  1. If not for Seven Samurai, this would probably be Kurosawa's best film. One of the saddest but most beautiful endings of any film ever made, IMO. It's bittersweet yet edifying at the same time, because while Watanabe basically wasted his adult life in a meaningless occupation, he finally finds a way to give his life lasting meaning and purpose, and he actually accomplishes that goal before his time is up. God, I love this film. It's so incredibly beautiful and haunting. How can you NOT get misty-eyed at this.
  2. So adorable it makes me forget the anti-semitism.
  3. Totally missed this. I was watching "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves". Was the main event any good?

    Nacho Libre

Sez the Lindsey Lohan / Hillary Duff fanboy. Don't be casting stones from the porch of that glass house of yours. As for this movie, I enjoyed it. People seem to have wanted or expected too much of this. First off, it's a Jack Black flick. If you don't like Jack Black hamming it up onscreen, you probably won't like it. Next, it's written / directed by the guy who did Napoleon Dynamite. Humor IS subjective, but a lot of people just didn't like (or "get", though it's a bit pretentious to say that) the humor of ND, so a movie that has some of the same type of humor isn't going to please everyone. And finally, it's not really a lucha movie. It's a movie with a lucha libre backdrop, so anyone going in there expecting a serious look at lucha was going to be disappointed. I liked the film. I found it funny at times, and overall, it was good-natured and the final fight with Ramses was a lot of fun. BTW, I totally thought that Ramses was Dr. Wagner Jr., given the way the mask fit on his head and his body type, but I was mistaken - Ramses was actually his brother, Silver King. About Talladega Nights: Have to agree that it looks hilarious. I literally LOL'ed at the trailer, twice. Once at "Tom Cruise, use your witchcraft to get this fire off of me!" and again at "I can't control my heartrate I got a cougar on me!"
  5. I kind of want BBC America, but only for their drama series. Or maybe any show featuring Gordon Ramsey.
  6. What's the lineup for this? With a name like "Sleuth Channel" I'd be disappointed if the didn't air a ton of mystery shows.
  7. Kotz has been around forever, but I already like Gay Abe better than anything Kotz has ever done. And Gay Abe only has like 9 posts at this point.
  8. Governor of Virginia. Centrist Democrat. Chiseled jawline. And he's the Democrats BEST chance of winning back the White House. It ain't Hillary. It's Warner. A Warner / Richardson ticket could be a solid winner. Frankly, if the Republicans do something stupid like nominate McCain, a Warner ticket might get my vote, supposing that the V.P. candidate doesn't suck.

It wouldn't matter, I've never heard of any of those bands anyway.

