That handshake was cheesy as hell.  Sickening even to a point.  I was hoping that HBK learned something from Jericho at WM 19.

What the hell's with all the illogical handshakes in WWE lately? First Matt Hardy with Vince, now HBK with Hogan?!

Before the end of this year, we're probably going to see Eddie shake Rey's hand.

Damn, the writing truly sucks now in WWE.

How about Vince/Bret? :P

A Shawn/Bret embrace would be dumber, so it seems more likely.

Might as well have MAtt Hardy and Edge hug tomorrow night on Raw and have Kane and Lita reunite at Unforgiven.  Christ, this shit is so bad

It actually makes the Austin-HHH Two-Man Powertrip after their heated rivalry in 2001 seem like a good idea by comparison.

About Vince/Bret, Downhome: Good point, but Bret's conflict with Vince ended a while back anyway, despite the obvious Montreal '97 Screwjob that turned Bret and Vince into bitter rivals for a while. Matt Hardy's "hatred" for WWE and Vince was just several months ago.

Jordan/Benoit didn't really happen. Jordan's reign is possibly the worst and most undeserved SmackDown title run since the brand split, narrowly beating out the Basham's. Thank God Benoit has the title, I ask PLEAD for Benoit/London or Benoit/Regal at No Mercy.

Edge/Hardy was absolutely awful. Where were all the submissions from Hardy that Dave Meltzer promised? Bad, bad, bad stuff. I hate both guys. 1/2*

Eugene/Angle was a okay squash for Angle. Bad comebacks by Eugene. Kill Eugene off, PLEASE. *

Cena/Jericho was pretty exciting. Not much more than that. ***

I missed part of Undertaker/Orton, but what I saw was a below par compared to their WrestleMania match. I'd give it ***, tops. I will rewatch it though because I liked their other stuff.

Batista/JBL was okay yet dull brawling with a good finish. Thank you for keeping it less than 15, Vince. 3/4*

Eddie/Rey had two major gaffes, but nothing else was THAT bad. My friends and I did NOT like the ending there, though. Not a great feud for either man. ***1/4

Hulk/Michaels was very entertaining crap. Michaels did a tremendous job of overselling absolutely everything, making the fight look very fake. I kind of liked the stupid finish. Kind of. ***1/2, my MOTN.

EDIT: Overall, I thought this was a decent show. Vengeance had better wrestling, but it didn't have a more enjoyable main event. This is the second best three hour wrestling show I watched this week (I saw ROH's Nowhere to Run on Tuesday, which absolutely blew this show away).

What's the story with Hardy-Edge anyway? Was the corner bump by Hardy legit? It looked to me like he totally blocked it with his hands and it didn't even hit his face.

I liked the Michaels/Hogan handshake. I'm kinding of thinking here that they're building to I guess Austin vs Hogan at Mania?

The handshake put over Hogan as the better of the two and more importantly the legend that Hogan truly is which is needed for Hogan's future match against Austin.

. Michaels strayed away from the straight and narrow path for a little while but it was only because the lure/temptation of fighting Hogan was too strong. Now that he has fought Hogan and finally knows the question of what he can do against him he can at least rest in peace somewhat. Michaels' question has been decisively answered so it's now okay to go back to his good guy routes. If Hogan can do this much to a man's thought patterns than it speaks volumes for Hogan's legendary status. Something of course that is needed in the final, epic battle vs Austin.

Good PPV overall. Benoit's lethalness, Eddie vs Rey and Hogan vs Michaels made me happy which is something I haven't been in a long time watching WWE.

I have most of results in my blog, but some notables.

Cena/Jericho- I agree with CM Funk. ***. Jericho cant stay at The Brand- hes not going to get title shot again.

Undertaker/Orton ** Interferance killed it...

Hulk/Michaels- Old School Ranking- ***...now its ** and 1/2. If Hogan pulled out his NJPW moves its 4 stars.

Not the best Summerslam...but not the worst.

I hope everyone enjoyed us booing the shit out of eugene and cheering for angle

FYI, hardy's headdrop looked legit, he was f*cked up, and the ref almost put up an x but stopped

Man, everyone is trashing this show it seems but hey, my goals for the evening were simple ones:

1. I wanted Orlando Jordan to get the shit kicked out of him. He did.

2. I wanted Batista to finally kill the god awful JBL push. He did.

Look, some of these matches needed to be ass kicking squashes. Eugene had no business facing Angle, so he got his ass kicked and booed out of the building. My feelings towards this year's GAB have been documented on various threads, so of course I was overjoyed to see Benoit kill Jordan tonight (now release him).

