Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 Betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, 007 fights the urge to make his latest mission personal. Pursuing his determination to uncover the truth, Bond and M interrogate Mr. White, who reveals the organization which blackmailed Vesper is far more complex and dangerous than anyone had imagined. Forensic intelligence links an MI6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where a case of mistaken identity introduces Bond to the beautiful but feisty Camille, a woman who has her own vendetta. Camille leads Bond straight to Dominic Greene, a ruthless business man and major force within the mysterious organization. On a mission that leads him to Austria, Italy and South America, Bond discovers that Greene, conspiring to take total control of one of the world's most important natural resources, is forging a deal with the exiled General Medrano. Using his associates in the organization, and manipulating his powerful contacts within the CIA and the British government, Greene promises to overthrow the existing regime in a Latin American country giving the General control of the country in exchange for a seemingly barren piece of land. In a minefield of treachery, murder and deceit, Bond allies with old friends in a battle to uncover the truth. As he gets closer to finding the man responsible for the betrayal of Vesper, 007 must keep one step ahead of the CIA, the terrorists and even M, to unravel Greene's sinister plan and stop his organization. I'm so psyched on this. Another action packed new aged bond film, I can't wait!

Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2008 Alicia Keys and the White Stripes' Jack White will record the theme song to "Quantum of Solace," the 22nd James Bond film, which hits U.S. theaters Nov. 7. The song, "Another Way To Die," will be the first duet in Bond soundtrack history. White wrote and produced the song, and also will play drums. The soundtrack to the movie will be released Oct. 28. The score for the film will be composed by David Arnold. "Quantum of Solace," starring Daniel Craig, will be directed by Marc Forster from a screenplay by Neal Purvis & Robert Wade and Paul Haggis. Amy Winehouse had previously been rumored as the vocalist for the latest Bond theme. Thank GOD that didn't happen.

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2008 No need to ever remake Bond movies like Dr. No. As long as you can come up with a megalomaniac villain or an evil group like SPECTRE you can keep doing Bond movies.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2008 True, but I do wish Live and Let Die, Moonraker, Diamonds Are Forever, and You Only Live Twice had been remade to be more faithul to the books. Even though Quantum of Solace is a new story, I do love the Live and Let Die references (L&LD follows Casino Royale in the book series) both from the film and the novel: Bond wanting revenge on the new SPECTRE, a boat chase, and supposedly Bond is going to take down a heroin smuggling operation . Also, Bond seems to be attending a formal party, which is what happens in the actual QoS short story so that's a great nod there. how many more original stories are left to make in to James Bond movies? The Property of a Lady, Risico, The Hildebrand Rarity, and 007 in New York are the last Fleming Bond titles not to be used for the films, but I'm not sure if they'll be made because some of the plot points or characters from those stories were used in the films, most notably For Your Eyes Only and License To Kill, but then again that's never stopped EON before from using the title and the story not having anything to do with the novel (ex: The Spy Who Loved Me) so we'll see I guess. Will they someday start over again and remake Dr. No? EON stated they will not remake the old Bond films. (You never know though.)

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2008 The Property of a Lady was already used in Octopussy though. In fact I recall there being several mentions of that phrase in the film. And I do think that Property was also the planned 3rd Dalton outing that was never made in the early 90s. The Hildebrand Rarity...ugh. Sounds a little boring as a title. I can see Risico though, that is a little mysterious and cool sounding.

