sox and Yankees, but the O's are going to take the other one either way.

Man, if any game has shown every single Yankee weakness in one night any better, than I haven't seen it. 'Course, the Sox can't hit for shit against lefty starters (big shock) and Manny would rather check out the inside of the Monster than get in position to play, so they aren't the only ones with problems.

Honestly, the AL East is wide open and will remain so for the rest of the season, I think. The Yankees just have far too many glaring holes to fix with nothing great to fix them with, the Red Sox seem to be on Cruise Control again (though Schilling's looking good). If the O's land Burnett, they've got as good a shot as any. Hey, even Toronto does when Halliday comes back.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Toronto and Baltimore fighting it out for first with the Yankees and Red Sox close behind and fighting Minnesota for the WC come late-August. 90 wins might be enough for the division this year.

It seems as if the Dodgers are selling all of their starting pitching, and most of the big contracts. After one good year they go back to rebuilding.
