80's Strike Back

Recommended Posts

I used to think I'd hate the entire 'I Love The 80s' shows, but with this 'Strikes Back' episodes, I fully admit that I love 'em. I was born in '86, but still, a lot of the stuff I remember.

Hal Sparks is God on that show. I especially liked his comment during the 'Heartbeat' song. All of his comments are simply gold, in my opinion, and apparently, the opinion of the majority. Plus, and this is the fangirl talking, Hal Sparks + leather jacket = total Godly hotness.

Michael Ian Black... *shrug* I, for one, think he's pretty funny on the show. But, then again, I'm the resident 'idiot fangirl', thus, my opinion doesn't matter.

Whose the new guy they added? He's the one with his own segment....'Extra Thoughts on...', I think it's called. He's like the demi-god of the show, second, obviously, to God Hal Sparks.

did they even TOUCH Wrestling with Mania?

I find it odd that they have Chris Jericho right there when talking about The Princess Bride and they don't get a comment from him about Andre- he could've made a dig at Rock and say-

"sorry Rocky, best wrestler in a movie is still Andre in the Princess Bride"

they also didn't have him talk about Jesse in Predator, or about WM III in 87.

Ian Black, Sparks and Rocca are T3h 0wnage. Logue is funny too, but he seems to try too hard at times. I couldn't pull off saying all the stuff Ian Black says and keep a straight face like he can.

Also, Henry Rollins OWNED US ALL in the original I  the 80's. They hardly used him at all in these though.

Donal Logue. He's the dad on Grounded for Life, now on the WB.

He's most well-known for being Jimmy the cab driver on MTV though.

Quick thoughts:

Hal Sparks. Funny.

Michael Ian Black: Not funny.

Triumph the Insult Comic Dog: Funny.

The guy from the Daily Show: Not funny.

Wow. I feel the exact opposite about all four guys. I guess I'm just a bigger fan of dry, sarcastic wit than most. And I think Logue tries too hard. That kind of loud, in-your-face humour always gets low marks from me.

Throw me on the "Hal Sparks isn't funny" list too (how is making out with a Rainbow Brite doll funny, anyway?)... he sucked on Talk Soup and he still sucks now. Plus, I like Michael Ian Black as well, so I'm in the minority in this group

As for possible omissions, come on now... can you really compress world events plus musical trends plus fashion trends plus major TV shows plus major theater releases over the course of an entire year into a single hour and do it justice?

Hal Sparks should stick to being a pillow biter on Showtime and stay off my TV

Eh. My favorite Donal Logue role is EASILY Quinn from Blade. "I'm gonna be naughty! I'm gonna be a naughty vampire GOD!"

Oh, and Jericho let me down a bit but he was really just exposition guy. I liked his stuff during the torn jeans segment and the Billy Idol stuff, though.

(on the original I love 1988)

"Don't Worry, Be Happy... I fucking hated that song. I didn't want to be happy. It made me ANGRY."

It's great how they use Henry Rollins...he's always commenting on the happy happy or girly stuff.

Logue is a lot more in your face on this series than he was on the last one. I half thought he was on something when he came into the studio to film his segments. I think he just said to himself that he was going to cut loose and have a good time and not care what they did or didn't use. I do find him to be funny.

If murder was made legal tomorrow, Michael Ian Black would be like 8th on my list of people to gun down. Dry sarcasm is one thing, but when you do it non-stop about every little thing he gets tired and annoying fast. He was even trying to poke fun of stuff that he knew nothing about and that the majority of people said ruled and he looked like an even bigger tool. One thing I do like about Sparks and Rocca in comparison to Black is that they sometimes can do straight commentary and insight and they will admit when they liked or still like something. One thing that totally cracked me up was when Rocca was singing "Poppa Can you Hear Me" to the Snausages jar.

Of the lesser people, I did like Rich Eisen and Jericho. I bet the producers expected to get this wild and crazy wrestler, running everything down and instead they got regular old Chris Irvine. I also think it would have been interesting if they had gone more indepth with people who were big in the eighties like Boy George, David Lee Roth and Debbie Gibson and got their personal takes on their own celebrity at the time. And boy, isn't Debbie Gibson hot now. And who was that other smoking blonde they were talking too? Was that Candace Cameron or one of the Gold sisters?

Yeah. He only went onto the the Chris Jericho "HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE ROCK STAR" voice once, for the Billy Idol thing, and it was for like a split second.

Since it had the other series, it's now 2hrs per year. While not enough to cover a whole year, it does an okay job.

Gah! I knew he sounded familiar! ^_^

He was pretty funny, in my opinion, during that silly "Wave" segment.

Donal Logue was at his best in the "Tao of Steve".

I didn't watch it, but when you say guy from the Daily Show, you talkin' bout Jon Stewart? He's pretty funny.

No...Mo Rocca

Who of course is no longer on The Daily Show.

WTF was Boy George wearing? It must be a sad day when you have to dress that outrageously to try and get a reaction to your dead career on an 80's Remembered show.

I saw clips of him somewhere else and he was dressed like that, so it wasn't just for this show.

It's not like he was some clean cut conservative guy in the 80's. He's just an even more insane version of his 80's self.

I would've liked to have seen a bit more Jericho. He seems to be all over Pop Culture with his knowledge. More Jericho, less Michael Ian Black. He's just not funny. At all.

Even on a tv special, Jericho is held down. Damn VHHH1.

Rich Eisen is funnier then anyone expected, when he was talking about the wave I laughed my ass off.

"Sit the fuck down. I'm trying to watch the game." :D

I think the funniest segment this time around was when they were talking about the Gloria video.

"Yeah, this set is kind of sparse. Go out and get four disco balls, but small ones. We don't want to blow the budget."

Rich Eisen on mermaids was hilarious too.

Michael Ian Black is the Triple H of I Love The 80's always holding down Jericho, Rollins, and Eisen like Trips does with Jericho, RVD, and Booker. Anyways, Rich Eisen is also funny and pretty likeable, and Gilbert Godfried's What The Fuck rules all.

For some reason Doug E. Fresh pisses me off. It's either his voice, his beatboxes, or his name.