Hell, I know everyone is whining about Michaels jobbing like a bitch, but really look at the big picture. This is a matchup of two eras: 1980s WWF vs. mid 90s WWF. 80s WWF was insanely popular, mid 90s WWF was crap. The funny thing is that if this match had happened 10 years ago it would have been similar to what we saw tonight.

If you look at this show for what it was you'll like it: An apology for the hideous GAB PPV and for some bleh Raws of late. Anyone sick of JBL, Jordan, Eugene, and the Eddie/Rey feud would be satisfied with this show tonight.

I somewhat agree with wildpegasus above though I think Hogan's victory might have had more to do with Triple H. I think if Triple H really wants to fight Hogan again and avenge his loss he would want to face a Hogan coming off of a victory instead of a defeat. Triple H beating Hogan now would mean more then beating Hogan who had lost to HBK. Triple H doesn't want to wrestle damaged goods, he wants Hogan riding high and unbeatable.

I'll go ahead and just give this a C+. Worst PPV I've seen this year (1 Night Stand - Royal Rumble - Wrestlemania - Summerslam....in that order) but not anything totally horrible.

Had Benoit Jordan gone longer and the Edge/Hardy match not ended so stupidly, It would have been in the B range and it would have been a good PPV. The first two matches just drug the whole show down, for me anyway.

That's one way of looking at it, which is fine.

My way of looking at it is that they were building up HBK who was red hot as the heel in the fued. The hottest heel in the company for the past month or so. It all goes to hell just to have Mr. Come and go go over cleanly, and then you make Michaels look like more of a bitch by having him kiss Hogan's ass at the end.

How do you explain the heel turn and all the shit HBK did by saying "I had to know". tomorrow night on raw i can imagine

"Hey Hulkster, Now its true I cheapshotted you with sweet chin music more than once, yes i ran a video segment making a mockery of you, yes i trashed everything you've been in the last 20 years......but, it was nothing personal, I just had to know, hulkamania is gonna run wild forever sir. I love you so much"

I hate respect feuds and handshakes. I don't know why people frequently call for respect feuds on these boards.

In wrestling, you don't get respect from a handshake. You get it when you beat it out of the other guy, along with the living shit.

Haven't been through the whole thread, but I agree with what I've seen posted about HBK/Hogan. That ending was terrible.

As far as the other matches:

I really liked Orton/Taker. I think Orton should've gone over clean there, but the match was really enjoyable I thought.

I didn't like Eddie/Rey the first time watching it, but after seeing the replay, it really wasn't all that bad. Overbooked, but not that terrible.

Mixed feelings on Matt/Edge. I liked the fact that they tried to play the match as a shoot, but I hate how they had Matt go out like a chump in the end. Having Edge win by stoppage wasn't necessarily bad in itself, but considering the hatred that's supposed to exist between these two, I'd have at least liked to see Matt keep coming after Edge. They should've had to drag him away from the ring--at least that way both guys come off looking somewhat strong in the end. As is, I think Matt looked weak as hell.

After the crowd's reaction to Jericho, I hope WWE gets the message and keeps him in the World Title picture in the near future. As poorly as he's been handled over the last year, for him to be getting that kinda reaction vs Cena says something (whether that's good for Jericho or bad for Cena, I dunno).

Eugene/Kurt was fine for what it was. Batista/JBL was aight too.

No problems with Benoit/OJ.

I'm not so worried about Shawn as I am Eddie. They have just BURIED Eddie this year, almost to the point where the fans are actively siding with him when in theory they are supposed to be for Rey. The really weird aspect of this feud is that winning all the time has totally killed Rey's heat. Rey isn't the sort of wrestler who should dominate a feud, he isn't credible or big enough for it (he works better getting his ass kicked a bunch of times, then maybe getting a win...it builds sympathy). Seriously, why should anyone sympathize with Rey right now? He's humiliated Eddie in every match, made fun of his past drug/alcohol addiction, and now Eddie's own wife has turned on him to deny Eddie custody of his biological son. That said, the result tonight was for the best since it gets Dominick out of the storyline.

But really now, what's next for Eddie? If they end it now for good, he's jobbed SEVEN times to Rey and hasn't got 1 single win back. His career is down the tubes right now and he's so far out of title contention it's not even funny. At the end of the day that's what makes this feud so bizarre to me....Eddie is someone who can be pushed to the main event again, while Rey isn't a believable main eventer. Ask yourself this: Could Eddie beat Batista? Well he beat Brock, so yes he could. But could Rey? No way.

