Boogeyman released

Recommended Posts

I actually think this sucks. He could have been over huge in ECW, just like he was in OVW.

And yes, I know I'm one of the only guys here who thinks that.

God, where is the logic? He gets injured in March/April, they keep him around, promote his return, and then drop him. I understand not letting him go when he got injured, because it happened to Test, but to release him when he's back to active status is crazy.

Oh well, at least he's undefeated at Wrestlemania

So I guess him beating JBL at the Royal Rumble, and Booker T at WM was useless.

He didn't just beat them, he totally squashed them. JBL and Booker looked like jobbers against him.

Can't say I'm disappointed. He was entertaining to watch in backstage skits due to just how rediculous the gimmick was, but that's about it. The scene with him scaring Teddy Long, Palmer Cannon, and all the midgets was awesome.

So does anyone have the story why he's been released or is it to early to ask?

One the funniest things on RAW was when John Cena opened the closet and he was inside.

This guy squashed a former World Champion and the current one. Some promotion could possibly use that.

He should go to TNA and be called the Boogie Man, and have "Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant be his manager. Let him sorta keep the gimmick he has, only slightly altered, just like the name. Just less boogey, and more boogie.

$$$

Save for a cheap laugh here and there, he was pretty worthless. I'm glad he's gone.

His feuds with JBL and Booker were pointless, but in WWE-land jobs occuring more than 2 weeks ago don't matter, unless explicitly stated on air.

This does not make sense to me. Why build him up in vignettes and then release him? Would not be surprised if there is more to the story, maybe he is being used as a wellness policy example?

I doubt he was making much money, why not keep him in the low - mid card and squash people and get the crowd warmed up? I bet he would move a decent amount of merchandise too.

Interesting so who is the next to go? WWE already released the pirate, the midgets, and now Boogeyman...Great Khali and Mark Henry still around? I think Johnny Nitro, Spirit Squad, Highlanders, Val Venis should fear for job security.

Burchill was released?

Nope, he is in OVW, recovering from surgey.

I don't get why Johnny Nitro would fear for his job security aswell, considering the WWE is building him up to be a future main eventer.

Boogieman was actually fun in backstage segments, but he was terrible in the ring. Of course that never stopped the wwe before, so as has been mentioned, there is likely more to the story. I'm betting he got hurt again, training for his return and the wwe said enough is enough.

Marty Wright took a wrestlecrap gimmick and made the most of it. Given he was forty years old when he debuted in the wwe, he had a pretty hot run while it lasted. I think the storyline lost something when he went from some nutter believing his gimmick(which I loved) to actually having special powers to make it rain worms and such.

He's probably kicking himself that he had his teeth voluntarily removed for this gimmick.

Huh? The story I had was his teeth were knocked out during training the E convinced him not to get them fixed. Course, most people thought it was a dumb thing for him to do. But, I know still sounds dumb, at least the E could pay for him to get them fixed seeing how he did all that for them. But, whatever.

But, yeah he was good for a few laughs and all but, it's no big loss.

From PWInsider:

WWE posted the following today on their website: "WWE has come to terms on the release of Boogeyman (Marty Wright) as of today 9/20/06. We wish Marty the best in all future endeavors."

Wright had been out rehabbing leg injuries and was close to being ready to return to action when he was released. Management hadn't been happy with his commitment to return to action with the feeling being that he was doing the bare minimum to get back in shape. There were also issues with him not checking in with the doctors when he was supposed to. He was warned a few times and when he didn't change his behavior, he was let go.

Wright, originally an actor, came onto the WWE scene in October of 2004 when he was kicked out of the tryouts for Tough Enough IV for lying about his age. However, he was given a slot in OVW two months later, where the "Boogeyman" character was developed in the summer of 2005. He was put on the Smackdown brand live events, but suffered a knee injury and went back to OVW. It was during this time that he had his front teeth knocked out, which would become part of his look. He finally made his Smackdown TV debut in October of 2005 and feuded with JBL and Booker T. Shortly after Wrestlemania 22, where he defeated Booker T & Sharmell in a handicap match, Boogeyman was back on the injured list. A vignette was shown on Smackdown last month hyping his return, which obviously won't be taking place now.
