BorneAgain 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 From PWInsider: Dark Match: *Kendrick/London vs. The Gymini - The Gymini aren't the best wrestlers, but the crowd was hot for this match since it was the first of the evening. Kendrick & London won. 1 - Rey Mysterio & Matt Hardy vs. Chavo w/Vickie & Gregory Helms - Good opening match., as you'd expect from these 4.End came shortly after Mysterio hit a double 619 on Hardy & Chavo to get the win. 2 - Tatanka vs. Elijah Burke - Burke is not only a pretty good wrestler and can cut a promo (which he did before the match) but he is also much more interesting than Sylvester Terkey. Burke won with interference from Terkey in the first heel win of the night. Lord knows Tatanka just can't be beat on his own, it takes two men to do the job. Terkey beat down Tatanka following the match. *Backstage segment between Finlay, Booker, Sharmell & Regal. Booker demanded Finlay lay down for him tonight. Finlay said he won't, and asked Regal what he would do. Regal, looking flabbergasted, just walked off. Finlay reminded Booker that "...my name is Finlay, and I like to fight", before walking off leaving Booker and Sharmell mortified. 3 - King Booker vs. Finlay - If anyone wants to play the world's fastest drinking game, I think I invented it tonight. Every time Sharmell says "All Hail King Booker" take a shot. You WILL be intoxicated within 3 minutes flat. Good match. Crowd was really into Finlay with lots of Finlay chants, and then got bored out of nowhere and started a brief boring chant. The end came when Sharmell grabbed Finlay's leg, letting Booker nail him from behind, and also bringing out Little Bastard who chased Sharmell around the ring with a rat. This distracted Booker and the ref just long enough for Booker to be nailed in the head with the Shillelagh. Finlay pins the world champ for the win! 4 - Batista vs. Lashley - Batista easily, I mean easily, got the biggest pop of the night. Easily. This wasn't the, um, best idea for a match and I would advise WWE not to program these two in a feud anytime soon. Match ended in a no contest when Finlay ran out and attacked Batista. Booker then ran out and attacked Finlay. Then Lashley and Batista went at it. Then the referees & trainers got involved. Nothing could contain the mayhem until... *Teddy Long showed up and announced since these 4 wanted to go at it so bad he was changing the main-event of No Mercy to a Fatal Four-Way for the World Title. Lashley got angry and attacked a guy who looked like Johnny Ace. The lookalike (not sure if it was him) landed in a wet spot and the cameras focused on the big wet area on his rear as exited the ring. *Booker, Finlay & Lashley were all arguing with each other in Teddy Long's office when Batista came in and said "Hey Guys", causing them all to stop, "Can't we all just get along"? That got a big laugh out of the crowd. Batista then shook Long's hand and told him thank you. Then all 4 started arguing and Long interrupted and announced a main-event tonight of Lashley & Batista vs. King Booker & Finlay. No one looked happy about that. 5 - Sylvan vs. Jimmy Wang Yang - Yang is very over. After he made it to the ring they darkened the arena and played a backstage promo where he did his routine. This was actually one of the best matches of the night. Sylvan has really come a long way and he and Yang work really well together. Yang hit several innovative spots before losing to Sylvan, who grabbed the ropes to help pick up the victory. * A platform that took forever to set up was brought out....so that MVP could come out and cut a boring promo on it. That guy's a double threat so far: He's not interesting and he's not over. If he's a bad wrestler I guess that'll make him a triple threat. *The platform was taken away. *Kennedy cut an incredible promo about the Undertaker from a room with a black background. One of the best promos I've seen all year on any WWE program. It's not a short promo either, they gave Kennedy a chance to really talk and build it up. It ended with him saying all the fans and other wrestlers might fall for cheap parlor tricks, which is all an exploding microphone is, but one man, one man won't and this Sunday Undertaker will never forget the name Kennedy". This promo alone is worth watching Smackdown for. It really is that good, and I'm not even a big Kennedy fan. 6 - Ashley w/ London & Kendrick vs. Michelle McCool w/ Idol & Stevens - McCool, Idol & Stevens cut a backstage promo before the match. Let's just say it was no Trish vs. Mickie or Lita, and that ended when Idol & Stevens interfered, allowing McCool to roll up Ashley with a handful of tights. 7 - Batista & Bobby 'The Bore" Lashely vs. Finlay & King Booker - Thankfully we were spared Sharmell's introduction this time. A decent tag match that was made above average by the crowd. They were louder than any pyrotechnics when Lashley made a hot tag to Batista. That guy is popular in Wichita. I thought it was just me, but apparently it's not. Matche ended in a no-contest when Regal ran down and got involved. Chaos ensues. Little Bastard gets involved, almost gets mauled by Batista, but flees the ring, leaving a staredown between Batista and Lashley to close the show. *Overall, a hot crowd and a good show. slimm44 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Ha, they figured Lashley vs. Booker wouldn't be a big draw so they turned it into a fatal four way. Wonder if the king will be dethroned?
BorneAgain 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 I actually see Lashley, Finlay, and Batista looking real strong, but Booker pulling out the sneaky win leading to something big at Survivor Series.
Ginger Snaps 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Lashley v. Batista now is a bad idea. That could be a big match down the road.

