Hot Fuzz was weird...The first hour or so was boring. I nearly gave up on the movie, but I stuck with it.

 

The final thirty or so is filled with SO MANY cliches and imagery from action movies. It was fantastic.

 

That said...I don't know if the final thirty makes up for the pretty boring first hour.

Not counting documentaries, I would seriously probably rant Enchanted at number 4 or 5 for me this year. Behind No Country For Old Men, There Will Be Blood (I'm undecided which of those last two was better), Halloween and possibly Harry Potter.

Although I found Hot Fuzz funny, it's no where near as good as Shaun of the Dead.

 

Saying that, I haven't watched Hot Fuzz since the first day it was on at the cinema, I do need to watch it again.

Terry Crews might just be my favourite actor at the moment. I had his rendition of "A thousand miles" by Vanessa Carlton in my head all day today, and thus a big shit eating grin on my face to go along with it. Seriously, can anyone in Hollywood pop it and lock it like Crews? Dude tends to steal every movie he is in. Cheeseburger Eddie, Prez. Camacho.

It's weird, but I've found I never watch anything on tv but reality(ish) shows anymore. I used to hate them. It's not the strike either, cause it's been that way for a while. I still like regular shows, but I pretty much exclusively watch them on dvd.

 

Celebrity Rehab is the best thing going. I've listened to Loveline through four different cohosts, so Dr. Drew is part of why I like it.

 

I only wish it were A-list celebs.

Hot Fuzz was really good, and the "This shit just got real" made me laugh hysterically, but they were doing something that South Park perfected, so it was still a bit of a disappointment.

 

I watched Night at the Museum the other day. Ranks up there with National Treasure in regards to being a movie being way more enjoyable than one would expect.

I went to the movies the other day (The Orphanage, the longest hour and forty-five minute movie I've ever seen). They played the Growing Pains theme in the theatre before the movie, but I was the only one to sing along.

I'm not the biggest Will Smith fan but this one looks pretty damn funny. Plus it's got Jason Bateman in a supporting role.

 

Even if it isn't that good, It'll probably kick Superhero!'s ass in terms of superhero spoof movies.

Well, it isn't in the same league as NCFOM, but ok, I'll try.

 

First, know that I totally love the genre of movies it's spoofing. Goofy princess, dumbass prince, love story that makes zero sense, I eat it up every time. Enchanted is an amazing parody, as they hit every note of those kinds of movies, make fun of them all, while still basically telling the same story, and not seeming hokey at all. It's incredibly balanced.

The acting was stellar. Amy Adams in particular was just great. She brings an integrity to her role that really makes you believe these guys are vying for her affection. I mean, pretty much anybody would fall in love with her, she's that cute. Susan Sarandon also does great as the wicked queen, and the CGI effects during their final battle are top notch.

 

And that's basically why I love it... it succeeds brilliantly at what it's trying to do. Ok, it might not convert people who don't like those kind of movies in the first place, but if you do, it's pretty much perfect. There's not a missed step in the whole thing, save for some ill conceived shit and piss jokes (one each), but I can overlook that.

I bought and watched Death Proof yesterday. Strangly, I enjoyed it more second time round and even weirder, was that I didn't get annoyed by Quentin's on screen apperance.

Michael Mann was onboard to direct "Tonight, He Comes" (original title of Hancock), back when it was a more serious movie, it had been making the rounds as one of the better unfilmed screenplays in Hollywood. I don't really know any creative specifics though except that it was heavily rewritten afterwards to suit Will Smith.

Have any of the film buffs on here (Ravenbomb?) come across or seen, well, "Come and See"?

 

I saw it on the advice of a friend after he was very right about "The Tin Drum". It was brutal to watch at times, but it is undeniably brilliant. I think I'll listen to him about Tarkovsky too.

 

Oh, and "The Conversation" was #1 and the best as everyone had said. I think I'll seek out "Wages of Fear" (I enjoyed Sorcerer) or "Stalker" next as part of my film education process.

So... a third Ace Ventura movie is coming out later this year, with no Jim Carrey and the fat kid from License To Wed starring as Ace Ventura Jr. Mark my words, this one will be even worse than Dumb and Dumberer, Evan Almighty and Son of The Mask. Why does Hollywood keep on insisting on doing sequels to Jim Carrey movies without Jim Carrey? And it's not like anybody was clamoring to see sequels to these movies in the first place.

I don't think either of The Ace Venturas were great shakes or Bruce Almighty or The Mask for that matter. The fact they made/are making sequels to all of them without what made them so appealing to the masses is extremely disheartening.

 

 

I do like me some Dumb and Dumber though. That's the one Carrey comedy I can say I enjoy to this day.

What's even worse about The Mask (which I think has some decent elements) is that the comic it's based on is totally good. It's really dark and violent.

I just happened to notice that Eagle vs. Shark is out on DVD in the US.

 

If you have a netflix queue or what have you, add it to your list. You will not be disappointed. I loved this film, but hardly anyone got the chance to see it.