I don't buy it. This is Hulk Hogan we're talking about, not some guy like Benoit or Jericho. Hogan plays the game better than anyone and I highly doubt he'd let something like that happen.

Good point. Let's not forget these are the guys that kill anyon'es heat that is immensely over. Ask RVD, Jericho, Christian, HArdy (when he moved to Raw), Eddie, Kane

hey everyone, just joined tonight.

i came into summerslam hyped belive it or not, but picked most of the outcomes.

benoit - oj - qwik finish -reaction= shock then realized it was about the 3 hour limit ppv*

edge-hardy-not as much stiff work as i wanted, but then again it WAS an angle, one question to anyone who might have hada better view- WAS THAT A "WORK" juice or a hardway bleed off the turnbuckle?? my thoughts on the ending depend on if matt was truly concussed =|

eddy vs rey - i wanted eddy to win just to see him mold dominick into a badass- but marked out halfway thru and started pullin for rey- dunno why- maybe it was the " you f**ked up chants directed at men risking thier lives and careers for OUR enjoyment- and i did notice that the sunset flip off the ladder spot went awry, BUT lets see anyone of those a$$wipes in the audience even THINK of doing that for any amount of money(maybe they dont understand that both men could end up crippled trying stuff like that )/ end rant =]

orton-vs taker- big orton fan here- the kid is a prodigy. huge taker fan since the debut at survivor series (was that like 89?) anyway i knew orton had this i was just watching closely to see how both wrestlers performed and i was pretty happy - the triple tombstone reverse was cool. did not like the ending cuz i knew it was cowboy but hoped it would turn out to be hassan during the unmasking =[

spazgene vs angle -no brainer here, was upset when eugene got the medals in that disgusting way to begin with, so i expected an angle squash and got it, kinda lookin to see if eugene could even APPEAR to be able to hang with the greatest ring general ive ever witnessed- no dice. no surprise either.

///on a side note: angle heel or not is the absolute king of wwe- endurance , risk, temper, skills( mic and obviously between the ropes and outside them for that matter) and my god the FORTITUDE- anyone remeber the triple threat with him HHH and rock? he was knocked out cold after a pedigree thru the announce table and CAME BACK to finish after being taken to the back!! that is the exact moment he gained superhuman status to me

cena vs jericho- expected a y2j win here even tho i like cena( not just cuz he raps very well for a white guy)- just expected wwe to give heat to jericho with the strap and have cena battle as an underdog to y2j and bichoff. cena's strength is incredible- man i wanted that FU off the second rope to hit!!

jbl v batista- picked jbl here to further the feud but i was wrong. wanted to see some real hardcore action like jbl showed against cena- did not get it- final demon bomb onto steps was one HELL of a bump.

hogan -hbK- watched this one mainly cuz i wanted to see hbk come thru with the boasts he claimed during the hilarious larry king promo- but was not at all surprised when hogan hulked up and nailed the win over a much better wrestler. dissapointed here. but hogan is the reason this federation and all other exist today- cant fault him for not wanting to tarnish his legacy after hbk called him on it totally =/

but then again hogan lost to alot of people- its not like hes undefeated- they could have let him lose this match ESPECIALLY after hearing on this very thread that an austin hogan match at WM22 is being rumored, i dont get why he needed to win this match- maybe as someone said " to set up austin hogan as the end all be all of WWE superstar status" that makes sense and works for me AS LONG as hogan austin happens at wm22

thx for reading and respond plz---

very sorry for the massive post- flame the snot outta me hehe

What a load of shit this show was.Eddie vs Rey was full of blow spots, maybe **1/2 stars at best. 3 DUDs US Title, Matt vs Edge, and Batista vs JBL. Jericho vs Cena, Undertaker vs Orton, and Angle vs Eugene was maybe * to ** tops. What makes this show worse is that it wasn't really outright bad which at least make it entertaining, it was just kind of "there". My friends and I were all beginning to fall asleep by the time Undertaker and Orton came out. It was just a really really boring show overall.

Live Report:

-Benoit got a huge pop for his 1 minute win. It was awesome and the crowd loved it.

-The Eddy/Vicky thing went on too long and the crowd was chanting "We Want Wrestling".

-Hardy/Edge was ridiculous, but I guess we should have expected it. Lots of "We Want Matt" chants when Edge came out and Lita got the slut and crackwhore chants. Big pop for the spear through the ropes. Crowd hated the finish, they didn't get what happened and even those who did hated that it happened this way. Total burial.

