NBA Playoffs 2008 - Conference Semifinals

Recommended Posts

I think the next game will be really close but I don't think the Celts will win it.

I'll believe that when I see it. The home teams have performed exceptionally well this postseason, especially Boston.

Celtics will get the benefit of some calls they didn't tonight under the basket and should win it, even if it's close. I think they win going away though.

Soooooooo... You are a boston fan, right?

I'm about as pro-Boston and anti-Lebron as you can get. So I have two things vested in this series.

Meanwhile Ripper has admitted to being anti-Boston and he seems pretty pro-Lebron.

So maybe we're just cancelling each other out here.

Wait...i am anti boston now? I am not pro anyone but Atlanta and Phoenix.

I guess I am pro lebron becuase I am not being crazy and saying that he is just getting calls because he is a superstar and not rooting for him to be injured to show that ESPN for hyping him.

Anyway, it has nothing to do with cancelling out, I think I am just more realistic while others seem to be clinging to this belief that a home court is an invicibility.

In the first round 4 out of 16 teams managed to whole home court.

In the second round 4 have been able to hold so far, but you aren't going to see a bunch of game 7's here. Home court is a nice little boost that is fun to have, but unless you are pulling a "fo, fo, fo, fo," as Moses Malone would say, its just that, a home court advantage. Not a guarentee.

that doesn't make me anti anyone or pro anyone. It makes me realistic.

What is Dama's beef with LeBron?

Espn talks about him therefore he is evil.

they also talk about the celtics just as much but they aren't evil because he is a fan of theirs.

So ESPN talking about Lebron = BAD and lebron should get shoved out the air and injured to teach him a lesson for being good and having ESPN talk about him.

ESPN talking about the Celtics = Fine because Dama is a fan.

Thats pretty much it in a nutshell.

What is Dama's beef with LeBron?

He gets way more hype than is humanly deserved. He gets way mor ethan the Celtics. At least the Celtics are a team and not believed to be one superman that can single-handedly defeat any team in the NBA.

Plus the color guy is usually busy slurping Lebron too during any game. And the whole "We Are Witness" ad campaign really drives me crazy.

And I said you were anti-celtics because of you talking about how you were rooting for them to lose after the Atlanta series because you didn't like the way KG was acting.

It has nothing to do with me being unrealistic. I just don't like what I don't like. Sorry if that upsets you or confuses you Ripper.

Garnett was looking quite salty last night. Boston better pray LeBron doesn't get into "Game 5 2007 Eastern Conference Finals" mode on Wednesday.

I would imagine the way the Cleveland PA guy yells "TTHHHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" after every Cav 3 would annoy non-Cav fans.

He liked the whole starting five, no man above the team concept that Detroit employed before Big Ben left.

You're, what, 23? Good thing you weren't really around for the Jordan era.

Yeah I'm 23 and I didn't watch or care about ESPN when the Bulls won their 6 titles, thank god apparently.

ESPN circa 1995

Jordan, Jordan, Jordan, Commercial, Jordan, Jordan, Jordan

In the middle of Summer.

I agree he deserves the hype as well... Since High School, he's backed up his hype with his great play. Cleveland was a joke of a franchise before he came.

But anyway, even though I live in Canada and don't get ESPN, it seems to me like Kobe is more hype and talked about in the media then LeBron.

Great win for Detroit (6 straight ECF appearances now). Now they can rest Chauncey for a few extra days.

As far as the LeBron stuff goes, it was pretty much the inordinate amount of hype he received before he even played in an NBA game that turned me off some (as well as playing for a division rival). Even MJ never had that amount of hype that early. My hate for LeBron has died down a little though as he lives up to his billing.

MJ didn't have that much apparent hype early because we were still 20 years away from the 24-hour news cycle. That's what causes all the over-the-top stuff nowadays.

True.

I'm not a big fan of dunks like most other people are. But blocks like Tayshaun seems to pull out in the clutch... yeah, those are the NBA highlights I like to see.

And I personally hate the "Superstar Hype Machine". I don't mind LeBron, because he handles himself pretty well, but overall the hype that most sports tend to focus on a few superstars (the NBA is probably the most guilty of this, but every sport does it) tends to irk me. I find myself rooting against those guys just because I don't like being told who to watch.

Seroiusly, right now, most of the calls tonight are like "Fuck you Hornets...know your goddamned role here."

All-rookie teams. Interestingly enough, despite Durant winning the ROTY, Horford was the only unanimous choice.

1st team

Al Horford, Atlanta

Kevin Durant, Seattle

Luis Scola, Houston

Al Thornton, LA Clippers

Jeff Green, Seattle

2nd team

Jamario Moon, Toronto

Juan Carlos Navarro, Memphis

Thaddeus Young, Philadelphia

Rodney Stuckey, Detroit

Carl Landry, Houston

I could be wrong, but I think if you hate a player because of the media hype that is mostly beyond their control, then you're more concerned with hype than you are with basketball. LeBron didn't dress up in a wedding dress or anything, he didn't do anything to court attention beyond being an amazing, transcendent basketball player.

I feel bad for you, Dama! Not in a snooty, superior way either. Kobe and LeBron play beautiful basketball, and hating on them for their hype is lame.
