DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 Bret Hart being the HOF wrestler of the month has been a joy - all 3 matches currently available are great and I look forward to the 6 additional matches we're going to get. The actual HOF piece on him is quite good (as they usually are too) - if you don't have the 2006 Hall of Fame handy, his speech is a must watch.

DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 I believe it is the longest - at least since I've subscribed - and that can be chalked up to his 30+ minute speech.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 Wrestlemania is up on my system. Sixty minutes long. Honestly, this was kind of a wasted effort for the most part. Pat Patterson had a few interesting tidbits but the other three (Hayes, Foley, Dusty) weren't even around for 2/3rds of the shows.
Guest Dolfan483 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 The story Patterson told about the Warrior at WM 6 was pretty amazing.
Guest Report post Posted March 14, 2008 The Hart Foundation/Rockers match that's up in this section is probably the best tag match I've seen from that time period, outside of that one little fuck-up at the beginning. You can clearly see Bret saying that there was a fuck-up, so yeah. I'd give it ****1/4. Just off the top of my head, it's the best I can think of. Bret/Hennig from Uncensored '98 is good too, but it's not BRET/HENNIG good like you'd want to believe.

Frankie Williams 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 The story Patterson told about the Warrior at WM 6 was pretty amazing. SHARE!! Yes, do tell, please. I don't currently have 24/7. To sum it up briefly, he told a story about looking all over the SkyDome for the Warrior after Mania ended and finally found him in a dark room, all alone, sobbing about how he couldnt believe what had just happened. They could have done so much more with this show. I thought that they would at least have expanded it longer than an hour or had a second part.

The roundtable discussions are easily my favorite part of the 24/7 service. The quality has gotten a little low recently, though. They also could have done a whole lot more with the discussion on the territory system. I remember it being said during its run, but I'll say it again... not having Jerry Lawler, Dusty Rhodes, or even Mike Graham for that episode was absolutely ridiculous. While I like Tazz and Mick, and they were able to discuss the end of the territories and the beginning of the indepedants, neither of them had any business in that segment. Lawler, Rhodes, and Graham weren't just stars in the heyday of the territories but they were bookers and owners.
Guest shadylpete Report post Posted March 17, 2008 Rhodes & Mean Gene should have been replaced by JR & The King in the Wrestlemania one in my opinion.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2008 Without Gene, there's no one representing the first eight shows. What they do of course is film 3-4 shows at a time with the same panel, so there are limitations to what they can do. I doubt bringing guys into the studio for the "perfect" roundtable group is high on their list of priorities.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2008 I remember going through a brief stretch in the middle of 92 where I stopped watching wrestling only to come back and see that Bret Hart was the new champ. Pretty big WTF moment for me. Not that I didn't want him to be champ, it just seemed out of the blue at the time.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2008 Lushus, I watched every week from Feb. 1992 on that year and it was shocking to me to one morning get up for WWF Superstars and see Mean Gene interviewing the NEW WWF champion Bret Hart. It was truly bizarre at the time to change the title on a house show or TV taping like that.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2008 I think a friend of mine actually called me up to tell me I best be watching TV because there was a new champion (who he didn't initially recognize in the clip and thought was The Berzerker, lol - I guess he saw Bret's hair all messy from the match and called me before getting a good look. He didn't follow that closely). I returned the favour by calling him when Superstars announced Jannetty was IC champion.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2008 Disappointing LOW show. It's difficult to encompass 23 shows amongst five lively individuals within an hour time frame, but this was a disjointed LOW program, second only to the territories episode. Having Mean Gene there made sense, but he wasn't a very strong moderator. There are way too many open-ended portions of this episode. I'm disappointed every time someone is cut off, because I know they aren't going to end up finishing what they were saying. And I understand they have to cover their bases with the usual Mania retrospective items (i.e. Vince rolled the dice on the first one, Steamboat/Savage stole the show, etc.), but I'm tired of those stories. I want some backstage stories we haven't heard. We've got a guy who's been part of all 23 Wrestlemanias, someone who was directly involved in the first nine, a guy who's worked backstage at several, and two who've performed on the show and the best we get is the Warrior crying? DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2008 Well despite the general feeling it's a let down, I'm going to watch it tonight seeing as how, much like the PYBO, Cogeco here ACTUALLY HAS IT. I was looking for a torrent of it, but now there is no need.
10 Pounds 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2008 Venkman, you have the Roundtable show ? There was WM VIII added last Tuesday, but that's all I had. Edit : I've checked and I have it too. Weird to see programming being added over the weekend. If Cogeco finally resolved all their programming problems (it only took 10 months) and we will see Armageddon on the next update, it will truly be a glorious day.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2008 Yeah, Armageddon is the last step in seeing if Cogeco is back to complete updates or not. Just having the PYBO and LOW episodes are a giant step back in the right direction though. I just randomly checked the Legends bucket today as the 17th was the official date (as per WWE.com) for the Roundtable. As for the LOW show, I can see why people are let down (23 Manias are a lot to cover in 60 minutes) but it was enjoyable for what it was. Hayes gets the line of the show when asked how Tyson's behaviour was at Mania XIV ("He was easier to deal with than Shawn Michaels"). The next episode is about "Worst Characters" - I'm already looking forward to that.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2008 Yes, so long as they can avoid focusing only on the really obvious ones. The Gobblygooker was terrible, yes, but there's been too much emphasis on him considering his stint with the company lasted an entire evening.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2008 He did some house shows (well, at least one in MSG) too, but I see your point.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2008 The Gooker is mentioned entirely too much. He didn't do anything all that relevant. I'd mention a bunch of cheesy early 90s gimmicks on that show. Thing is though...did these cheesy characters really get pushed that hard or ruin things? It's pro wrestling for crying out loud, silly gimmicks are part of it. I really hope they talk about Muhammed Hassan though. Terrible character, bad wrestler, and what's worse is that I think they may have tried to push him if he'd stayed around.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2008 He also did a promo with Koko B. Ware. Goobeldygooker will have to be mentioned in a Worst Characters show though even if he was only around for a couple appearences. I think what some of you guys are missing is how hyped "The what's in the egg?" storyline was at Survivor Series '90 (I wasn't watching TV at the time but I can mention they hyped it as well). The way Mean Gene hyped it made it seem like it was going to be something big. But nope, it was the Gooker. What other characters do you think will be mentioned? I think Fake Diesel and Fake Razor will have to be mentioned. Basically a 1/3rd of the WWF roster between 1993 and 1996 could be mentioned. WCW had a plethora of shitty gimmicks too. DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2008 As long as Hayes and Patterson are on the panel, it should be an entertaining hour. Hayes always seems to have something funny to say. If Bischoff was on the panel it would be even better.
