I wouldn't call the 20K game an "epic fuckup," as that implies that they frittered away a victory in embarrassing fashion. When it comes to that, Wood has been on the bad side of those. Blowing a 3-1 series lead because a foul ball and a fielding error made everyone's brains flop out of their heads is an epic fuckup. Blowing a wild card by losing games on the last strike to non-contenders while blaming it on an announcer is an epic fuckup. The Astros just ran into a buzzsaw.

Maybe this is retarded, but what about Sandy Alomar Jr.? Catchers know a ton about pitching, and I think he's our catching instructor or something.

Dave Duncan was a catcher, and look how well he does. Pitchers under his guidance either have career years or die.

Fantastic performance from Maine today as he gets into the ninth before running out of gas (8.1 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 4 K) in a 12-1 trouncing of the Dodgers. Much needed relief for an overtaxed bullpen and especially nice considering the Mets have the day off tomorrow.

Ha! In the Phillies/D-Backs game, Victorino is on 2nd base w/ Howard at bat. D-Backs have the shift on, which means nobody is covering 3rd base, so Victorino just takes off for 3rd with the D-Backs pitcher looking right at him, helpless to do anything. Howard strikes out (no!) to end the inning, though.

Brandon Phillips has done that with the shift on Griffey or Dunn. IIRC, he stole second base and didn't slide, just kept motoring to third. That was early this year.

The Braves have the worst road record in the league this year yet have a winning record overall and are just a game and a half back in the East right now. Wierdness.

On Sportscenter last night they were hyping some massive brawl in Seattle, so I kept watching to see what happened. Finally they show the highlights, and what happened? Felix plunked two Rangers, then a ball was thrown high at Sexson but wasn't even close to hitting him. Seriously, even if he hadn't leaned back it wouldn't have been close, but he gets pissy and charges the mound and throws his helmet. What a fucking baby. I love Richie, but what a fucking baby.

He'll find a job as a catcher somewhere.

Too bad. Edmonds used to be a great player.

The Seattle/Texas "brawl" was kind of funny. I liked Milton Bradley picking the catcher up at the end and carrying him away.

Hanley is about to sign a 6 year - $70M deal with the Marlins.

:)

Mother-fucking-finally.

am i wrong, but could hanley have gotten a better deal in like 3 years? its kinda disappointing he is locked down for only 70 million until his early thirties. why not just do the arbitration bit or hold out for a year or two more, and allow his stock to sky rocket?

i love cabrera is detroit, but part of me wishes me was still on florida as part of this. if he stayed in florida and the n.l. who knows his potential. the change seems to have stunted his progression a bit. of course, its still early. i'm happy for the marlins. i'm cheering for all of those old tigers. i am even cheering for jairs jurjjens in atlanta, although that trade frustrated me from the beginning. go old tigers prospects! we miss you.

Wait, Bill Schroeder is calling a nationally televised Brewers game? Hahaha. Well, no worse than Mark Grace calling the Dbags game right now, or past instances of Darrin Jackson calling the Sox. Alas, the national coverage does not have a "Piggwy Wiggwy thcatting repawt."

Brian Schneider just got his first extra base hit of the season. Yes, of the *season*. And yes it is May 10

We didn't trade for him so he could hit. He's done his job pretty well so far.

Lou can feel free to end this "Reed Johnson is an everyday player" notion any time he wishes. You take out his hot start and then consider Pie's defensive strengths and the two aren't so different as to be warranting the contrast in playing time.

Lou really does not like Felix Pie. I'm not even sure that I do, either. He was overhyped. That said, Reed is really struggling with right-handed pitching.

Somebody found the Arroyo from '06 and plunked him into tonight's game, 4-1 lead into the bottom of the eighth, nice job Bronson

Only the Mets could make Bronson Arroyo, with his 7.14 ERA, look like Cy Young.

They had a good win before -- although Santana was not dominating going six innings and giving up ten hits -- but the second game...yeesh. The bullpen collapsed, which is hardly a new story. And it seems they wasted all the offense in the first game considering they built up an anemic four hits and one run against Arroyo.

One step forward. One step back. Two games over .500 just like yesterday.
