The Dark Knight

Recommended Posts

I'd believe it if he came in as some early 20s badass batman copycat (Wearing the Robin costume), who kept showing up to the same crime scenes batman did trying to catch the bad guys, and Batman keeps telling him to go home and leave it to the professionals. Maybe then one time Batman is in trouble and Robin shows up and makes the save, so Batman decides to take him on as his partner.

But they'd probably have to spend the whole movie setting that up, and having Robin make the save near the end, so he wouldn't be a prominant character until the next movie.

I saw TDK again on an airplane.

Holy fucking shit. Still holds up

Did you think it got better the second time? When I first saw it in a regular theater, I thought it was great, but then the second time, I saw it in IMAX, and I loved it even better (not just because it was in IMAX either).

Same for me. Saw it in a regular theatre, and then when I moved to Halifax I had to see it in IMAX. Can't wait to watch it again on Blu Ray next week.

Oh man, I can't wait to watch the blu ray of this! It seems like when I saw the movie in the regular theater, the screen looked more dark and blurry or something, but in IMAX, everything looked more brighter and sharp.

They should use the girl Robin idea from Dark Knight Returns. Except instead of a nerdy high schooler make her a sexy co-ed from Gotham U. Megan Fox would be a good choice.

Robin can be a good character, but he is so associated with the campy Batman right now in the eyes of the general public (and much of the fanbase) that he would be poison to the series. In a few years things may change and people may be nostalgic for him, but right now I can't see it being anything but a bad move.

That and they already did the origin storyline for Robin in Batman Forever, and at least that section of the movie was pretty well done. There is no really reason to go back to that so soon anyways.

I didn't know Michael Bay posted on TSM.

For proof how good Robin can be as a character, look up the classic Batman: TAS eps "Robin's Reckoning"

More part 1 than 2, but still.

True. I'm not really much of a Robin fan either, but I will admit that Robin's Reckoning was a great 2-part episode. It may actually be my favorite out of the animated series.

TAS Robin is the only version(s) of the character that I like.

Specification: Do you mean first run, pre Superman TAS or post Superman TAS for Robin.

And yes, those post "Superman" eps ARE counted as TAS...at least according to the DVD box sets.

Dunno where to put this...

So I was watching the some old Batman: TAS episodes that came on the Gotham Knights dvd, and came across 'Legends of the Dark Knight'. What the FUCK was up with this ep? and not in a bad way I mean, so far it's gone from Superfriends to Dark Knight Returns... I know this was a story telling ep with the kids and all, but I've never seen much discussion on this ep at all!

Plus, Michael Ironside as Batman works really well.

It's pretty much an episode that pays tribute to Dick Sprang, Bill Finger, Batman (66), and Frank Miller.

IMO it's a helluva a tribute to those four. In the commentary track for the episode, Bruce Timm talks about how he recieved numerous phone calls from Frank Miller - who talked about how he loved the episode and he recieved a personal letter from Dick Sprang, who thanked him. Less than a year later, Dick Sprang sadly passed away at the age of 85.

Oh and they also take a stab @ Joel Schumacher during the episode so it gets even more of a  from me.

That's a fantastic episode and one of the main reasons I want to spring for the huge COMPLETE box set. I immediately thought of it when I watched the first short on GOTHAM KNIGHT.

By the way, has anyone seen that cool documentary on The Dark Knight blu-ray that talks about the psychology of Batman's world? I thought that was a very interesting look into how a lot of characters could work in Nolan's films.

My favourite part of that episode (besides Michael McKean's cheesy Joker): The kids have a friend name Joel who prances around a store called "Shoemaker's" talking about the Batmobile scaling walls. The kids then call him an idiot. Apparently CBright already mentioned this and I missed it.

I re-watched TDK on DVD last night - not sure what the complaints I heard about the standard transfer was, it looked fine to me. I also forgot about the "should do ok against cats" line.

I vaguely remember this episode. Would this involve some kids make fun of another kid, and saying something on the lines of "he thinks the Batmobile can drive up walls"?

I was watching Doomsday the other day and i was thinking if they do Catwoman for the next movie Rhona Mitra would be great in that role.

Eva Green from Casino Royale would be pretty good too.

While we're discussing episodes of B:TAS that explore the history of the character of Batman, I'd like to use it as a flimsy excuse bring up my favorite episode-Beware the Gray Ghost. As a tot waiting for Batman '89 to be released, I was lucky enough to be exposed to Adam West as the Caped Crusader before I saw any other portrayal of the character, so hearing him as the pulp character that inspired Bruce Wayne was beyond awesome, maybe the most perfect piece of casting in a show that literally had a great voice for every single character.

My favorite part is when Bruce reveals his secret identity to Simon Trent at the end of the episode.

Batman: As a kid, I used to watch you with my father. The Gray Ghost was my hero.

Gray Ghost: So it wasnt all for nothing

[the end of the episode]

Bruce Wayne: You know, as a kid, I used to watch you with my father. The Gray Ghost was my hero.

Gray Ghost: Really?

Bruce Wayne: And he still is

Hell yeah, that's a great episode. One of my favorites, for sure. :)
