Another greenhorn injures Stevie Richards

Recommended Posts

From David Gaworecki's house show report on WrestlingObserver.com:

The Boogeyman bt. Stevie Richards by countout. This match was really strange. Boogeyman does all sorts of weird things like rocking back and forth on his heels and loping around the ring, topped off with random screaming and weird faces. Dr. Phil needs to have a serious talk with this dude. At one point, Stevie gets tossed out of the ring and takes a horrendous bump on the outside. Referee takes a long look at him, and then counts him out. Boogeyman looks legitimately confused, and then makes his exit. The referee checks on Richards, and puts up the “X” sign. UH OH. Other officials run out and check him out for a few minutes. They help him to his feet, and half drag him back to the dressing room. The entire time Richards was grabbing his ribs. The match itself lasted about 3 minutes. Everybody looked a little worried because the whole thing seemed awkward. No big move, no anything; just a standard fall to the outside with a countout and an apparently injured wrestler. Weird. Hope he’s okay.

Put this one next to Hirohito on the "gimmicks they'll realize are dumb before they even make it onto the air" list.

And so it came to pass that being injured by a green wrestler became known as "getting Stevied".

Without seeing what happened how can you seriously blame the guy for Stevie's injury? It was a toss over the ropes spot, it's my understanding (without any wrestling training whatsoever) that it's the person taking the bump's responsibility to take it in a way that won't cause themself injury. All the Boogeyman did was "toss" him, Stevie took the bump.

Why do they keep booking Richards against these people? Nothing good will ever, EVER come of it.

Because a) Whether you like it or not, he's enhancement talent at this juncture,

b) Funaki is busy jobbing to cruiserweights, and

c) These kids are supposedly PRO wrestlers, and should have some idea of how not to hurt the other guy.

I was kinda thinking the same thing, but who knows?

It sounds weird, feel sorry for poor Stevie. I think the Boogeyman should do some really out there shit like I saw this guy Rasta the Voodoo Man do on Global back in the day. He can do spells and then his opponent will grab a leg in agonizing pain, then Boogeyman can simply pin him.

Hey, it'd at least prevent him from legit injuring anyone.

No.....I think the idea of it being a parody character is the only way to go for him to survive

Gretting from under the black resistol!

Stevie Richard is a brave young man and could improve by playing college football in his hometown. He could become a Tuff HOSSEE like Goldberg, Dr Death, Bradshaw and Brock Lesnar.

Even if it wasn't Boogyman's fault, the fact is Stevie has rotten luck with these rookies.

And I do like the term "getting Stevied". That's a keeper.

Great wording there in the topic header, blaming the rookie for the injury when by the report; it clearly indictates Stevie bumped wrong.

Stop blaming rookies for injuring Stevie. Richards is the most injury prone wrestler alive. (although Masters was completely at fault)

I like stevie but clearly he can't go 2 months without getting hurt.

Stevie could have been tossed out with enough force that he couldn't control how he landed. Or he could have just bumped wrong. It's hard to tell who's at fault by going off the house show report.

I'd be more apt to lean towards "rookie hurt Stevie", but it's hard to tell.

Yet he took a vertebreaker without any ill effects (and his injuries tend to be neck-related, since it was broken years ago).

Maybe he did a bad gorilla press.

In some circles, the above quote could actually be racist. I'm insterested to know if this is the case, as it seems odd that it would be put with nothing else.

Well, to be fair, The Boogeyman could have done a gorilla press over the top where he just kinda dumped Stevie/lost control of him while holding him up/etc., any of which would have inhibited Stevie's ability to control his landing.

Geez, poor Stevie. How come Val Venis never has this kind of bad luck?
