Worst Song(s) of 2006

Recommended Posts

I did find myself not buying that many new albums this year, rather than just picking up albums "i should have picked up years ago".

The only ones i can think of, was Artic Monkeys, which i wish i never had and Foo Fighters - Skin and Bones, mainly for Marigold (a nirvana b-side with Dave singing).

So is Timberland this years Neptunes because he is producing the tracks that everyone hates and is overexposed?

Young B - "Chicken Noodle Soup".

The one trend that I hate more than anything is making childrens songs into hip-hop anthems the worse offender of this is "Do your chain hang low".

Does the Mellencamp song in the truck commerical count? I clean my gun to that song and think bad things.

That is, beyond the shadow of a doubt, the worst commercial of the year. My parents love Mellencamp, so as a kid, I had to suffer through that shit all the time.

Czech: It's a dance song, what's to be analyzed?

that my chemical romance song rules. im sorry.

I really like it too.

I would have picked a Fergie song to be the worst of 2006, but Gwen Stefani had to release her album in time for Xmas and that first single where she yodels made me angry it was so horrible. So I choose it.

Fergie's collection of 2006 singles

"Wind it Up' by Gwen Stefani

Timberlake's collection of 2006 singles

I'm glad some people here are giving some hate to Hinder. Man, I can't stand their songs. Needless to say Lips of an Angel is up there for worst song.

Nickelback put out a new song too, I think. Don't know the name of it, but it sounded as bad as the rest of their songs.

I'm still gonna have to give my nod to "Our Country" by John Cougar Mellencamp.

I've come to the conclusion that most people here don't like stuff that is popular (That's probably my main problem to begin with)

I actually grew to like "Fergalicious" but "London Bridge" does wear on you after a while

"Sexyback" kinda wears on you too, but it's not that bad. My mom bought me the album and I think it's pretty good

I can usually tolerate Nickelback, but "Far Away" just crossed the line

I love Gwen Stefani, but I'm kinda lost on "Wind It Up" and the rest of her album

I generally hate emo music but I've found that I kinda like Panic at the Disco

Jay-Z is my favorite rapper so there might be a little bias but I don't think "Kingdom Come" and its singles are as bad as people are making them out to be

I think I just look at music more often from "fun party mode" than "serious pay attention to the lyrics" mode

Anything by Panic at the Disco. That band is just asking for an ass kicking.

I'm glad I don't listen to half this shit. It would piss me off.

Fergilicious, yes...that song does suck asshole.

See, normally, I would put MCR and Fall Out Boy and Panic at the Prom or whatever on here, but honestly...it's kinda pointless. Yes, they suck, and yes, if I have to hear "Dance Dance" or "Black Parade" one more time, I'm going to kill myself...but, honestly...it just doesn't matter. There's more "music" being disguised as music out there for me to hate.

Every song was shite this year.

I hate that fucking song. There are only 20 words in the entire song!!!!!!!

"Fergalicious" is just a ripped off version of JJ Fad's "Supersonic". "London Bridge" is just a rip on "Hollaback Girl" Fergie truly sucks.

Leave the Pussycat dolls alone. I love "Buttons".

OMG I didn't know Chicken Noodle Soup was an actual song!!! LOL, I thought it was another one of those parody songs radio stations like to make every now and then.

As for worst besides that, its a toss up between anything from Fergie and James Blunt.

We pointed out citing lyrics in this manner is not a valid point against a song's worth about two years ago.

Oh shit, I missed that conference!

The worst part of "Sexyback" is the pointless and randomly non-musical repetition of the word "Yeah." It seems so out of place in the song because it sounds like the guy was being asked if he wants another beer.

My daughter got a toy for Christmas that sings the real lyrics to "Do Your Chain Hang Low," which I'm planning on taking to school so maybe the kids will finally stop singing that piece of crap.

Fergie is also a favorite artist among the Special Ed. population.

non-musical? what is non-musical? what is musical? what constitutes what?

i've never heard more pathetically ignorant ways to hate a great song in my life.

superjerk you wouldn't be such a sexually pent-up basketcase if you danced to sexyback just once. put a little strut in your step. it HAS to be better than being the laughing stock of the teacher faculty at school. just let go. bring sexyback. get yer sexy on.

Sexyback is good, but c'mon, there are way better dance songs than this.

listen. i never once said it was the best dance song. or even the best song on the album. the problems lies in people's ignorance. worst song of the year? song shouldn't have ever been breathed here. as mentioned earlier, how boring is it to pick on the pop stars? why not include a hold steady song? or some other criticall acclaimed indie rock band. that is much more interesting than picking on poor timberlake.

