What was the biggest crowd pop EVER?

Recommended Posts

What about when HBK took control of the Triple Threat at Backlash '04 in Montreal and the crowd went nuclear. I think they wanted to kill him, especially when he used the Sharpshooter on Benoit

The biggest pop I've ever experienced in person was at a house show last year. Batista and HHH were doing their practice match for Wrestlemania, and it was about a week or so after the face turn. For a crowd of 2 or 3 thousand it sounded like there were 20 thousand in the building when Batista made his entrace.

The biggest pops I have seen on tv are:

Stone Cold's run-in during Rock vs Foley to help Foley win the Championship

Undertaker's return at Judgement Day 2000

HHH's return at Madison Square Garden in January 2002

Hogan doing ANYTHING during his match with the Rock at Wrestlemania 18. Hogan could do no wrong in the match, and when he Hulked-up, the place went insane.

I haven't seen Canadian Stampede in years, so I will have to go back and watch it again to see Bret's pop.

Then there is the holocaust of crowd heat that was Lesnar vs Goldberg at Wrestlemania 20.

has HBK ever been favored in Canada since the Bret fiasco?

No.

Yes, he was. At No Way Out 2003(?) after the Jericho vs Hardy match, Shawn came out and initially they booed him, but after he confronted Jericho the crowd popped for him. It was weird.

I don't remember that, will have to watch that match again.

I've only been to a handful of events live. Seattle has a general paucity regarding wrestling.

I went to WMIX. HUGE crowd. set a record for Safeco, natch.

The BEST heat was Michaels Jericho. Great heat throughout, and the event everyone was standing up for. People were rooting for both men, and the crowd popped huge for the handshake. The only boos were for Jericho when he kicked Michaels in the nuts.

Crowd was also jacked for Rock/Austin, but slowly died, especially at the end. I've never seen the commentary for this match, but live, it seemed like a straight-up squash.

The most heat was on Hogan/McMahon. People were losing their minds for that match.

By far the best was an ECW television taping I went to when I was in the 3rd row. I drove so far to see that fucking show, and while the wrestling wasn't great, it was an incredible experience. Sabu almost took my head off.

EDIT: My only regret is I've never seen a Sandman entrance live. He pretty much sucks, but so does Hogan. Sandman's entrance live must be a fucking experience. Best entrance in the history of wrestling, between the hero worship, beer and song.

The heat was so incredible in that little exhibition center, it blew away WMIX. Tommy Dreamer and RVD made the place EXPLODE. For people who hate on ECW: that's what it was all about, the crowd participation, the hero worship of RVD (who fought Spike and One Man Gang), it was all incredible. And spike, as usual, gave his body for the match. I was with two friends at WMIX. I was alone at the ECW show. The ECW show took it hands down. It was just a wonderful experience.

No shit. If you go back and watch the match, the crowd even pops huge for the fuckin' BACK-RAKE. So much that Hogan acknowledges it and does it again to the same pop. A back-rake.

I have a couple.

The Sandman making his return to ECW. The lights went out and when Enter Sandman started playing the place lost their minds. If you listen to the whole crowd all of them are singing the lyrics while he drinks about 8 beers on the way to the ring.

I am a huge Undertaker mark so. When he came back at WMXX with the "Oh Yes!" from Paul Barrer. Listen right after the first GONG. The place goes batshit. Also the crowd popped when he came back at Judgement Day too.

Hulk Hogan at Skydome is hard to compete with though. The crowd was just so pro Hogan. When he Hulked Up and hit the Leg Drop I thought, and the entire arena thought that the match was over. Hogan slamming Andre is a huge pop too. That should just be default though. It changed the industry.

Also on Raw when Batista gave the thumbs up and then turned it to thumbs down the place went bananas. There is a girl in the front row that just loses her mind. It was the demise of Evolution and the beginning of Big Dave super push. The fans were pleased to see HHH go through that table.

A lot of good ones I wouldn't have thought of, the Sandman's return in particular.

I'd forgotten how awesome that was. And yes, it is absolutely surreal live.

Someone touched on how big the crowd interatcion was in ECW, and thats absolutely right. Three of my buddies and I saw a show in September 2000. Five and a half years ago, for christ sakes, and we still mark over RVD pointing at us.

Backlash '04 was in Edmonton. Being there live, you almost went deaf when Benoit's music hit. The "You screwed Bret" chants towards Michaels were on level with any from Montreal though. It may not have been the biggest crowd pop ever, but it certainly warrants merit.

A side note on Sandman's entrance: it only worked right at ECW shows. I was present for that entrance at least a couple dozen times at TNA, and half the crowd couldn't have cared less.

The Bret Hart teaser from a Raw in 2005, fans were going absolutely crazy when his music hit.

During Shawn's promo in Montreal? I seriously thought he was coming out for about 10 seconds, since the rumor was that he would be at SummerSlam. Oh well.

Yeah, I think so, can't remember for sure, that night is a distant memory now. All I know is that HBK was talking shit, Bret's music plays, crowd goes ape-shit, then HBK is like "gotcha bitch".

Hogan over the Iron Sheik at MSG for the belt, Magnum TA coming back to the Crockett Cup after his car wreck. Heel heat, nothing will beat Memphis in the 80s, Austin Idol and Tommy Rich cheat and Lawler loses his hair in a cage match, near riot and had people trying to climb the cage while the haircut was given. Idol, Rich and Heyman-Paul Dangerly then I think-had to run, and run fast to the back from the ring.

Charlotte in early 1986 for a Crockett house show when The Rock and Roll Express came out for a match against The Midnight Express. It was so ungodly loud and sustained. It blows away just about every other nomination in this thread.

Not sure the date of this but when Paul Heyman told the camera man to dim the lights and than when they came back on we saw Sabu back into the ECW arena; well the crowd just went nuts.

One of my all-time favorite pops is from Backlash 2000. The whole ending sequence when the glass hits and Austin returns to save Rock during the title match leading up to Rock finally ending HHH's title reign with the entire arena counting along the final 1-2-3 as the whole arena explodes and the camera focuses in on a sign saying "game over" back when that wasnt played out. Even Ross is very good here on commentary calling the entire thing. Just a temendous moment and pop in my opinion.
