Movies you like...

Recommended Posts

I got another one, Swimfan.

Yea, it's basically Fatal Attraction with teenagers and I don't know why I watch it whenever it's on but it sucks me in every time for some reason.

Erika's giant breasts in a water soaked bra and her brilliant overacting in the last 20 minutes? Swimfan is one of my "so bad it's great" films.

Going back a page, I love the Scanners movies. I remember when the sequels/spinoffs used to air on a seemingly daily basis in the mid-90's. My favorite was part 3, with the sister going heel and attempting to take over the world by "scanning" over TV sets.

A couple I'm in the minority on simply because nobody seems to ever heard of them.

"Brain Donors" - Marx Brothers style movie starring John Turturro in the Groucho role and comedian Bob Nelson in the Harpo role. Highly underrated and funny as hell, but if you're not a Marx Brothers fan I woulnd't go out of my way to find it.

"The Mating Habits of the Earthbound Human" - David Hyde Pierce narrates a documentary telling other planets how Earthlings mate. Featuring Carmen Electra as the female lead and Lucy Liu as one of her best friends.

I loved this movie. The random fight between him and his friend, the spermanator, and especially that scene where he loses her number and calls everyone in the phone book with the same name, and making funny faces during sex, and of course, Carmen Freakin Electra. Damn good movie.

Turturro is great and that movie is hilarious. I bought a vhs copy since the DVD was unavailable at the time. I can quote the movie all day long, it's really that great.

Blue Collar - Maybe the best movie of the 70's that NO ONE has has heard of or seen. Great performances from Keitel and Kotto and a career-best dramatic performance from Richard Pryor. Very wel done movie that would easily make my top 10 movies of the 1970's list.

Across 110th Street: Great semi-obscure blaxploitaion movie I saw two nights ago. A bunch of Harlem homeboys rob The Mafia and steal $300,000 and in the process of doing so kill four mafiaso and two policeman. Yaphatt Kotto and Anthony Quinn play the two cops who are investigating. Kotto is the young idealistic, by the books cop and Quinn is the old, crusty, abusive crooked cop. A great commanding performance by Kotto and there's a fun supporting role for Huggy Bear as one of the guys who robs the mafia. Only problem with the movie is its ending is tacky as hell. Great soundtrack by Bobby Womack too (all those old blaxploitation movies had great soundtracks)

Seconded. Pierce's narration is great.

I also really enjoy The Girl Next Door. Very good update on the 80's teen movies that is way smarter than your American Pies and Van Wilders of today which is why nobody liked it.

saw ATL for the first time this AM...that's actually a decent flick. I'm curious about what Ripper thinks of it.

also, I can't believe it, but I like The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. I didn't care for the first movie, didn't bother with 2 Fast 2 Furious and generally, I'm not a fan of racing movies to begin with, but I enjoyed this one.

Lushus, I didn't care much for the first Fast and the Furious and never bothered with Tokyo Drift, but damned if I didn't kinda dig that 2nd one (2 Fast 2 Furious). Even first saw it while on a particularly bad date, but strangely enough I enjoyed the movie.

Nothing about that movie seems slightly interesting. What is it about anyway? Roller skating or something?

eh that's just a side plot thing...it's your basic 4 friends growing up coming of age kinda flick. It's a comedy-drama, so it's not like a straight serious movie or anything. Check it out, Rip, it's okay.

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised by ATL myself. They advertised the roller skating and it was coming out around the same time as Roll Bounce, so I was skeptical, but I watched the DVD one day because there was nothing else and ended up really liking it.

I rank Summer School at the top of 80s teen comedies. Far and away my favorite in that bunch.

I like Waterwolrd as well, by no means great art, but a fun movie.

Class Act is a classic to me and my circle of friends.

White Chicks. I know I know, the subject matters is the opposite of new/fresh but I was bored one day and watched it on StarZ and I actually kind of dug it.....

"Land of the Dead"

Deep Rising

Tank Girl

"Altered States"

Huh. I gotta talk movies with you more, you like a lot of the same cheesy shit that I do.

A few I stand alone on:

House of 1000 Corpses. Yeah, a lot of people like this one... but I'm the only one who liked it better than Devil's Rejects. I liked the goofy funny killers better than the serious sadistic killers.

Jaws 3. Such a terrible fucking movie that it comes out the other side being entertaining. Louis Gossett Jr. being an overacting fool is always gold, the 3D effects were ridiculously fake, I dare anyone here to transcribe a single word of the Scottish dude's hilarious gibberish monologue after his friend dies, and some deep dark sick part of me really enjoyed seeing Lea Thompson getting bit by a shark. For naysayers, compare it to Jaws 4... now THAT'S an unentertaining movie.

Plan 9 From Outer Space. Yes, straight-up without any humorous comedy voice tracks. I could watch this movie all night, every night.

Godzilla 1985. Not sure why. Just liked it. Maybe because it was the only time they really tried to ditch the goofier elements of the Gojira series and go back to the original.

Crimewave. Unfairly overlooked early Sam Raimi flick that nobody ever saw.

Stalker. Just trying to describe Andrei Tarkovsky's movies to most people is an exercise in driving away humanity. "So it's a movie that's as long as the new King Kong, but a LOT slower... and in Russian... and basically nothing happens... and you paid money for it?!" But to about 1% of the population, including me, they're utterly fascinating.

Cannibal Holocaust. Maybe the most offensive piece of shit I've ever seen. The kind of movie I like to have a copy of just so I can freak people out by showing it to them.

Always. People point to this as an example of one of Spielberg's "bad" films. I say: bullshit, John Goodman is onscreen too much for any sucking to happen.

Alien 3. Okay, I didn't like it per se, compared to the first two Alien movies... but compared to the LAST two, it's a masterpiece indeed. Plus, Charles S. Dutton.

Dark Angel: The Ascent. Ah, I miss ye olde days of straight-to-video horror crap. Give me a movie which was obviously shot on the cheap in some unnamed Eastern European hellhole and stars a cast of complete nobodies (unless you're the other guy besides me who knows who Angela Featherstone is) any day, over the bullshit they do now all shot on digital video and starring hasbeens from cancelled TV shows.

Friday the 13th, Part 4. Saw this one where Milky mentioned it, and gotta agree. Not even sure why, aside from the strange visual of a young Corey Feldman shaven bald and swinging a machete, but I just dug this one.

The Tall Guy. This is one of those movies I don't understand why nobody has heard of it. It's got Jeff Goldblum at his peak before he got caught in the Weird Scientist Dude trap, it's got Emma Thompson of all people getting nekkid in a truly bizarre sex scene, and it's got Rowan Atkinson playing a weird parody of himself as an asshole comedian.

Titanic. Yeah, I said it. Blow me.

Guest TheFabulousJakey
Also, "Drop Dead Gorgeous" is pretty good. Well, the scenes without Will Sasso are.

I love that movie too, but I'm from Minnesota so I can see how dead-on it is. Most of the critics bombed it because a lot of it is only funny if you're from there.

Speaking of lame teen movies, I should not have liked "She's The Man" as much as I did.

The Long Kiss Goodnight w/ Geena Davis & Samuel L. Jackson I am watching this now this is a great movie very underrated

I worked at the original location for the setting last year, until the place burned down to a crisp. The production company got nailed with a heavy law suit when it was settled.

The Girl Next Door is an awesome teen comedy.

Oceans 12

The Weatherman

Twister

I don't know if I mentioned this already. But I must have been one of the few people to like Idlewild, The OutKast "musical" (It only had two or three numbers in it- one of which was played over the credits) that came out last year. I don't know there's something about a hip hop musical set during the 1930s that really appealed to me.
