Strangest place you've met a wrestler

Recommended Posts

I saw Mikey Whipwreck at GNR, 5-12-06 at the Hammerstein Ballroom. He sat right in front of me, and we talked about the upcoming One Night Stand. What do you guys have, as far as meeting and hanging out with wrestlers? I don't want to hear Denny's, or a Waffle House, or a fucking hotel bar either. Come up with some good ones.

CM Punk at a movie theater bathroom. I knew it was him because my friend yelled out his name and he turned around and nodded at us.

That's just wrong. I've also "met" many wrestlers in bathrooms, mostly ROH workers since at some venues they share bathrooms with the fans. I think a bathroom isn't the appropriate time to be a mark.

I felt terrible for him. I went an hour or so into the signing and there were only about five people in line and he looked miserable, I don't think he even looked up from the paper the whole time. To be fair, it was in the middle of one of his nine month neck injury breaks. He's from the area so that's why I think they had the signing. Think it was in '02/'03.

I met Val Venis and Edge at a Markham Ontario mall. I think they were doing some kind of appearance but by this point they were just hanging out trying to pick up girls. It was when they were just starting in the Fed and they actually looked kind of annoyed that nobody recognized them. I can't really remember what I said, just something like "I like your work". They were nice guys to meet though.

I saw Lawler trying to pick up girls in the local high school parking lot back in the 90's when the WWF stopped by for a show.

Just kidding. Although it is possible that this has happened before.

Didn't meet the WRESTLER, but I remember being at a Blockbuster store when I was little and I was looking at Wrestlemania 2 trying to decide whether to get it. All of a sudden, two old ladies walk up to me and scream "OH LOOK! IT'S GEORGE!!" referring to King Kong Bundy, then go into a brief story of how they were old friends/neighbors or whatever. I don't think I've seen match one of Bundy in his prime, though, so the whole conversation just came off random as hell.

After a Smackdown in Birmingham, Alabama (Actually, the one right after the ECW involvement in the Invasion angle), I went to a Waffle House that I had heard was popular with wrestlers when they were in town (It's right off the interstate). I get in there and don't recognize, but I do see some friends and sit down. I notice they are looking at something on the other end of the restaurant, and it's basically the entire international contingent of the WWE roster at the time - Tajiri, Essa Rios, and the Yung Dragons. We didn't bother them while they were eating, but as they started to leave, we went to pay the check. Jimmy Wang Yang came up and asked, "We were wondering when you guys were going to come over and say something to us" as he had been noticing us noticing them the whole evening. We complimented them on their work that evening and called it at that. The only downside was Tajiri was outside and I was out of film. I would have definitely tried to get a picture with him if I could have.

I've mentioned this numerous times before, I met Randy Orton and Batista at a titty bar. I guess it's not exactly STRANGE. Just never thought I'd meet them there.

I met Big John Studd at the Natural History Museum in Washington DCway back when.

He's not a wrestler, but about 3 years ago I saw Scott Hudson and his wife in a local Krystal when I went in to get some food one random Saturday afternoon. I said hi to him, but that was it.

I also ran into Glacier in the local Mall about 6 years ago, a few months after Vince bought WCW. He was a fucking awesome guy to talk to. We chatted for about an hour about a bunch of wrestling stuff.

My parents met Rocky Johnson at the Bronx Zoo back in the late 70's or early 80's.

I hung out with SAT and some other local NY indy guys (Chris Devine and Quiet Storm) at a wrestling store that was a few blocks from my College that I used to hang out at. Spoke with them for like an hour and a half to 2 hours.

Oh man I didn't know Mikey was there. I would have loved to discuss Axl's sweet pleather shirt with a former ECW champ. I envy you, sir.

When I lived in Atlanta in the mid-late '90's, I worked at the Blockbuster/Wherehouse Music that used to be on Peachtree b/w Buckhead and midtown. WCW wrestlers used to come in all the time, but only when I wasn't there! I came in one day and a co-worker said DDP and Kimberly had come in the day before (when I was off) and he had gotten me DDP's autograph. One of my managers noted that they came in through the exit, and that DDP didn't look especially "out of the oridinary" big to him.

Apparently Booker T came in one day, too (I don't think I was there), but I wouldn't have recognized him, anyway, b/c I was just getting into wrestling and only then WWF. I'm guessing this was well before I got into wrestling, since I knew who DDP when he came in.

The Steiners did an in-store appearance in '97 or so, but of course, I wasn't there for that, either. :(

I currently live in Pittsburgh, and would loved to have "met" Angle when he got arrested. :)

My Grandfather met Raven and Saturn at a IHOP. That's the best I got besides meeting Jerry Lawler at a Autograph signing by Victoria Secret.

I met Van Dam on a plane headed to Charlotte in 2001; I don't know how "strange" that is, though...

I felt bad for him; some guy was bothering him the whole flight... He gave me an autograph, though...

