Obscure Videogames

Videogames that I remember being a fan of that nobody else I knew played are the following.

 

I used to be a big fan of Uncharted Waters New Horizons. I played and beat the game with all 6 characters on both the SNES and Genesis.

 

Another game was Suikoden. I dont think anybody I knew even heard of that game when it came out in 1996. It was a great fun game to play while waiting for FF7 to come out. I think Suikoden lasted only about 20 hours of gametime.

 

I remember going to Toys R Us and picking up Blood Omen Legacy of Kain based off of a review of it in Gamepro. The storyline was great and I remember thinking how cool it was to play as a Vampire and kill tons of innocent people to maintain my blood(health).

Beyond Good and Evil. Not really obscure since it got a lot of critical pub when it came out, but none of my friends have played it. I never got to finish it (the HD on my modded Box went kablooey) which I regret because it was actually a very entertaining game.

I loved that game. It had a great storyline and the graphics were top notch. Another game that I loved was Sphynx and the Cursed Mummy. It had great gameplay and a story. The only thing that was missing was Voice Acting.

Metal Warriors for the SNES. Awesome game, you could jump out of your mech and fly around with a jet pack as the pilot with a little pea shooter that had no point of existance other than you could kill other pilots with it in 2 player versus.

I might as well use this to talk about another good game (originally a double post), which was Return Fire for the Playstation (originally for the 3DO). Crazy capture the flag from a top-down perspective, with classical music attached to each of the vehicles (Flight of the bumblebee for the Jeep, Ride of the Valkyries for the helicopter, etc).

 

Awesome, awesome game.

Aerobiz had you and your buddies run airline companies and try to run the best airline. It was a very addictive game.

Metal Marines for either the PC or SNES gets my vote.

Aerobiz had you and your buddies run airline companies and try to run the best airline. It was a very addictive game.

 

I rented Deception once. Didn't find it interesting at all, and the fucker took like 10 blocks to save and the old ps1 cards only had 15.

Awesome Possum kicks Dr. Machino's BUTT which I wasn't a fan of, but continued to play over and over.

"Night Trap" was the best on Sega CD. Sorority girl slumber party, killer vampires, and sneaking around the house without getting caught.

Gain Ground was also an arcade game. I can beat the Genesis version without losing a guy except on the last boss. The arcade version had an extra-tall screen and was 3 players at once. Really a very neat game and very unique.

Silent Bomber: this is actually out in the Japanese Playstation store. An excellent 3D action game where the basic play mechanics are based on laying bombs and blowing them up. Very good graphics for the PS1, great music and some huge bosses. Just a ridiculously fun, if not altogether hard game.

Dark Cloud 2 for PS2. It might not be *that* obscure, but it was overshadowed by the majority of the PS2's RPGs like FFX, which is a shame, because it's a really solid RPG with some very entertaining and rewarding mini-games, such as using your camera to take photos of random objects in order to create various upgrade items and weapons.

Though popular everywhere, when I grew up no one was playing River City Ransom, Guerrilla Wars and CABLE. All were fine games.

I just finished it last week. I bought it for $20 around last Christmas and it pretty much sat on my shelf until the week of Thanksgiving. Surprisingly good game.

 

At the same time I picked up DC2, I also got my nominee La Pucelle Tactics. It just didn't catch my attention the same way that Disgaea did, which is sad because if I'd picked up Tactics first I might have enjoyed the game much more.

I loved Sewer Shark, Rebel Assult, ESPN presents NHL Tonight, and Tomcat Alley on Sega CD. Can't say that I was a pro but I enjoyed that crappy system so much

speaking of obscure Sega CD games, Snatcher was one of the best games I've ever played and I believe Sega CD was the only US console to get it. It's a point and click type detective game based in the future (premise is similar to Blade Runner) from the Metal Gear Solid production team. I still regret selling it off.
