Three point assassin, and solid post defender right up until his retirement. His defense on Jermaine O'Neal was a huge factor in the Nets/Pacers series a couple years ago. Coming off the bench, he can put tough defense on the other other team's scoring threats and he has the ability to put the ball in the basket as well. TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2008 I had a pick lined up but I can't believe this dude is still available: Reggie Theus, SG - Averaged under 18ppg only 4 times in his 13 year career - Career averages of 18.5/3.3/6.3/1.2 - One of only 2 men in NBA history taller than 6'6 to amass over 750 assists in a season - 2 time all-star - All-rookie first team - Played all 82 games in a season 8 out of his 13 NBA seasons (played 81 in another) Umm yah, didn't really think of him but when I realized he was still on the board, I couldn't pass him up. Could score in bunches and dish the ball as well as anybody his size. Was a team player who had no problems filling whatever role was needed while still producing. Had three monster years, making the All-NBA Second team each of his first three years before hitting his head in a playoff game in '58 and suffering brain damage. Very versatile player who could do it all on the court, he was Magic Johnson before there was a Magic Johnson. Was probably on his way to becoming one of the all-time greats before his injury. He was the 1957 rookie of the year, a 6 time all-star, 4 time all-NBA second team, and an 8 time NBA champion. But I'm not picking him as a player, I'm picking him as my coach... Tom "Tommy" Heinsohn! A protege of Red Auerbach, he coached the Celtics from 1970-1978, through what was initially considered a rebuilding period with the end of the Auerbach/Russell dynasty, winning two NBA titles in the process. He won a coach of the year award in 72-73, and amassed a record of 427-263 (.619), the 11th best regular season win percentage amongst coaches with at least 200 games on their resume. His teams had a .588 win percentage in the playoffs. Like Red he emphasized unselfish team basketball, defense and hustle, making him a perfect fit for my players. He and stories like his are why I didn't want to pick any current young guys. He got hurt after two fantastic seasons, and by age thirty, turned into a role player. Mehmet Okur 2007 NBA All-Star Key reserve on 2004 Pistons' championship team I had other options but with Wallace/Eaton on my squad, I really needed another big who's more offensive-minded. Okur adds another dimension to my team by being able to stretch the opposing D past the 3-pt line. He also gives me a reliable FT shooter for end of game situations at 79% for his career. Considering that I have Walton (66%), Eaton (65%), and Wallace (the worst FT shooter in NBA history at about 42%), this really helps. I now have 4 guys that I can mix and match at power forward and center depending on the situation. I also liked this anecdote from the 2006-2007 season (from NBA.com) Okur has been one of the most clutch players in the NBA this season, hitting 28 game-tying or leading field goals in the fourth quarter or overtime, including four-game winning shots in the final 40 seconds of games. He has also proven durable, having appeared in 231 straight games (all 213 since joining the Jazz), the fifth-longest active streak in the NBA. And the man to coach this cast of characters will be... Dick Motta Coached 1978 NBA champion Bullets 2-time Eastern Conference champion (1978, 1979) 9th in NBA coaching victories (935) 1971 NBA Coach of the Year (with the Bulls) 1st ever coach of the Dallas Mavericks In addition to all that, his '78 team was a main part of the reason that the phrase: "The opera ain't over 'till the fat lady sings" came about. He did a reverse jam in some game, and I thought it was the coolest thing ever, the guy nearly being seven feet tall, and all. Elden Campbell, man. Everyone loved this guy.