-Rey/Eddie was great. Crowd was pretty split and there were several Eddie chants and big pops for both guys when they hit big moves. I was sitting in the section right above Dominick btw. Some of those bumps looked brutal especially the run up the ladder spot where the ladder fell on top of a falling Rey. Eddy appeared to hurt his leg or ankle on one of the final ladder bumps and seemed to be throwing a fit over it for real but continued on. Big pop for the finish actually with a lot of people yelling "push him off" when Vicky came out.

-Angle was mamothly over and the crowd HATED Eugene. Big "You Suck" chants for Angle's entrance but it was out of respect. I should mention at this point that the guy sitting in front of me, had to have been one of Eugene's types if you know what I mean, an older guy who clearly did not believe wrestling was fake. Everytime me or my friend would make a smark comment or cheer for a heel he'd snap back around and correct us or CHANT REALLY LOUDLY AND OBNOXIOUSLY for the face. It was awful. So anyway, as we're cheering for Angle he asks why we're cheering for such an evil bastard, and I had had enough and snapped back "because wrestling is fake, and Angle is an olympic gold medalist and Eugene is a retard". That shut him up. For a while at least. HUGE fucking pop for the ankle lock and the medal presentation.

-Vince in the limo got a big pop. I of course popped for Ken Mehlman and Ed Gillespie when they were shown (didn't know they were fans!) but the majority of the crowd booed. Oh well, that's expected.

-Taker's entrance really is awesome live and the crowd loved it but for most of the match they were pretty quiet, I think burned out from popping for Angle. Orton actually appeared to be the favorite and there was a big "RKO" chant in the beginning and a pop for when he won. Crowd didn't seem to get that it was Bob Orton in the makeup.

-Cena/Jericho might have been match of the night live. Jericho clearly had his fans (me) and Cena his haters (me again). This made for a great atmosphere. All the kids (and the retard in front of me who might have popped a blood vessel and/or a vocal cord BELLOWING for Cena everytime we'd chant for Jericho) were cheering for Cena but a large part of the crowd was for Jericho. The highlight was the mamoth dueling chants towards the end where neither side wanted to give ground, it just kept getting louder. The pop when Jericho pulled him back into the center was mammoth too. The kiddies took over for the pin though.

-I caught 2 JBL 100 dollar bills from the ceiling. I think most of the crowd totally missed him coming out because we were crained upwards trying to catch some dollars! Batista got a big pop as expected on his entrance but otherwise wasn't as over as I would have expected. I think the crowd was really burnt out after the vocal battle that was Cena/Jericho. Guardrail spot and the powerbombs got over big though.

-OK, I thought at least SOME of the crowd would have cheered for Michaels and booed Hogan since they were so pro Angle and Jericho but boy was I wrong. Hogan is the man. I don't know what to say, he'll be 80 years old main eventing WM50 and getting mammoth reactions. Shawn had no hope. Not one HBK chant. Except for some slow spots in the beginning (a boring chant!) this was as good as you could expect. Shawn was bumping like a madman, flipping around diving around and just being the man but the crowd was going nuts for Hogan's offense on him. The ref bump/sharpshooter spot worked like they thought it would with everyone crained towards the entrance and chanting "We Want Bret" but I knew he wasn't there. Superkick got a big pop, the Hulk Up was deafening though. Hogan probably bled the most I've ever seen him bleed. Post match when Shawn went for a handshake the crowd was booing and didn't trust him but after Hogan encouraged cheers they cheered him. His posing routine went on for a while and I'll admit it was hard not to smile and get into it. This guy is one of a kind. Austin better just stay far away.

Overall a good show. I'm thinking it might not have been the greatest show on TV since there were no blow away matches but nothing actively sucked either (well the Hardy finish was an abomination) and the crowd was really hot. I'm tired of that Seether song though that they were blasting throughout the arena every other second.

The Observer said the plan is to Rey in a program with Randy Orton and Eddy to start a main event program with Batista. For all the complaining about how bad the angle was between Eddy/Rey, it was the only thing that has kept Smackdown from plummeting in the ratings. It was the only television draw Smackdown had.

I have to agree with Meltzer on Eddy Guerrero. When Eddy turns face again, he will be bigger superstar than he ever was.

Thanks though I do think Hogan's victory plays into Austin/Hogan in the long run. Hogan beating HBK ensures that he is not beaten in back to back PPV's. If Hogan had lost tonight against HBK then he would've probably been looking at back to back PPV losses which would've damaged his legendary status in my opinion and would've hurt the build up for a possible Hogan/Austin match.

Don't know how reliable this is but...

WWE was planning on having Batista/Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio/Randy Orton programs following Summerslam. However, it now appears as if WWE plans to go straight into the Batista/Orton program following Summerslam.
