Guest Angora Jellyfish Report post Posted August 14, 2005 Oh good, chev the Hip Hop Constable is here to remind us that any rapper who doesn't rhyme 83 syllables per bar isn't a true MC. 2pac was excellent in a billion ways besides wordplay from his naturally strong voice, thought provoking subject matter, insane mic presence and charisma, and pop appeal. Why the grouchiness chev? Is it because Japanese businessmen sing "How Do You Want It" karaoke while MF Doom bags groceries to supplement his royalty checks? Is it because he speaks to millions without rapping a backwards backpacker riddle with "secret" metaphors? What's really the issue here chev?
Guest darealdeal21 Report post Posted August 14, 2005 Kanye West is so damn overrated its not even funny. 1 hit song and hes this music icon
AboveAverage484 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2005 I don't remember who mentioned it, but the "7 Day Theory" is probably 2Pac's worst album. Biggie was good, but Rakim (style and flow wise) and Chuck D (lyrics wise) were both better. I always think the GZA is underrated as well when it comes to "best MC's" arguments. The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2005 I was going for Kanye West but whatever works. Or is Kanye "DA GUBMENT GIVE MAH PEOPLE THE CRACK"? One or the other. Maybe both. I don't really follow these things.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2005 You're confused, Czech. Kanye is all about hatin' on the white man, Talib focuses on the AIDS and crack factors.

snuffbox 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2005 Im guessing that many of you haven't actually 'listened' to Kanye West or Talib Kweli. Ya'll would really hate Saul Williams... With Kanye - Is it the massive radioplay that has diminished his credibility in your critical minds? Is it kinda like the whole 'its cool to dis Led Zepplin or the Beatles' thing? Annabelle 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2005 I haven't liked any Rap since early Public Enemy, give me a reason to listen to this? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hes the most talented musicia since Jeff Buckley. He has the most drive to be perfect and prolific since Tupac Shakur. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> kanye is okay. at best. very average. he'll be a greatest hits rapper just like tupac, although his work did raise jay-z's level of greatness. the blueprint is remarkable. someone needs to tell kanye less is more. i cut out about 7 tracks from his debut lp on my ipod, and it made me love the album so much more. but kanye couldn't even dream of touching jay. and if jay can't touch nas, than kanye can't touch nas. beanie sigel's album from this year was better than college drop out. so was the pretty toney album. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> holy shit i better take this back. not only does late registration spare us many of kanye's lame ass skits, but this album is amazing from beginning to end. late registration, people. get it. trust me. college dropout is like kiddies play in comparison. remember with college dropout that you wanted it to end because it went on and on and on. not this time. its hit after hit after hit. after hit. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2005 Late Registration has just as many lame ass skits as College Dropout does. What album did you listen to?
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2005 shorter inoffensive skits. not rants like last time. only 4 skits this time. was like 7 on the last album. edit: does anyone else despise bruiser chong as much as me? i'd really prefer if you didn't respond to any of my posts again. you really bother me. for both of our sake. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2005 So yeah, it's good. I really dig the Gil Scott-Heron sample on "My Way Home" and I'm happy to see Common and Kanye still doing their thing. A Common/Kanye/Legend tour coming around to the ACC would make me a happy man. Really fucking dissapointed in the Game being treated like Nate Dogg on "Crack Music" even though the song itself is fucking spectacular. Little weird that the original version of "Diamonds" is the bonus track but that's probably just Kanye being..........original. Yeah, that's it.
Hank Kingsley 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2005 Weird how it's the remix of "Diamonds from Sierra Leone" that actually deals with...diamonds from Sierra Leone, while the original just deals with Kanye and his bling and people pronouncing his name incorrectly. I like those two, along with "Touch the Sky" and "Gold Digger" on the first few listens.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2005 I finally found out today that Foxx is singing Ray Charles on "Gold Digger". I wish I'd have known that two weeks ago as I had a huge argument with a co-worker who insists that it's something Foxx or Kanye wrote for the song. Victory will be mine, albeit a little late.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2005 Foxx was singing in the start and the rest of it was a Ray Charles Sample.