RedJed 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 If this is Hayes influence on this show, I wont mind since having Batista, Lashley and Finley for that matter as tweeners would be interesting to play out for awhile. Each character is so stangnent right now that anything is better than nothing. Could be an interesting ppv main event leading to either Batista or Lashley going heel. uhftv 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 sounds like a good show. Except for the tag champs being in a dark match except to second Ashley. LAME But if they show it in that order then they shifted the Rey and CW matchup all the way in the beginning. I hope Hayes isnt big one of those writers that dont want the smaller guys on top. That would be a mistake since it's the last show before the ppv and they need to push the undercard more with the last minute main event change. And the anticipation to see if MVP sucks or not is huge. Does anyone know if he sucks?
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 I guess Vince couldn't stand African American vs. African American. Aside from the 20 odd times they've already run Booker vs. Lashley? Like, to death? Thank God they changed it too, it's not like their matches were all that special in the first place.

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 MVP is out of Deep South, so yeah I could safely surmise he sucks. What does it say when the best guy to come out of Deep South thus far as been Khali? Lushus, there's probably something to that "Rock is half Samoan so he doesn't count" thing. But moreso than the race factor Booker/Lashley is already played out in TV matches. They also might not feel Lashley can carry his end of a main event on PPV just yet.
LJSexay 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Actually, Miz is out of Deep South if I remember correctly. But still.. the track record for these developmental feds is rather... ridiculous...
luke-o 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Actually, Miz is out of Deep South if I remember correctly. And i dont particually rate him. I just find him annoying, doesnt anyone else think he has one of those faces you would like to punch?
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Knox is easily the best of the DSW workers so far. The man takes a wicked DDT. Thats ahead of Miz and Kahli. Banks (MVP) worked throughout the indies and was generally looked at as a guy with a good look but nothing else. That's why he got the deal and this gimmick. Guest East.Coast.J Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Deep South took a bunch of untalented guys for the most part and didn't teach them anything particularly handy. The Miz actually improved a lot in Deep South, but I would credit him more than the program, and he and Mike Knox are the only guys worth anything to come up yet. Derrek Neikerk and Tony Santorelli will be decent enough in the ring when they debut, but they were good from the start as well. The problem with MVP in Deep South wasn't so much that he was bad (which he was), but with the fact that he was completely devoid of any charisma, star presence or excitement in the ring. It's a shame too because I think the gimmick is awesome, but he isn't the guy they should have wasted it on.
Guest ResidentEvil Report post Posted October 4, 2006 I'm not a fan of the 4 way matches but having Finlay in the main event of a PPV is totally cool. Who would've thought that he'd be main eventing a PPV a year ago? His biggest supporters didn't even think so. I think I'll tune into Smackdown this week. I'm interested in seeing how good some of these matches will end up being.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Good thing they changed it. No Mercy would have flopped with them depending on Lashley.

RedJed 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 I can honestly say that this went from a PPV that I was sure I would buy, now to one that's not as interesting. Ironically enough I'm the opposite. I'm much more interested in the main event now than Batista-Finlay and Lashley-Booker as singles matches. Seriously thinking of throwing down on this one now on Sunday where I wasnt even considering it before.

Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 So...which TYPE of Fatal Four Way will this be: one fall to a finish, or elimination rules? you know, I wouldn't mind seeing another match similar to the IYH: Final Four match from 1997...that was a fun little match. Well of course it DID have Vader, UT, Bret Hart and Steve Austin, but still...
Bruce Blank 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 I wish they'd go for some sort elimination rules, but I doubt it - probably be a stupid "first pin to win" thing that they love so much. That way Booker can either win and not pin either Batista or Lashley or Booker can lose without getting pinned. I can only hope for a bit more creativity than that, a four way elimination match like the IYH match you mentioned would make for a much more interesting match.
