Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2006 Alright people before I make this list, just to let you know THIS IS MY OPINION, and that no one's list is not going to be the same. For me I find it impossible to put a list in order, because my opinion changes almost weekly when putting it in order. I judge this list by quality of music and CD's, longtivity, impact on hip hop, and how good were each of the members. So here is my list, in no order... Wu Tang Clan Onyx De La Soul Outkast Tha Dogg Pound Public Enemy Geto Boys N.W.A Bone Thugs and Harmony Boogie Down Productions Those who I left out: Naughty By Nature, EPMD, LOX, A Tribe Called Quest, Do Or Die, Mobb Deep, Gangstarr. Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2006 The members of Onyx ability to crossover into acting is the only positive thing I can say about the group can't say that I like their music outside of 2 singles. Onyx have 1 classic album(Baccdafuccup) and 2 near classic albums(All We Got Iz Us and Shut Em Down), they are notorious help making that whole screamin grimey style which is used by rappers today. Lyrically they are awesome to, espically Sticky. Fredro can spit some fire aswell, but he gets overshadow by Sticky too much. Sonsee is the weakest member but even then he's still decent. But lyrically they are versitile and can rap about anything.

Why do you mention Bone Thugs twice?? Read what I said before I list my top 10 groups. But since you can't I'm going to be a dick. Run DMC SUCKED. Lyrically Onyx shits all over them, it's not even funny. Run DMC's lyric's are trash and simply. Never was a big fan of the Beasties or ATCQ(although "Get It Together" which has both groups is one of my favorite songs ever). ACTQ would make my Top 15 list. The only reason why I check for The Roots is because of Black Thought's lyrics. Overall Onyx's CD's >>>> Mobb Deep's CD's.

Group or not, they put out better rap albums than anyone else so whatever list with groups should have them top it. If you were to list the "Top 10 Solo Rappers", no doubt that Andre 3000 would make my list, but not Big Boi. "Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik" and "ATLiens" were classic CD's without a doubt, and "Aquemini" were near classics, but after that they fell off IMO, and so did there Hip Hop sound(Actually that was after "Stankonia", but "Stankonia wasn't as good as their 1st three CD's, it was too much mainstream for me). Too me, while they are a Top 5 group, I just can't place them above Wu-Tang, Public Enemy, and BDP.

I despise when people write off certain hip-hop as being too mainstream. Either its good, or it isn't, and then either its underground or its mainstream. The amount of people listening to a group shouldn't dictate how you feel about it. Anyway, while Andre has definitely lost his taste for hop-hop, Big Boi certainly hasn't. Speakerboxxx has some great hip-hop on it. Don't throw Big Boi out with Andre's weird ass bath water.
Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted August 15, 2006 Where the FUCK is Juice Crew on your list? Big Daddy Kane and Kool G. Rap by themselves handily OWN your entire list. Also what about Eric B. and Rakim?

Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted August 15, 2006 I kept it short because I was about to leave for work, but now we are on a rain delay so I have time to divuldge in this fun fun topic. I have never heard Onyx really (is that the SLAM DUHDUHDUH LET THE BOYS BE BOYS? dudes?) can you recommend some songs?? Also I should point out that, lyrically, The Pharcyde smokes Run DMC like a 5 dollar blunt. Run still spits like its 1977 and you can get away with spitting MOTHERFUCKING NURSERY RHYMES. Cause thats what he is doing, spitting nursery rhymes. They can sell all they want to, but they are like the Hogan of rap, everyone shouts themout to kiss their ass considering Run's brother is Russell, but no one respects their shit. Who tries to rap like RUN DMC?? Blah anyway, my list: 1. Juice Crew (Big Daddy Kane, Kool G. Rap, Biz Markee among others have put out plenty of classics...Rap and Kane are the two most underrated rappers in the history of rap. THEY changed rap. Why do I say this? Look how many rappers have blatantly stolen the rhyme schemes of those two...blah thats a whole nother subject) 2. Wu Tang Clan (I'll never forget the first time I heard C.R.E.A.M...I was a YOUNG motherfucker. Funny story, me and a group of my friends in 7th grade all pretended we were members of the Wu Tang clan. I was RZA...we drew the little logos on our binders and stuff. So gay...) 3. Children of the Corn (Alright alright, these dudes never put out anything as a group really persay, but this was a group that contained 3 names in hip hop that will ultimately never be forgotten. Killa Cam'ron, Ma$e, and BIG L motherfuckers. Is Big L slow? Hell no...I fuck them bitches in the ride but I ain't got no hotel tho...Cam'ron could spit way better back then. Ma$e was Ma$e. He went on to bigger things. Same with Cam. Big L went on to get shot over a debt his brother owed.) 4. The Lox (I know they shouldn't be this high. Let me explain. I was gonna put DPG here, but in my right mind I couldn't do it. I remember the freestyles that were coming out of the west coast and DPG crew, and Daz and Korrupt brough the goods and all...but that kid Styles, Sheek and Jada were spitting ACID back then. Sheek and Jada will be remembered long after DPG are forgotten, if for anything for the verse on "Its All About the Benjamins..." still Money, Power, Respect is a classic.) 5. DPG (see above) 6. Bone Thugz and Harmony (This group had such a huge impact on me as a youngster. I swear people around here still ask me to speed rap Bone songs. The Art of War was great, E. 1999 Eternal is classic, Creepin' On Ah Come Up was decent enough. I don't listen to them much now, outside of occasionally listening to a few Krayzie Bone songs like Dummy Man and Ya'll Don't Know Me but I could spit Family Tree and If I Could Teach Tha World word for word when I was in 9th grade ) 7. D-12 (I'm sorry if alot of you don't like D-12, but I know its stereotypical to be a white kid and be an Em fanboy, but I honestly always said that Proof had a tremendous flow. How Come is a song I listen to now that reminds me so much of my homey who I haven't saw in forever cause he went his route (pro wrestling) and I went mine (work)...) 8. Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz (UPTOWN BABY UPTOWN BABY, WE GETS DOWN BABY, Afford the crown baby.) 9. N.W.A. (I only listened to N.W.A. songs to hear Eazy E and Ice Cube spit. Sue me.) 10. OutKast (I don't really care much for some of the newer shit, but I still bump Player's Ball at least once a week.) My list probably sucked to no end, I have very strange tastes in music compared to most people. I'm also always open to discover new (old) shit I missed when I was younger for whatever reason, so any recommendations would be great. Honorable mention: They aren't a group but Warren G and Nate Dogg for REGULATEEEEEE! My first rap song, I feel in love with hip hop. I was like 7 or 8. I traded a John Stockton and a Carl Malone card for the cassette single of the CD. Ahh memories. Also Eric B. and Rakim get an honorable mention. If someone made a real list they should be at the top because everyone seems to think so and everyone shows Rakim love. I don't care too much for them, probably for the same reason I don't like watching Kawada/Misawa matches. I know what i'm seeing/hearing is good stuff, I understand why its good stuff, but I can't help but feel overwhelming hate for it because of the praise it receives. I know thats retarded, but hey what more can I say?

I didn't list the Juice Crew because they never released an album together. Big Daddy Kane, Masta Ace, and Kool G. Rap are among my favorite solo rappers of all time. I also left out Camp Lo.
