Guest NYankees Report post Posted February 4, 2008 Anyone else catch Strahan talking about that guy who said that "the Giants have a false sense of confidence from that Week 17 game"? Pretty sure he was talking about one Skip Bayless (on one of his First Take rants). He was talking about Howie Long.
Guest Warriorfan Report post Posted February 4, 2008 It's crazy here in the streets right now, The Giants deserved it and the look on Belichick and Brady's face after the loss was almost as sweet as the win. As for the "false sense of confidence" that was Howie Long on the pre-game show. I know these guys are experts but how could anyone watch the Giants last 4 games and really think the Pats were going to win in a walk? Before I forget, !@#$ YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! naiwf 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2008 Much like Superbowl 39 my only joy from the game is the misery of the losing teams fans, but at the same time I have to deal with the glee from the winnig teams fans. Well actually I get the joy of winning $40 and meeting Jeff King, so I'll take this over superbowl 39. And there's the joy of the perfect season ended, HA. I heard that Belicheck bought 72 bottles of champaigne and had them waiting in the locker room. Hope you enjoy them Bill! Maybe they can become collectibles like Jerry Jones' prematurely purchased tickets to the NFC Championship.

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2008 Okay I didn't post here while the game was ongoing and I'm just now posting because I've been trying to comprehend what I just saw. I don't know if that was the greatest game I've ever seen, but the last quarter was the most jaw dropping, amazing stuff I've ever seen. Going in I thought the Giants would have to play over their heads, avoid ANY turnovers, and hope the Patriots screwed up a bunch of times (fumbles, Brady INTs, etc.). Shockingly the Giants really didn't play a perfect game and the Patriots didn't really screw up with turnovers, and the Giants still beat them! So many wonderful little moments tonight. I was fuming when Belichick challenged that one guy being on the field, figuring it was the typical BS luck the Patriots get and that they would score a TD to lead 14-3. But, no. They went 4 and out and for some strange reason didn't attempt the FG (and I bet they wish they had now). It was at this point where I thought something different was going on tonight, like maybe the Patriots luck had finally run out. Of course they scored to make it 14-10, anyone who has ever watched a single NE game knew that was coming. But there was one problem...they left over 2 minutes on the clock. What else can be said about that final Giants drive? Maybe it's a spur of the moment feeling, but I think that had to be the single greatest drive in the history of football when you take into account it was in the Super Bowl, down by 4 points (recall that Montana was only down 3 against Cincy), against an 18-0 Patriots team people were calling the greatest ever. Take a look at that crazy drive. 4th and 1 conversion? Check. Utterly impossible play from Eli to Tyree where Eli avoided 3 defenders and somehow escaped, then Tyree barely grabbed it with his fingertips over Rodney Harrison. Another stellar 3rd and 11 conversion to Smith, who atoned for his muff that led to Eli's 1 INT. And then of course the score to Plaxico Burress, who got to back up his seemingly insane prediction. The brilliant irony of it was this: The Giants did to the Patriots exactly what the Patriots did to teams like the Ravens or Eagles. They made seemingly impossible or at least highly difficult plays and found a way to win. A team that was as heelish as the Pats were this year, with the Spygate crap, running up the score on people early, lucking out in some games late, generally being douches....it's like this HAD to happen tonight. I didn't think the Giants were going to win this game, at most I thought they might put up a game Rams/Steelers type effort before losing. But they certainly proved me wrong and quite honestly I am incredibly glad that they did. Take a bow, Eli.

Guest NYankees Report post Posted February 4, 2008 As a Giants fan, this game makes up for the ass kicking in 2001 against the Ravens, the blown game against the 49ers in 2003 and no shows against the Panthers and Eagles the last two years. I am so proud of Eli to put past everything that was said about him and for him to get one of the biggest monkeys in sports off his shoulders. Noone is ever going to refer to him again as Peytons little brother.

Nate 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2008 I'm super pissed the Patriots, but in the same turn this had to be the best Super Bowl games in years, I will say the Giants worked their butts off to get this far, kudos to them for bringing it to the table, neither team should be ashamed for their efforts tonight
Guest NYankees Report post Posted February 4, 2008 I am suprised that nobody has mentioned that Michael Strahan is looking like a genius for coming back this year after he took all of training camp off and thought about retirement. He is the last link left to the glory days of Simms and LT and Strahan winning a championship was much deserved.

Guest LME Report post Posted February 4, 2008 I thought that one was over when the Pats jumped ahead but ELI FUCKING MANNING and receiver made it the best championship game I've seen in a while. As Moss caught that pass I turned to my Giants fan roommates and said "You guys got this one". They all looked at me in disbelief, but Eli's done this before. Maybe never in a game of this magnitude, but he's led game-winning drives before. He's the real deal. As a Redskin fan it pains me to admit that, but it's true. I only wish I had the same confidence in our own young quarterback, but Jason has not yet shown that ability. I'm not sure if it's something that can be developed. For our sake, I hope it can be. Otherwise we'll be set back for years. Still, tonight is about the Giants. Congrats guys, you earned it.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2008 I think it also shows why if you get a great offensive lineman who can handle a blitz, might not be the best idea to let him walk for a guy who has never seen a bull rush NFL power blitz.

Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2008 Congrats to the Giants, they owned the Patriots from start to finish. You know, I had a gut feeling about the Giants after the first NE game and the Tampa Bay game that they would be able to beat Dallas, then I had a gut feeling that they would beat Green Bay, and I had a gut feeling that they could win the Super Bowl, and that the Pats considerable luck to this point was bound to run out, but I tried to convince myself otherwise. I knew they would give them a fight, but jesus, I didn't expect that game. I don't want to call this an epic choke in the sense that anyone who's watched the Patriots game to game this year had to notice them losing steam as they got into the second half of the year and into the playoffs, the defense began to show more and more holes, the offense went from high flying and full of big plays to relying more and more on the run and the short pass, and game by game we saw more chinks in the armor. They were lucky to escape with wins against Baltimore and Philly, the Giants game week 17 went to the wire, and that AFC championship game was about as ugly a win as you can get. And I don't want to call this the biggest upset ever, because aside from the mortality of the Patriots being apparent, the Giants had looked fucking great down the stretch. Eli rebutted every knock on his game with stellar performance after stellar performance, the passing game became more balanced and focused with the subtraction of Shockey and addition of Steve Smith, they found a two-headed nightmare of a running game once Bradshaw took off, the secondary started playing really well after being inconsistent early in the year, and the d line really clicked and hit full steam. So yeah, they beat the 18-0 team and everything, it's a great accomplishment from a team that nobody thought would make it this far, they played incredibly well down the stretch, 10 straight on the road or whatever it was, including playoff wins against the top two teams in the NFC with two of the biggest homefield advantages supposedly, but the odds were against the Patriots most of the way too, they'd looked human for a while and it finally caught up with them. Great, epic win, but It's really annoying to see it labeled the all-time choke/upset, it's not fair to either team. Anyway, here's hoping the NFL caught the Giants spying or using steroids or something....
