The Czech Republic Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 Simpsons and Family Guy are too mainstream.
nl5xsk1 Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 Do you mean literally the best, or the that is most fawned over by the elite masses?
The Czech Republic Posted October 21, 2005 Author Report Posted October 21, 2005 Most fawned. I should have clarified.
starvenger Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 It's 'Family Guy'. You can call it "too mainstream" if you want, but if it weren't for a vocal internet fanbase, it would still be in show purgatory. Personally, I don't care for the show, but I can't deny the amount of online adoration for it. As for Arrested Development, winning Emmys tells me that it's not just an internet darling, so I can't in good consience vote for it.
Black Lushus Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 I voted MST3K...I hate that show...I don't understand why others like that show...perhaps there's more to it, I don't know, but I can't get into a show about people dogging on old campy b-movies...I can do that myself, why would i watch others do that?
nl5xsk1 Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 I voted AD, purely on the fact that people that don't like the show are told that they 'don't get it'. And I think that 24 should have been on the list.
Slayer Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 I'd say MST is fairly mainstream, and similar to SV's argument, the vocal fanbase did help it transition from CC to SFN to live for another three years (and produce some damn fine episodes). ... BUT I'd pick it on this list anyway, as I don't hear quite as much about the three HBO comedies, and I certainly don't hear a lot about AD outside of this board
MillenniumMan831 Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 I voted MST3K...I hate that show...I don't understand why others like that show...perhaps there's more to it, I don't know, but I can't get into a show about people dogging on old campy b-movies...I can do that myself, why would i watch others do that? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I used to get invited to MST3K viewing parties. By the time everyone wanted to pop in the 2nd movie, I'd just make myself comfy and fall asleep. If I can't sit through 4 hours of wrestling in one sitting, no way I'm watching THAT for 4 hours. I pretty much loathe the show now.
Dandy Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 I voted before reading the clarified explanation of the poll. I was thinking their were several funnier shows than those listed, including--but not limited to--Family Guy, Reno 911, and The Simpsons (not as good as it used to be, but still funny).
Big McLargeHuge Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 I don't understand what the vote for, really, but I don't get the massive love Family Guy gets. I absolutely loathe this show now.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 And I think that 24 should have been on the list. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 24 is hardly comedy.
Annabelle Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 the best are in particular order since i know comedy more than most 1. curb your enthusiasm 2. larry sanders 3. arrested development
SuperJerk Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 I must be the only Mr. Show mark around here. All of those shows are awesome in their own way, but Mr. Show was the only one that made me laugh until I hurt. Especially season 3.
Corey_Lazarus Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 I mark for Mr. Show. I need to pick up the DVDs.
UZI Suicide Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 Arrested Development. I'd guess more than half the people who profess their "love" for that show don't even watch it, hence the shitty ratings it always gets.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 I love Mr Show. I voted Larry Sanders anyway.
Guest *KNK* Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 I'll vote for Family Guy because it's never really been funny and it was a flop until the internet threw a fit and bought a crapload of the dvd's forcing fox to bring it back. It fits the bill for the elitist darling comedy perfectly. AD is actually funny, justifing it's praise. I haven't seen Larry Sanders since it's original run, Is it out on DVD? I need to get that if it is. Although I don't know if the show still holds up today but I'd imagine it does.
Guest Joshua A. Norton Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 Arrested Development. I'd guess more than half the people who profess their "love" for that show don't even watch it, hence the shitty ratings it always gets. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Or they don't have Nielsen boxes. Idiot.
nl5xsk1 Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 And I think that 24 should have been on the list. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 24 is hardly comedy. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Reading and comprehension aren't my strong points, I guess. Until you pointed out that it's not a comedy, I hadn't even noticed that comedies were the theme.
Guest Showstoppa Icon Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 If you consider Sports Night a comedy itd deffinately be #1 on my list. If not Id deffinately have to go with CYe
The Czech Republic Posted October 22, 2005 Author Report Posted October 22, 2005 I haven't seen Larry Sanders since it's original run, Is it out on DVD? I need to get that if it is. I have season 1. "What's with all this Ice Cube and Ice-T? I can't keep all these rappers straight. ....hey, Hank. If you were a rapper, what would your name be?" "Well....I'd have to say it'd be Hank The Rapper." "It's a salty dog. Drink it, you fucking pussy." No excuse for Garry Shandling not making an AD cameo. Unless he's dying of cancer, or hates Jeffrey Tambor in real life. Those would be. But other than that, none.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted October 23, 2005 Report Posted October 23, 2005 Other- LOST <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Lost really isn't a comedy either. Im gonna go with Curb your Enthusiasm. Id say its equal to Arrested Development except for the fact that its on HBO. I've not met anyone in real life that watches the show, but then again I dont think anyone I know gets HBO either..
ZGangsta Posted October 23, 2005 Report Posted October 23, 2005 Other- LOST <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Riiiiiiiiiiight. It just won an Emmy for best DRAMA, and is one of the highest rated and most mainstream shows on TV. Don't really think it fits here.
