Fuck, I thought this was going to be an awesome thread where we all talked about our board game experiences. Screw it, this thread sucks anyways. So...

 

My family plays a lot of cards, but we occasionally play board games and the like, too. Our favorites are Clue and Sorry, easily. My girlfriend and I occasionally get together with friends and we switch between video games and board games. Cranium fucking rules. Scrabble is pretty great, too. Getting a million points for the word "Qat" rules.

I like Life and pretty much all of its creations, like Simpsons Life. I also like a lot of Trivia games, like Trivial Pursuit.

Phase 10 is a fun card game.

 

Anybody remember a game called Thunder Road from the mid to late 80s? It was based on The Road Warrior. Up to 4 players get 3 cars (various size, strength and speed) and a little chopper type thig, similar to what Bruce Spence flew around in. The board consisted of 3 pieces of road that pieced together like a puzzle. When you get to the end of the road, you take the last piece and attach it to the front, creating a never ending road.

I kinda like Cluedo but never win. I had this one board game when I was a kid called "Ghost Castle" which had loads of traps and shit and you could disarm them. It was so cool.

I once played a 15 hour game of Risk with a head full of acid and a napoleon hat. I smoked three packs of cigarettes in that span of time. I ended up losing at a last stand in Siam, and didn't talk to anyone for a couple days.

My favourite games are a couple of little-known Canadian games called Poleconomy and Globetrotters.

 

Of the more established games, I love Careers and Monopoly. I love Scrabble, too, but my family refuses to play against me.

Careers! My grandmother has that game when I was about ten; I had never heard of it, and to this day, I'm the only one I know who has played it. That's awesome.

 

 

My friend Adriana and I are in the midst of a best-of-seven Scrabble series. The winner gets lunch, including drink, dessert, and tip, at our favourite restaurant. I thought I was pretty good, I scored in the low 200's both games so far; she's hit 300 both times.

I play a lot of Risk now. Settlers of Cataan is another game that my friends and I used to play a lot, but many fights came about from that game so it's kind of been pushed to the back burner for now. Yes, fights, and these are post college age people I am talking about here.

My grandparents have one, and as a kid I used to play Crokinole a lot. When my mom was a teenager, every friday night, her and her friends and my uncle's friends would go over to my grandparents house, drink, play crokinole and listen to music.

 

I remember in Grade 10 in English class, my teacher Mr. Bartley (who looked like John Lennon) mentioned Crokinole. My cousin was also in my english class, and we were the only people in the class that has ever played the game. We challenged my teacher, and got schooled fairly easy by my teacher and another teacher.

I got a new Game of Life a couple years ago. Goddamn they got cheap with the board and pieces. It was awful.

The new Game Of Life: Twists And Turns is pretty fun, but coming up with strategy is almost too easy after the first time you play. And it's fun to not have to worry about paper funny money and stuff, as everything is done by a small computer.

Go (the ancient Japanese game)

Clue: VCR Board Game

Clue II: VCR Board Game

 

 

I love VCR Board games, in fact I want to try the new DVD versions of Atmosfear and Atmosfear 2: Khufu.

 

Probably only my fellow Canadians on here will even know what the fuck I'm talking about.