But you guys are pratically swinging off his nuts (which is why he sings so high) saying he's the next f'n prince. No one is going to become like Prince.

So I'll pick on some indie band.

Arcade Fire. There is no redeeming qualities about this band and has overstayed their welcome.

Guest "Go, Mordecai!"

Okay, the damned song accomplishes what it sets out to do, but I can't call it "creative as hell" or whatever Edwin said. Irrespective of the lyrics, it's a distorted synth loop, a guy goes "YYYYEAH." a bunch of times, and the distortion filter that every singer seems to use lately. I just think that was a strange adjective to use for a dance song. Banky's relentless advocacy for Justin Timberlake is silly, and I'm pretty sure he's ramping it up for kicks. We all have to play our characters here, I guess.

Oh, and duh: "Our Country" is the worst song of the year in a walkover.

I call it exceptionally creative because that sort of thing isn't common in the pop music environment now. Compare it to most of what's out there now and it's particularly great, taking reasonably weird stuff and making it into a great, coordinated dance song that really raises hairs when it's supposed. The parts are simple, but the sum of the production, the performance, and the contributor's total commitment to the song (unlike the half-assed effort of, say, Gwen Stefani's "Wind It Up") is much greater than those parts. Nor do I think he's "the next Prince"; he's not at a compositional or craziness level like that yet and probably will never get there. However, he's starting to strike a lot of the same themes--namely, sticking playful sex and angry love and music together in big funky messes--which is really nice. Ultimately, I think your last statement there--"for a dance song"--belies some of our difference of opinion here. Banky and I both seem to hold dance music, or music aimed primarily at the dancing/partying/etc. market, in significantly higher esteem than you do.

Speaking of the Hold Steady, I love the new album, but "Same Kooks" is awfully boring, especially when compared to the rest of the songs. Neither adventurous enough nor fun enough. And while I'm here: slagging the Arcade Fire for Worst Songs of 2006 doesn't really make sense, because I don't think they've released anything in the past 12 months.

I was kinda ragging on how Banky said "why don't you make fun of some indie band" comment.

Kotz: Promiscuous is hella better than Sexyback.

We'll just have to call it a day with this one, because I'm not picking up this extraordinary synergy that you are.

I'm out of my element with dance music, and that's not really a surprise, is it? Since it's not really music that's intended to be/conducive to being broken down and analyzed like jazz, folk, prog, art-rock, classical, et al. seem to be (whether they should be or not is another story), I can't really devote much critical thought to it without feeling like an ass, which I did do the other day, and did subsequently feel like an ass.

You motherfuckers are arguing over Justin Timberlake. Get it together.

Worst song of 2006 is the joint by that R&B Singer Chick who waves her ass around in the video.

You know the one.

clearing supporting something outside of the interests of others at tsm is just banky putting everyone on. obviously. and had timberlake came into music with a clean slate (no n'sync or other boy band allegances) i can almost gaurentee you'd all be more willing to give him more credit. and yes, for pop musical, sexyback is certainly unconventional. look at superjerk, ahem, damning indictment of the use "yeah". or how it stutter steps its way through barely audible & distorted lyrics. the production style of this song, with a blanket of electronic surges, deconstructs the popiness of it, not unlike when my bloody valentine added an additonal layer of distortion to beautiful pop music. it made it less accessible but equally enjoyable to the listener who wants to put in the time. now, don't say i am comparing this song to my bloody valentine. but this song did straddle the line between conventional & unconventional. arguably radio has never had anything like it. and there'll be plenty of imitators in the future. and you want to know why? because people who enjoy this type of music LOVED it. the cynical & overly self-conscious music snobs will easily dismiss it. which is fine. but, don't be ignorant enough to call it the worst song of the year. i guess playful sex & angry love is only acceptable whenever rock band does it.

felonies, why are you using words like adjectives and verbs to describe music? you don't listen to music with your brain, you listen to it with your balls. can anyone imagine how wretched it would be to listen to music with this guy?

guy: wow this is a great song

felonies: its ok, but i'd have chosen a different adjective in the chorus

guy: .......

This young guy I work with...don't know if he was trying to be funny or not...I was talking to my manager and he and I are Panic fans (Widespread Panic that is) and the guy asked if we liked the "I Write Sins" song...if I wasn't at work my boss and I would have thrown him out the window.

"Promiscuous" is OK..."Maneater" really grates on me. I have this urge to do violent things when I hear that song.

But I despise "A Public Affair"...Jessica Simpson really has no value other than just standing there and looking pretty.