Darthtiki 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2008 Wonder why they chaged the release date. Stiil, looks great. The reason they changed the release was part of the ripple from Watchmen being in litigation and WB moving Harry Potter to compensate
pochorenella 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2008 So I got to see the movie last night and I thought it was a worthy addition to the franchise, even if it cannot compare to the brilliance of Casino Royale and really, it would have been foolish to aspire to match that movie. Yes, it is more Bourne like than Bond-like but that is not necessarily a bad thing. The fact that Bond himself is not as charming or as funny as the previous film I see as a natural progression for the character since this movie happens literally hours after Casino Royale and it figures he still is in pissed-off mode from Vespers betrayal. He does start to develop the coldness required to be an effective Licensed to Kill agent that he somewhat lacked in the previous movie, even if he seems to go way overboard with it, almost like a true killing machine. I did not like the theme song that much. And for someone who asked before, there are almost no Bond cliches going on in this picture. Still, go watch it. Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2008 Saw it last night. Pretty good but Casino Royale was much better.
Anakin Flair 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2008 I saw it last night as well. I'll agree that Casino Royale was better, but this movie wzas pretty damn good as well. Probably by the next movie we'll get more of the suave secret agent we all know and love.
Special K 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2008 Might as well copy and paste. Y'all are crazy. Just saw Quantum of Solace. More like Quantum of Bollocks. Total let-down, since Casino Royale was fantastic. The plot's totally uninteresting, and a weak save-the-planet allegory. bad villain. Horrible action sequences, with camera cuts literally every second. A terrible car chase, and a terrible stab at the awesome parkour scene from Casino Royale. Daniel Craig's still a good choice. Bad movie overall, though.
Aero 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2008 The camera cuts in the action scenes were a little annoying, but I didn't mind them much. I thought it worked well for the opera scene, for instance. I went in not thinking it was going to be as good as Casino Royale, so I wasn't let down when it wasn't. That said, I still really enjoyed it, and Daniel Craig continues to impress as Bond. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2008 I'll use some spoilers here since I'm going to go into some detail. Overall I'd say this is a *** movie, a solid Bond outing but I had some problems with it. I was immediately angered by a lack of spotlight and gun barrel at the beginning. What is with these people? I can see wanting to reinvent the wheel a bit, but let's not total the car. Theme song sucked, but then it's Jack White trying to do a Bond theme....the idea of it is bizarre since the White Stripes are underproduced garage rock. Anyway, I was eventually relieved that the spotlight/gun barrel bit was at the end of the film, so look for it there. The first 30-40 minutes of this film were a bit incoherent, trying too hard for the chaotic shaky cam of the Bourne movies (without realizing that Bond and Bourne are on opposite ends of the spy spectrum). It wasn't bad or anything, but I had a hard time truly getting into it. The movie picked up once Mathis gets back into it and it shifts to Bolivia. I adored the character of Agent Fields and once she arrived to meet Bond at the airport for the first time I felt like I was watching an actual Bond movie. Her eventual fate will be the defining moment of this film and a series highlight. Think of the chick in Goldfinger except with oil. Once the film finds a groove it got really good. Mathis' death was a surprisingly touching scene, with Bond dumping him in the trash and moving on after a few tender moments. Gen. Medrano was the best villain in the movie, easily surpassing Dominic Greene. Medrano at least had some distinctly heel trademarks like raping the main chick's mom and sister, killing her dad, etc. It's easier to hate that than it is Mr. Eurotrash. Greene wasn't horrible really, but he's far from a top level Bond villain. In fact Medrano had the most amusing scene in the entire film, as Greene basically screws him on the corrupt deal and reveals he has 60% of the water in Bolivia. Medrano responds by immediately trying to rape the maid at the hotel. That was great. As an aside on the villain front, I think the next Bond movie needs a henchman lackey heel. We need another Oddjob, Jaws, the blond dude from For Your Eyes Only, hell I'll even take Stamper from Tomorrow Never Dies. This has been missing from the past few Bond movies. In the end it was a reasonably satisfying Bond outing, but I truly wish they would get back to the basic formula of the series. Occasionally shaking things up is a good thing, like in Casino Royale. But I miss the feeling of cameraderie in the series, and the whole plotline of Bond going renegade and M being pissed is beyond stale. Besides, what is a Bond movie without Q or Moneypenny? MFer 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2008 I actually thought the theme song sounded great in the theatre (saw it last night), but when I went back and listened to it on YouTube, it didn't sound too good.
DarKnight 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2008 I liked Quantum of Solace, but yeah, Casino Royale was a better film. I too was worried about the gun barrel scene missing from the opening, but I marked out when it happened before the credits. I'm not complaining about Moneypenny and Q missing from the new series since I know they are going for a new aproach to the bond series, but I do miss Bond's one liners and humor though. I always considered that his distinguishing characteristics. Though Craig has had some funny lines in his movies, I wish he would do more.
DMann2003 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2008 I thought there were plenty of quips, just not nearly as 'punny' as they used to be "Time for you to get out", after the opening car chase "He was a dead end" "Good God he killed him"
