Tigers/Twins has been a tremendous game so far. Brandon Inge hit a two run homer in the seventh to put the Tigers ahead, and Justin Morneau followed with a two run shot of his own the next inning. Morneau is now the first Twin to hit 30 home runs since 1987.

Carlos Zambrano's been ass his last two starts. Even with some of things beyond his control that led to runs (new second baseman, passed ball, blown call, etc.), it's not encouraging he's given up 12 runs over his last two starts.

And I'm only now noticing the Cubs don't have a hit through five. *knocks on wood*

After he and Jeter both got gift ball calls on pitches directly on the outside corner.

Yes on the outside corner of the right handed hitter's batter's box. Well for Jeter it'd be the left.

zumaya blows it. not his fault. the tigers need to do something about jamie walker. as a left handed specialist, he ain't exactly gettin the job done. the twins slowly eat up more ground. its getting a bit scarier.

If the Tigers blow a nine-game lead with less than two months to play, then perhaps they aren't worthy of a postseason appearance.

P.S. Brewers no-hitter gone and in a matter of minutes, it's 6-3.

Is there a Padres fan here? Can I ask: What's your honest evaluation of how the team is doing? I haven't really paid any attention to them in the past month.

I'm thinking they don't win the West. Being a Phillies fan, I need them to slump out of the WC chase, along with the Reds, who've been struggling, as well. And need super-hot Dodgers to win West.

3 words...WALKOFF DAVID ROSS. Cornolls Arroyo gets win 10 tomorrow I hope.

God forbid ESPN actually cover a tight divisional series though...

Not a fan, but they are a local team. They probably will either win the division in the low 80s or not make the playoffs at all.

"Human Headcase-Brad Lidge"? Man, that's terrible...but accurate.

Fun game tonite. 14-1 'Stros. It's always fun to have a blowout once in a while. 6 Astro homeruns. Luke Scott has a damn pretty swing. I just wish all the other teams ahead of the Astros in the WC race would start losing so the Astros going on a roll would mean something. Oh well, it looks like the Dodgers are going to win the West and I'm not too concerned about the Padres...and the Reds CAN'T be for real, right?

Don't look at me, I thought the Reds' pitching was going to fall apart in June.

Lidge just aggravates me. He'll have an outing like last night (1 IP, 3 K, 10 pitches) and you think he's out of his whatever is going on, then he'll give up 3 runs in 2/3rds of an inning in his next outing. He just can't settle down into his 2004 form.

And yeah, Luke Scott has a real nice swing. That homer he hit tonight was beautiful. Sitting dead red and he got it right over the inside of the plate.

That's the thing I don't get about Lidge. I mean, he has had some really good outings in between all the crappy ones. One thing I noticed about last nite is that he had a good tempo going. He was working fast and it didn't look like he was thinking too much. He gets into trouble when he starts overthrowing and thinking too much. That's why I have hope that he'll turn things around yet, but I've said that about 15 times already this season. And if he ultimately does flop, Nieve's looking stellar.

Man, all sorts of great games going on tonight. Royals score two in the bottom of the ninth to snatch the victory from Boston, the scoring capped off by an RBI single from Mike Sweeney of all people. To say Papelbon wasn't on tonight would be an understatement.

Nice job by Papelbum and the Sawx. I think they're getting pretty close to being d-o-n-e despite not being that far out of the postseason mix. When you might get swept by the fuckin' Royals it's time to panic.

The Reds are not for real. The starting pitching is hanging on by a thread, and their bullpen acquisitions were a little overrated.

Texas have to be the kings of losing the first 2 or 3 games of a series and then smashing the shit out of the other team in the final game, they do it again with a 14-0 win to at least salvage something vs the A's.

Papelbum?

I'd hardly consider Papelbon to be the problem with the Red Sox right now. Especially when you consider that his ERA is still under 1 (which it has been all season). I realize that you're not that "big" into numbers, so I'll break it down for you.

Yanks are 3 (three) games up on the Red Sox...there are still 9 (that's nine) games between the two teams head to head.

Now, like I said, you're not big into numbers, but try to follow me here:

Yankees are 3 games up over Boston.

When they play head to head, that means that which ever team wins gains a game on the team that loses.

There are 9 games remaining in head to head competition between the two teams.

Hopefully you managed to get that...

With so many teams in the NL West and the NL Wildcard so close, could somebody please explain in 200 words or less the convoluted process that would occur at the end of the season if say...the 'Stros, Reds, and Padres tied for the Wildcard lead or better yet if the 'Stros, Reds, Padres, Dodgers, and D'Backs tied for the WC lead/NL West lead?
