devo 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 I like that deal quite a bit, but it'd be nice to see confirmation somewhere. Looks like I'll be refreshing ESPN's MLB Wire page until I go to bed.

Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 Speculation has been running rampant about Carlos Lee. Recent rumor I was hearing yesterday is that a trade with the Tigers might be in the works for Umberto Sanchez (pretty highly thought of pitching prospect, who is basically MLB-ready from what I understand). Of course, with the Brewers finally starting to string together some wins again, that might make trading El Caballo even hearder.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 no. dont trade humberto. he's a zumaya-like freak.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 I'm not seeing anything about that trade. Thus the danger in taking things said on Gamenight at face value. NOTE: Since I announced the trade on here last night after listening to ESPN Radio, I thought I should fill you in with what was said this morning via the Mets. The trade came from a team source who had a direct link to someone at ESPN Radio. It was not official, and the announcement was not cleared trough ESPN television. It appears it was something discussed this year, but never finalized. I apologize for jumping the gun, but it seemed like a credible source.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 I saw Humberto Sanchez pitch a couple weeks ago. Good stuff, but still somewhat raw. He needs more seasoning.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 Well, now apparently the Brewers may be keeping Lee 'til the end of the season, and possibly even close to re-signing him, but we'll see.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 The Dodgers finally dumped Odalis Perez. I'd say being dealt to the Royals is worse than being "treated like trash" by the Dodgers.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 The LA Dodgers acquired RHP Elmer Dessens from the Kansas City Royals for Odalis Perez, Blake Johnson, Julio Pimental AND cash. The Royals got THREE pitchers for a reliever with a 4.50 ERA. If I'm the Phillies, there's no way I don't trade Jon Lieber and Cory Lidle in this market.
Guest Report post Posted July 25, 2006 I knew he was going into exile. Johnson plays in Vero Beach and I don't know anything about Pimental, so it's no big deal. When I read this, I let out the biggest laugh imaginable. MUWAHAHAHA.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 Value for their teams aside, if you're Odalis Perez, wouldn't you rather pitch regularly for a bad team than sit in the doghouse of a good team. We're not talking about regular vs. role player here. I think Perez is a better pitcher than he's shown, and he'll rebound.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 Is there a more annoying subpolt in baseball right now than the A-Rod saga? I leave for lunch and have Dan Patrick going on and on about A-Rod on ESPN Radio the whole way home. Then I get to my house and turn on ESPNews to see them discussing the possibility of A-Rod being dealt. Then I flip to ESPN just in time to catch a special Outside the Lines on his strugges in New York and if the Yankees would have been better off keeping Soriano. Give me a fucking break. Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 Now they include what A-Rod did the night before in their updates (WFAN's 20/20, ESPN Radio's Sportscenter). A-Rod commented about this, how they're all on his dick.

Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 If A-Rod committed suicide in the next week, would anyone be surprised? He really does seem to be unraveling from the negative criticism he has gotten. I'm not exactly sure why Yankees fans continue to boo him when it is obviously causing mental lapses in his game. I guess it's the in thing to do or something, but I sure can't figure it out. Interesting subplot mentioned by Michael Kay (sp?) and Joe Morgan in separate interviews I heard today. They've speculated that part of the reason Derek Jeter hasn't come to his defense is that he is still bitter about A-Rod saying he was a better player years ago before he joined the Yanks. Talk about holding a grudge.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 What's really irksome about the A-Rod situation is that there's no good ending to it. If he's traded, all anyone will evey say is that he could not handle the "NYC pressure." If he stays, the media will just go on saying he's unclutch no matter what happens in the games. Hell, A-Rod one a game with a walkoff home run with the Yankees trailing in extra innings! And even if A-Rod wins the Yankees a championship, the fans that boo him don't deserve it. I'd almost like to see A-Rod field easy ground balls and chuck them into the stands as a hardy "fuck you" to the Yankee Stadium faithful. Maybe he can hit some beat writers with them. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 Why did ESPN act like Soriano to the White Sox was a done deal?
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 Why did ESPN act like Soriano to the White Sox was a done deal? Tim Kurkjian reported it as "extremely close" and the network ran with it. The network's coverage of the trade deadline this year really emphasizes how much they are missing Peter Gammons. He seemed to be the only "Insider" that actually had the respect to receive inside information and the courtesy to present it accurately. As for the Soriano front, it might just be smoke and mirrors to drive up the price for the Tigers. The Sox won't include McCarthy in any deal, supposedly (which is smart, IMO) and the Nationals would be fools to accept a package built around Scott Podsednik (which is the new rumor). Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 Bobby Abreu is being consistently mentioned in trade rumors, but none of the "experts" really feel he can be moved. Reason #1 is usually his large conract, but the second thing that is always mentioned are his declining numbers. Well, I did little research this afternoon and found that his numbers aren't really declining at all. His "loss of power" is overstated, seeing that only twice in his career has he hit 30 homers. His career numbers suggest he has 20 homer power, which is just a couple more than he will likely hit this year. Everything else, from his defense to avg, obp, steals, RBI, etc. seem to be in line with career numbers. So my question, why do people consider him to be in decline, and would you want him on your team?
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2006 Not an actual rumor, but does anyone think the Astros are at least entertaining the idea of trading Roger Clemens? They are basically out of the playoff race at this point and Clemens is costing them big time dollars. He considered pitching for the Yankees and Red Sox this past offseason. Would they move him to one of those teams for a prospect or two out of respect for Roger?
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2006 The Yankees released Kelly Stinnett, and traded for backup catcher Sal Fasano from the Phillies. They gave up single A 2B Hector Made. Maybe Al can tell me something good about Fasano. On the surface his numbers are almost identical to those of Stinett.

vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2006 Not an actual rumor, but does anyone think the Astros are at least entertaining the idea of trading Roger Clemens? They are basically out of the playoff race at this point and Clemens is costing them big time dollars. He considered pitching for the Yankees and Red Sox this past offseason. Would they move him to one of those teams for a prospect or two out of respect for Roger? No. The Astros aren't "out of the playoff race" just yet. They're six back with 8 games to go against WC leading Cincinnati. Although the situation looks grim, there's still time for the Astros to either pick up a bat or not pick up a bat and go on a run regardless. Clemens could have signed with either the Yankees or the Red Sox, but didn't because he wants to pitch in Houston. He wants to win a World Championship in Houston. If Clemens pitches in the postseason this year, it will be in Houston.