Weird, me too. Me and some buddies used to go up to the local Deja Vu all the time because the wrestler who trained them worked there as a bartender, and we'd get in free. One night when the WWE was in town Orton, Batista, and Rico all showed up. I didn't talk to them because I didn't care, it's not like Ric Flair walked in or anything, but I've heard that Orty and Bats are regulars at clubs of both the regular and stripping varieties.

I met Kennedy at a Waffle House outside Columbia, SC after the RAW Family Reunion show in October, 2006. Very nice guy. Mysterio was with him as well. Mysterio is pretty bulky in person for such a short guy.

Back when ECW was running their Tag Team Title tournament in NYC at Hammerstein my friends and I went to the Sunday show (the second show for that weekend). We got their early and decided to walk around a little bit. We were walking in front of WWF New York and saw someone jumping up to try to touch the awning. I took a closer look and it was RVD. He walked past us and I turned around and as I turned I saw him talking to the person he was with and he was pointing at my shirt (I was wearing my Lance Storm Canadian Superstar shirt). He walked over to me and we talked for a couple of minutes. He looked so stoned.

Interesting post-script, we had tickets for right next to the enterance way to the ring, and after the main event in which RVD wrestled in he took his time to give a high-five to the fans and when he got to the enterence he saw us and spoke with us again.

(I always found it funny that we met him in front of WWF NY when a couple of years later he would sign with them)

Bumping into Petey Williams while taking out the garbage was pretty weird. I think his parents live at the same complex I do and he was going to their unit as I was walking over to the garbage bins.

My aunt once had a bunch of WCW wrestlers party it up at a bar in Detroit she works at after one of the Halloween Havocs held there (I think it was 94). I guess it's not really that "strange" but I guess Flair was really cool - she has a picture with him and I have a signed Old Shillelagh business card "To Stephen, *Ric Flair signature*".

The Saturday after a Border City Wrestling show I ran into Danny Daniels and Jimmy Jacobs (as well as "Phil Atlas" who I suspect no one has heard of, but he's pretty good) at the local mall. Good Lord they are short; I don't notice it when they are all in the ring with similar sized people and I'm sitting down but standing near them, wow. Now, in fairness, I'm about 6'5" and have nothing against short people.

Not a strange place (it was a wrestling show) but a strange reason to meet someone: At a BCW show in 2004 "Smooth Move" Chris Pilon (there's a big name drop...) did a spot where he hit someone with a picture frame. Someone had stepped on it by accident during the match so the glass was shattered. I don't know if he knew this because when he did the spot (using the non-glass side of course) the picture went right up through the broken glass while shards went flying. I got a small (too small to even feel or notice if it didn't break the skin) piece in my leg (front row seat) which caused some blood to run. After the show I told this to my friend who was a student with Scott D'Amore's school - and by proxy a member of the event crew - and he brought Mr. Pilon over. He apologized profusely for the spot getting all messed up and was glad I had a friend involved in the company since I wouldn't sue (said jokingly with a laugh after).

Brock Lesnar and Dustin Runnels at a gas station. I've told the story before (the infamous "Goldust takes a piss outside" story).

If we're counting no-names, my older brother's ex girlfriend went out with the local indie fed's weasley heel, Frankie Armadillo before she went out with my brother. Somewhat creepy thing is they went out when he was 22 and she was 16.

Oh I left out my best (I guess) nobody-local indy talent story.

"Phil Atlas" brought local young sensation Brad Martin (who ended up leaving the area and going out west) to the hospital when I was working registration in the ER. His head was all bandaged up in gauze. I signed him in and then wondered why he was seeking treatment in over here if the show they ran was in Michigan. Well naturally it was a "pay for medical assistance in the US" or "get checked out for free under OHIP in Ontario" so, according to my above mentioned friend, they had to disguise his bloody injury from customs as best they could to cross back into Canada and get checked out.

It's not a real odd locale, but I did meet a bunch of guys from OVW at a Hooters. It was after helping a friend move, just kicking back and drinking when a bunch of wrestlers came in. It was Matt Morgan, Shannon Moore (when he looked fairly normal), Luther Reigns (or whatever he was called then), Sakoda, and two really big titted blondes that were with Morgan. Shannon was probably the coolest, since he signed an autograph for my friend Chris (it was for his cousin, but I still wonder who would want Shannon Moore's autograph).

Most of them were cool enough, though Luther and Sakoda were kinda miserable and hung out by themselves. My friend Chris really, really hates Luther for reasons I've still never quite understood. In fact I still joke with him about that sign on Raw a while back of "Bring Back Luther Reigns."

When you're good enough to get the Scotty 2 Hotty Ending, the Frog Ending, and the Honkytonk Man Ending, then we'll talk. Until then, keep on digging, Watson.

I saw Mick Foley driving in the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn. I was in the passenger seat and just happen to have a copy of Foley is Good with me. I opened the window and got his attention by waving the book. He then rolled down the window of his beat up BMW and gave me the big thumbs up an told me to enjoy the book. Yes, he was wearing the red flannel.