    New Keane Album

I liked the first album so I'll give this one a shot.
  11. My new sig. Because Otis Driftwood is fucking awesome.
  12. Not too many will get this. I hope the ones who do appreciate it.
  13. After seeing that truly abysmal pile of shit last night, I think Rhino made the right move.
  14. Why does WP have to turn everything into a story about him. And not a short story about himself. A long-ass story about himself.
  15. This is different than usual how. Get AIDS and go to fucking hell, Spoon.
  16. Thank you. People who think that the Hulk character is just supposed to be about a big green guy tearing shit up, well, you have absolutel NO understanding of the character. In the short view it's a modern take on Jekyll and Hyde, in the longer it's a commentary on the eternal struggle between the id and the ego / superego, the fight between man and his darker, more violent urges. There's no harm in exploring that. Any Hulk film that didn't wouldn't be worth watching. Fuck, even the old television show explored that. As for Snipes as Black Panther: WHY is he 'born' to play that character? The character is a serious, regal African king. I don't know, I don't buy Snipes as that type.
  17. You're hopeless, Marvin. I haven't read through all of this thread but I'm beginning to question whether you're just terrified of women. * if the strip clubs are in Delaware, than drive there and visit one. Why not? What have you got to lose? * There's probably something very weird going on with you psychologically where I mention a massage and you automatically think of some negative experience in your background. Maybe instead of being afraid of women it's just intimacy. BTW, I didn't necessarily mean a handjob (it's not a given you'd get one anyway), but just the physical intimacy of having someone of the opposite sex actually TOUCHING you would probably do wonders. * I'm serious about considering a whore.
  18. I would gladly eat that roast beef sandwich any day of the week. I will say something, though, if you had said she wasn't that great looking when she first appeared, I'd be right with you, because they "WWE-ized" her early on. But the last couple months she's looked more like "Alexis Laree", so I'm in love with her again. Can't agree with you on Melina, either, I think her face is fine. It's not a gorgeous face, but it's fine. Can't agree about JBL's promos, either. He's probably the best heel in the company.
  19. You are the opposite of everything that is good. (Except for the Shelton comment. That's the one thing that was true) I disagree with you both on the Shelton remark. However: * I think his remark about Masters is valid. I like Masters, he's a lot better than people give him credit for. He's not ready for the upper card but he should be a solid midcarder and should at least be feuding for the IC title now. * Also, Roy has a point about Carlito. It's been my position for months now that Carlito is counterfeit. He sucks in the ring and while everyone goes on about how great he is on the mic, I don't really think he's THAT good. This guy gets an awful lot of love for being so thoroughly mediocre. * Speaking of guys getting more love than they should: Ken Kennedy. Yes, I get it, he says his name twice, that's fine, I GET IT. There are people who are acting as if he's the second coming of the Rock, saying he has "Rock-like charisma". No. His schtick is kind of amusing, but he really is nowhere NEAR Rock-level anything and he's getting an awful lot of love while not really showing too much. It's way too early to be kissing this guy's ass so much. * I also think Kurt Angle in ECW is a ridiculously stupid move. * Unlike some of you here, I don't immediately sport an erection the moment that the Undertaker busts out a silly MMA move. * The Real Kane / Clone Kane angle that's started on Raw recently is maybe the stupidest angle (currently) in the entire company, yet it's also the only Angle on RAW that I think is actually interesting enough to watch. * Finally, a diva comment: Krystal Marshall is maybe the WWE Diva, next to Beth Phoenix, who does the absolute least for me. She's certainly attractive, no question, but outside of the mannish Phoenix I'd take every other WWE Diva over Marshall. Yep, not just the obvious ones like Trish or Mickie James, but even the more 'controversial' choices of Jillian Hall or Lita. This feeling of mine is confounded by how lovestruck Meltzer seems to be with her, as he acts as if she's the hottest woman in the entire promotion. I just think Dave's got the jungle fever.
  20. The Hulk movie is - and I'm not kidding here - probably the BEST of the Marvel comic-book movies. Well-acted, with a solid plot and very good characterization. It was a comic-book film that worked as a drama. The problem people had with it, why they think it "sucked", was because they wanted two hours of the Hulk smashing shit, when what they got was a dramatic film that slowly built up to the arrival of the Hulk before the action sequences occurred.

    Wedding Gift

Anyone sending gifts back is an ass. Motherfucker, they don't have to GIVE you shit, no matter how close they are to you. Fifty dollars is fine. For something like that I personally like to give a bit more, around $100 (depending upon whether this was a casual friend or a close personal friend), but fifty is perfectly acceptable.
  22. I'll second Dr. Pepper. It seems to have a higher carbonation level.
  23. Perhaps Marvin needs to baby step this process. Have you ever been to a strip club? Perhaps you can start there. Start off by at least being in the same room with a naked woman. Just to get the experience of it. Next might be a good massage parlor. Could even be a legit one, but there you'll have a woman actually touching you. Then we work our way up to the whores. If you think I'm making fun of you with this, I'm not. There's no shame in going to a strip club, getting a massage, getting a whore.
  24. It wasn't a bad match, but they needed a really exciting, special match to win over the WWF crowd, and they didn't really deliver. So it got shat on.
  25. I still need to see X-Men 3. Other than that, though, the only films in June that I'll wind up seeing are probably Nacho Libre & Superman. I'll be honest, I'm 10 times more excited to see Nacho Libre than Superman. I just am almost totally apathetic towards this new Superman flick. If I wasn't such a comic book geek, I'd probably just skip it altogether.
