OAO Family Guy/American Dad 11/20

Recommended Posts

Meh episode with an awful third act. A lot of the flashbacks fell flat (the Jesus one in particular, and the Jew joke was lifted right from America: The Book), and the Chris/Creepy Old Man storyline failed to deliver a SINGLE good joke, and a horrendous song that is probably the worst thing Family Guy's ever done.

"Why are you dressed like Rerun?" was great, as was Peanut Butter Jelly Time and a few things in-between.

This is the only Family Guy since its return that I immediately deleted from my TiVo instead of eventually watching it for a second time.

Decent Family Guy tonight, there was something magical about watching Stewie and Peter bond by abusing Lois.

Family Guy was decent. While I loved the part with Peter & Stewie bonding/laughing, I hated anything involving Chris & the Old Man, especially the fantasy part toward the end. I never liked the Peanut Butter Jelly thing back then, and I still hate it today.

I didn't understand what PBJT was so I just laughed at the idea of a talking dog singing in a banana costume.

I thought the episode was great outside of the terrible song that Herbert sang. Doc Brown and the racist crows were big laughs for me.

American Dad was ok. I didn't initally like the show at first, then I came around to thinking it was decent. I think I set the bar too high when the episode where PAtrick Stewart's character was dating Hayley aired because after that I thought AD was becoming better than Family Guy. It hasn't lived up to that episode since.

I loved the Back To The Future joke.

"Something's gotta be done about your kids! Your daughter marries a black guy!"

I'm not racist, but hearing that coming out of The Doc was fucking hilarious!

The Soundwave bit got a good chuckle out of me too.

You bunch of ungrateful fucks.

That song was from "Little Shop of Horrors" and it was a perfect (creepy) parody of it.

Fuck you all.

Family Guy was very hit or miss, especially in comparison with the previous two

AD was good as usual

PBJT is a parody from LSOH?

Feel free to heap shame upon me, but I have both never seen LSOH, nor had I heard of PBJT before last night.

Somehow though my g/f has heard of (and loved) PBJT and during the following commercial she showed me the website

Oh, that. When the old man started singing I just went to do something else until it was over.

With the exception of the first ep he was in (the southern episode), I've never found the old guy to be amusing at all

What is the story with that BPJT thing? I know its on some website and has been for years (I remember a friend sending me the link years ago) but other than that, not quite getting the point of parodying it on the show.

It sure was funny though....

Stewie also always hates Lois, and sometimes Peter, and Lisa often times hates Homer as well.

It's just the similarity of the dynamics between the three shows, I guess. Brainiac child can't stand oafish moronic parental figure.

I wouldn't have known the musical number was from LSOH if my girlfriend hadn't told me. Even then, it was still creepy.

Why is no one talking about the Michael Jackson bit? The visual of a 3D Jackson running off with a kid while everyone keeps watching the show was great.

That and Quagmire while Stewie's ears were covered.

I was wondering that myself. It was funny as hell but I thought it was just some random Seth non sequitor. Any background info is appreciated.

It doesn't really have much of a backstory.

The Dancing Banana is a popular emoticon. By late 2001, the banana was already being used on several forums as a standard emoticon. Most of these forums would replace the typed text "" with the graphical image. As the popularity of the banana grew, hundreds of variations of the image had been created for forums or other purposes. These new images typically would have to be either uploaded or linked to, instead of replacing text.

Most people recognize the image from a Flash animation of the banana dancing to the song "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" by the Buckwheat Boys. This animation, "Banana", was created in early 2002 by Ryan Etrata. Etrata has since created other similar animations featuring the banana and/or other dancing foods. His second version of "Banana" is the most famous and has been placed on many websites, sometimes under the heading of "Peanut Butter Jelly Time". Etrata also credits Kevin Flynn as the inspiration of the animations.

That wasn't really a parody, so much as it was "Hey! Remember this dancing banana? Yeah, it sure was funny, wasn't it?", much like half the show these days.

Sorry for upping this, but i've got a question for the Family Guy heads.

I am looking to pick up each season on DVD as an X-Mas gift for a friend. Can somebody explain this to me?

Vol 1 = Season 1

Vol 2 = Season 2 & 3

Vol 3 = Season 4

And this is Season 5 that is currently being shown on TV, right?

Actually, this is still season four and Volume 3 will include the first 10 episodes from last year's TV season and the first three from this TV season.

Very confusing.
