MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2006 Probably because the nutshots both hit his inner thigh. Seriously, when was the last time you saw a Hughes fight where he didn't "call timeout" for some reason. It really is kind of silly. The second one in particular didn't look even close, maybe the cup he wears is a foot long and anything even close to there will jostle it or something... I'm no Hughes fan, but just because the kicks didn't look like something out of America's Funniest Home Videos doesn't mean they didn't hurt like hell. Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2006 The Heavyweight title fight was just flat out crap. Sylvia might be a decent fighter, but I still hate him. He always bitches and complains, and he did it again in the post-show press conference, and the sooner someone, anyone, takes the Heavyweight title the better. The main event was great. I thought GSP had it won right at the end of the first round. It really was The GSP Show and Hughes seemed almost like Rich Franklin last month in that he seemed beat before the fight even started. Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2006 Tim always bores me...I understand he's very good at what he does. But I don't like watching him fight
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2006 Even if it bored the shit out of me, Sylvia/Monson reaffirmed my belief that Sylvia would handle a number of the other Top 15 HWs with some ease.
Mik 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2006 Lei, what do you think the result of Vera/Sylvia would be?
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2006 Though his punching looked improved against Mir, Vera's boxing has always been his weakpoint standing, leaving him with legkicks likely to be countered with a straight right, and a Thai clinch that's almost completely usesless against a guy as tall as Tim. Of course, Brandon is an extremely intelligent fighter, and has discussed in length what he would have to do to beat Tim, including lots of lateral movement and body work. That said, I'm unsure how well he would be able to pull it off.
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2006 - As mentioned by many people, on UFC.tv last night prior to the end of the Hughes vs. St. Pierre fight, St. Pierre was already listed as the loser with the means of defeat "to be determined". I guess officially, his means of defeat was victory. Figure Four Weekly
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2006 Sylvia fights to not lose rather than to win. It might help him not lose but it makes for boring fights. I was dying for Monson to tap out that big tree.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2006 I think the Xyience commercial is the only thing I like about Sylvia. Not nearly as good as Loiseau's french rant but still fun.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 To me (and I'll admit I don't know a ton) Sylvia just seems like an average fighter who uses his size to make the difference. Like last night he didn't seem overly aggressive or especially talented he just used his weight and size. You just described about 2/3 of the heavyweights currently stinking up the division.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 And his origami Xycience commercial is horrible. Which reminds me, why does Kit Cope have a Xyience spot? Aside from the obvious fact that he's sponsored. His claim to UFC fame is getting his ass kicked by Florian, right?

Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 GSP/Hughes just became ten times more enjoyable knowing that St. Pierre decimated Matt in front of his brother and father.
Guest swilk Report post Posted November 20, 2006 GSP/Hughes just became ten times more enjoyable knowing that St. Pierre decimated Matt in front of his brother and father. It's also more enjoyable knowing that GSP's mother was in the audience. How to win in front of Mom! Way to go GSP! He said he won the belt for North America, but we know who he really won it for! swilk (Proud Canadian)

That > spinning back kick on McCarthy I don't even remember that (the chokeslam), which I'm not sure says more about me, Cope, or Florian. Like I said, "nearly." He got him about a half foot off the ground, then just opted to toss him out of the clinch. Plus, he may have realized midway through that windpipe attacks are illegal. Guest ravman77 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 Holy fuck. I've just watched the Hughes/GSP fight and can't believe how dominated Hughes was. It was like some WWF Superstars squash match. Worse even, Hughes got zero offence. Go Rush!
Angel_Grace_Blue 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 I haven't seen the fight (Mayhap I shouldn't comment, then), so I don't know how much wrestling occured, but I wonder if Hughes is cursing Rashad Evans' name. Or, it could be put that, 'Hey, at least Evans is good for something, lollerz.'
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 Or it could be that St. Pierre is just that good. Yup, that's definetely it.
randomguy 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2006 Three was zero wrestling. Matt went for two takedowns I think. Neither of them were all that close, Matt never had control of a leg. GSP was able to spin out of both in a couple of seconds. GSP had good TD defense and his striking was light years ahead. Matt's striking is just awful. If it is improved from where it was before I shudder because it is just absolutely awful. Awful kicks, awful defense, average at best punching. He holds his hands so far apart, maybe good against wild swings but awful against precision punching.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2006 So, who's coming to Montreal in 07? That was beyond nuts. If you'd never seen MMA you'd have no clue that GSP completely dominated and stomped one of the greatest, if not THE greatest champion in the history of the sport. See you at the Bell Centre... By the way, the best part where the Canadian fans in the auidence that had the "A Country Boy can't Survive GSP" t-shirts.

Those two are known for their takedowns so using them to prepare for Hughes was a real bonus.

Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2006 If GSP and Hughes are the only ones getting a percentage of the PPV money, then they will wind up with a great deal more than Sylvia. They should be the only ones getting such a deal, because Sylvia didn't draw a dime.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2006 Has a Sylvia fight ever drawn interest? Even I didn't care to see the Andre rematches. I understand you need a heavyweight champion, but this isn't the WWE, he doesn't have to be (and isn't) the big deal. You can imagine Hughes winning bonus WOULD have been enough to put him over Tim on that one
