  1. Lets start a rap group and do JUST THAT. The first single? "(Goodbye) Yellow Toothed Hoe."
  2. Silverlake and Los Feliz kind of remind me of SE Portland.
  3. Who says I'm in love with Los Angeles? I'm from Portland. About Los Angeles though... it's been said earlier, parts are nice, parts are terrible. It's too big of a city to write off with one sweeping gesture. I live in South Central. It's a shit hole. I work in Torrance. It's less shitty. I also work in Hollywood, it isn't shitty at all. Santa Monica is beautiful. The Inland Empire is boring. It's nothing personal against you, man, I just hate Sacramento. Let me put it this way... I've BEEN to Cleveland, and I'd rather live in Cleveland than Sacramento. I will say this about L. Angeles, you can't find a good cup of coffee
  4. No, no, no. The big problem with Portland is hipsters.
  5. ... and have a boring son who ends up selling meth out of his '98 Corolla behind an AM/PM. Sacramento smells like unholy cow mess.
  6. Oh boy, Andy Reid is looking Mark Mangino fat.
  7. Says you. This script bugged the shit out of me. I generally enjoyed the movie, the dialogue mellowed before too long, but when it was bad... it was so bad. It made me want to leave. I have a big thing about dialogue, I may just be the equivalent of the guy watching a sci-fi movie and saying "NO WAAAAY! AN EXPLOSION WOULDNT MAKE NOISE IN SPACE. GAAAAAAH"
  8. If you can find it, check out his duet with Mary J. Blige. They sing "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues." It's beautiful. Makes me cry.
  9. If Kobe wins, you wont hear a word of complaint out of me, but I really think LeBron deserves it thus far. His team is barely over .500 in the east, but if you replaced LeBron with, say, Gerald Wallace. Where are the Cavs? They're dead in the water. They're the Bobcats. If you replaced Kobe with Rip Hamilton, isn't that team still competing for a 7th or 8th spot in the West? This isn't how we should be picking MVPs, of course. Well, not the only way, but it's something to think about.
  10. Just watched Nick Thune's comedy central special... meh. I think the "hipster stand-up" is starting to run it's course. I just booked the main stage at The Comedy Store in L.A. if anyone is going to be in town, you should come check it out... I'll send a shot to your table.
  11. He might be. He's one of three candidates at this point. I don't think you can throw out Chris Paul or Lebron James at this point, with the seasons they've been having. Kobe is absolutely sick, but is he having a bigger impact on his team than Lebron? If Kobe and Lebron switched places, would Cleveland be as good? Would the Lakers? I'm interested in opinions on this.
  12. I agree with a lot of the criticisms people have for this but this one is just stupid. People can't love more than one kind of music? Well, I was using that example more to illustrate how hipster-focus tested parts of the movie felt, and that the same forces that homogenize high-profile releases into bland, inoffensive diversions aiming for mass appeal have found a formula that works for the audience of "indie flicks." Though I'm probably reading too far into how disingenuous it was/wasn't. At least I hope I am. I'm with you here. Saying you like early punk, and then not listening to early punk is MAD hipsterish. Seriously. I know people who do just that.
  13. Any time there's a question with an open end like this, the safe bet is to say "of course." There was a time when hundreds of thousands of people would turn out to watch a boxing match... in person, I'm sure at the time, no one was thinking football would become the formidable entity that it has become, so who's to say that wont happen again. That being said, as there are more options for the viewer, the more the market share will be split. We may never see the near complete domination that football now enjoys. Chuck Klosterman wrote about Johnny Carson, saying we will never see another phenomenon like the Johnny Carson Show, because now there are too many options for late night television. The same thing could happen with sports. Maybe not. The question: Will Tracy McGrady ever make it past the first round of the playoffs as the number one or two guy on a team?
  14. Im a huge Oregon apologist and those are just... just awful. It looks like it was made with black t-shirts, scissors and electrical tape.
  15. So I moved to LA a few months ago to pursue a career in comedy. I've been doing stand-up, and it's been going rad*, furthermore, it has lead me to a job writing sketches for a website, www.gopotato.tv. I hadn't heard of it, but I've seen some of the videos they do. Anyway, my first video was just produced, and it's kind of a movie. A five minute movie... so I'm posting it here. Check it out, and let me know what you think. I know it isn't perfect, I wrote it and handed it off to the director and then my input was sort of limited, so there was a little improvising that I'm not completely stoked* on, but still... feel free to let the criticism and commentation** fly. * I don't usually use words like "rad" and "stoked" ** Is this a word? It can't be. It stays anyway.
  16. I'd love to see this concert.
  17. FEAR THE ORANGE JEWS AND MARCUS CAMBY'S MIGHTY HAND Whens the playoffs?
  18. Worst! Best! I think my opinion is atypical. So let the question carry.
  19. Since you live around New York City/New Jersey, I think the YES Network generally provides committed baseball coverage. Regional sport networks are well worth checking out, many have their own half hour news shows with a local tint. Any other opinions? I know you're asking about TV, and I don't have any answers outside of ESPN and Fox Sports, really. I get all the stuff I need out of those two. As far as getting sports information, this very forum has been one of my favorite resources. People know their shit and you get cool gimmicks, like this thread.
  20. I just played The Comedy Store's main stage. Opened for Bobby Lee. Fun as hell.

    Smell Yo Dick

If this song is a joke, it's genius.
  22. If Sheed had Michael Jordan's drive and determination he would be the greatest power forward ever maybe. If MJ had Sheed's drive he would be J.R. Rider. Hahaha, well put.
  23. Chuck Howley has a good claim. MVP of Super Bowl V, on the losing team. Intercepted two passes, recovered a fumble. Which professional athlete who isn't a boxer would make the best boxer? Why? Maybe pick a few for the different weight classes.
  24. George Wilson Won an NFL Championship with the Lions in his first year of coaching in 1957, then posted 4 winning records over the next 11 seasons, including a pitiful final four years with the Dolphins (a .278 winning percentage). Q: Name (and make a case for) someone you believe should be in a Hall of Fame that has nearly no chance of making it in reality. So heres how I look at it, and I'm going to list both guys because I don't think either is going to get in. I think you either have to let in Mark McGwire or Jose' Canseco. Either you "embrace the darkest kings" and let in the likes of Mark McGwire, or you reject it and put in the guy who was honest about steroids, and helped to shed light on the steroid era, even if he did it to sell books. Anyway, like I said, neither of those guys are getting in, especially Canseco. To answer still fly: I've always thought Joe Montana was overrated. I'm not saying the guy wasn't great. He was great. But he got to play in the West Coast offense when it was big deal hot shit. Maybe he isn't THE most, but he's who came to mind for me. Heres a question, and it's of a sensitive nature, so accept it as purely academic from someone who doesn't know a whole lot about biology. -Jimmy the Greek was scandalized when he contended that black athletes were so dominant and numerous because of breeding during slavery. Every time I've heard someone talk about it, it's always "That ignorant, terrible man! How could he say that?" but it's always struck me as something that could be a valid contention. So... is it at all valid? If not, please explain why, so I can put it to bed.
  25. If its true he WILL be arrested. As of now no charges have been filed, it's one of those precautionary restraining orders. The restraining order will be examined more closely on the 22nd, and I'd imagine that between now and then more details will emerge.