Mik 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2005 Am I the only one who is really digging "Heard Em' Say?" It's probably my favorite song on the album, or very close to it.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2005 I just like the Otis redding sample on Gone, and Consequence blows both Kanye and Camron out the water with his verse. Damn fine album but I think there were like 5 skits, right up there with the first album. Just as annoying honestly. Broke Phi Broke was no more funny than the "Get my degree's" guy in the first album.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2005 Really fucking dissapointed in the Game being treated like Nate Dogg on "Crack Music" even though the song itself is fucking spectacular. The less Game, the better. Weird how it's the remix of "Diamonds from Sierra Leone" that actually deals with...diamonds from Sierra Leone, while the original just deals with Kanye and his bling and people pronouncing his name incorrectly. That's because it wasn't even his intent to address the situation. Only after others drew parallels did he wise up and do a remix that focused on it.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2005 The "Diamonds" remix is much better than the single, so I'm glad it's there. The Broke Phi Broke stuff sucks, but the album as a whole is good. It might be great, but I need to listen to it a lot more to figure that out. The only part of any skit I needed on the first album was "No, I don't know what sex is, but I bet I can add up the change in your pocket, very fast." CBright7831 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2005 That's false, because, well, nothing is better than Ready to Die. Maybe Aquemini, depending on my mood. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> nah. ready to die is the greatest rap album of all-time. maybe only illmatic or 36 chambers is close. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Chronic and Doggystyle disagree with you.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2005 at this message board i post at, we have this wonderful thread about people who shouldn't be able to discuss music. cbright fits into that category with his "the chronic is the best rap album of all-time" talk. the chronic is as overhyped of an album that there'll ever be. anyone who is biased towards the west coast, or is entangled in the whole eminem/dre/50 relationship will invariably boast that the chronic changed the rap game with dre's wonderful prouduction & yadayada. like many, or most, of the death row roster, the chronic is another album which places style over substance. there's a few "bangin'" tracks, but not a cohesive collection of songs that have a meaning, or have any soul. superficial. and yes, you are onto something. the greatest superficial album of all-time is doggystyle. one of the greatest party albums ever. the greatest gimmick rap album is 36 chambers. but as far as just being a well balanced rap album, neither will come close to touching ready to die.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2005 The largest problem with The Chronic is its so-so second half. I love the album dearly, but all of the Dogg Pound guys do much better work on Doggystyle. There's a stiff blend of party tracks and hard-talk gangsta tracks on The Chronic, which makes it difficult to recommend for either purpose exclusively. That middle stretch of stuff like "High Powered" and "Stranded on Death Row" are largely posse tracks that lack beats as interesting as material that even dates back to the N.W.A. albums. Banky's right in that Ready to Die does a better balancing act of all these things; Biggie does it all even within single songs.
Fökai 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2005 shorter inoffensive skits. not rants like last time. only 4 skits this time. was like 7 on the last album.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Did about five minutes of googling and checking my copy of Dropout... College Dropout has seven skits, coming out at 5:30 if you're REALLY generous. This isn't taking into account 'Last Call', which runs 12:40, or the skits that run over the end of music tracks into its designated track. The album clocks out at 76:25. With 'Last Call', which I do count, the skits run 18:10. Late Registration runs five skits at 3:10. I haven't heard the entire album in its unedited form, so I can't vouch for whether songs have long skits placed into the music tracks. The album clocks out at 69:48. Annabelle 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2005 you know who the greatest party rapper is? ghostface. he doesn't say anything worthwile. but he's responsible for two of the deifinitve rap albums of the 21st century. pretty toney album as so much soul. thats soul. and its bangin.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2005 Eh...I still say Nelly is the greatest party rapper. he says even less than Ghostface, yet his singles are beaten to death at any club/party you might go to.
Mik 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2005 Forgive me if this is obvious and I'm totally missing the connection, but is the beat for Drive Slow a Tupac beat? I can't find any of my old Tupac CDs to check myself, but it definitely reminds me of or is one.
