But 2003 was a successful year for Shadows Fall, touring on Ozzfest was key.

Considering they're about as influential to heavy music as Sabbath is, that's something that is UNFORGIVEABLE. As for Shadows Fall not having a groundbreaking album, I agree. But give them time. They're being considered a newer, heavier Metallica, correct? It took three albums for Metallica to become GREAT (and two albums later, they become good, and then average, and now T3H SUX0RZ), so Shadows Fall will hit their peak within the next 5 years after releasing a great album. Innovative? Probably not, since just about everything has been done so far.

Well, you can't sing along to Shadows Fall. That's my only complaint about Shadows Fall...the vocals. Rather ignorant statement, actually. Listen to the choruses of your average Shadows Fall song. VERY sing-along. That's where the BHC (Boston Hardcore) influence comes in huge, as most BHC bands have choruses you can sing (well, scream) along to. Fuck, almost every song by Shadows Fall has some part you can sing along to. Gimme another one. Shadows Fall vocals are very easily understandable. I love them to death, but I think Laz went a little too far by saying that they are better than everything in Judas Priest's catalog. Why wasn't there more love to Swedish metal? No At the gates? Makes me mad.

Brutal death and grind are barely mentioned, Down and Acid Bath aren't there, either. This list completely ignores the past 13 years or so of the genre. Half of the crap on that list isn't even heavy. Twisted Sister? Queersryche? Metallica? Saxon? Please. Either the poll was stupid or else the fans were stupid. That list is vomit. I'd also like to add that the lack of White Zombie, Opeth, and Dream Theater to this list makes me angry, but the lack of Cannibal Corpse and Six Feet Under makes me happy. First of all, my flaming brick is aimed at Angelslayer's Bob Barron mode, so there'll be no gut weaving. Second, I don't know what that "amount of heavy albums that are considered heavy" or whatever the shit, but the genre, all in all, is "heavy metal," so I don't see what you're arguing with. Portrait... was only Manson's breakout album. The band put out a shitload of material before that. Either way, that album has catchy song after catchy song, with a bunch of crunchy good riffs that come together well. White Zombie's in the same boat with me, pretty much. I really dig a couple earlier albums, everything else is just kinda..feh. Butchered at Birth is good, dammit.

The Metallica hate I know for a fact is out there. a bunch of power metal cocksucking... Yes well, like I said in my IMC thread, power metal is to the IMC what technical wrestlers are to the IWC. I thought they picked the best representatives of the genre (IE, BG, Hammerfall) Maiden is the only power metal band I can really stand, I think. Iced Earth has a couple good tracks. Blind Guardian is fucking CRAP, in the same sense that mindless gore metal is crap. Sure, it might be in-depth, and well described like good gore, but it's still mostly about fantasy literature, essentially. The vocals are too girlish for me to listen to. Angela Gossow is more manly than that guy. and Black Sabbath's Mob Rules. Why in the HELL is that on there? That album is terrible... I liked it, myself Good enough to put it on a best of anything list? It might've been ok for Dio-era Sabbath, but it doesn't even graze the corona of any of the Ozzy material. Hell, Dio's done better solo work, I think. The point I was going for is, Why in the hell is this on here, when there's a ton metal albums I can think of that are better. I believe the absence of brutal death comes from the fact that it's a niche audience even for the IMC. The IMC tends to favor melodic death (a la In Flames and the like) to brutal death... What would you have put on here for this category? There's a huge following of Death metal on the net, so that's no excuse. Down Great band, but not top 100 worthy IMO Then you're crazy. The first Down album would be in my tops of the 90's. A beautiful swampy mix of Sabbath and more recent heavy stuff, with all the right people at all the right time. Nola is full of just pure metal riffs that kick ass. If they don't kick your ass, then you have no ass. and Acid Bath aren't there... Who? If there's a metal album of the 90's that I would put over Nola, it would be When The Kite String Pops by these guys. Psychedelic sinister swamp metal, only closer to maybe...The Doors than Black Sabbath. Still heavy as FUCK without being brutal. Everyone who likes metal needs to hear these guys. This list completely ignores the past 13 years or so of the genre. Not completely. They did have IE (though I thought Stormrider should've been on there, but that tends to get overlooked now because it doesn't have Barlow on it), BG, Hammerfall and Death, although those are all bands apparently you don't like. You're right about Blind Guardian and Hammerfall, but I actually like Death quite a bit. Quite frankly I can't think of that many albums from the last 13 years that would stand out over the big albums from the 80's when you would compile such a list The two I previously mentioned, plus Calculating Infinity by Dillinger Escape Plan, Destroy the Opposition, by Dying Fetus, Anthems.., by Emperor, and Whisper Supremacy by Cryptopsy all come to mind. Maybe it's just me, but I'd pick any of those over half of that list. Sure, they're newer, but that doesn't mean they're not good. There's been some great metal and hardcore to come out in just the last 5 years. I've seen people out there argue about TS' place in metal history. I'm still not sure myself Hair bands=pop music, not heavy metal, but that's just my take. (re: Queensryche) Influential intelligent metal. At a time when most metal bands were either singing about partying or mystical evil stuff, they wrote heavy metal with intelligent lyrics. Unless the only thing you remember them for is "Silent Lucidity", then I could see your point That is all I remember from them, everything else blended together in this boring prog haze, with stuff that didn't interest me at all. Reason being: "Caught in a Mosh," "Indians," "I Am the Law," "N.F.L.," "Among the Living," and "A Skeleton in the Closet" > than anything on Persistence of Time, except "Got the Time." Persistence of Time still kicks ass, though.
