Reverb Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Janet Jackson and Metallica had their special and Aerosmith has their's recorded. According to you, who should get their own MTV icon special? As far as I'm concerned, Michael Jackson should get his, Run-DMC should get theirs. So far they're the only ones I see.
Red Baron Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Iron Maiden. In all seriousness, Michael Jackson for sure
Nevermortal Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 I'd say Nirvana, but they obviously can't get up and do the customary live performance. Madonna. No question.
1234-5678 Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 You know where my vote lies. Guns N Roses. Only have the new GNR, and Velvet Revolver both perform at the end, since having Axl and the new band taking all the credit would just be ridiculous.
spiny norman Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 I agree with NM. Nobody deserves it more than Madonna. Maybe Michael Jackson, but she's influenced more artists I would say.
Youth N Asia Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 REM We had this thread a year or so ago. I think Run DMC was the overall pick.
2GOLD Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Tom Jones You can never go wrong with Tom Jones
B. Brian Brunzell Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Madonna, Prince, or U2. One of those three for sure.
Sonic Reducer Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Nobody. That show sucks. Nobody managed to do justice to even one Metallica song when they covered it on the last Icon. Ugh. UGH. No more Icon.
EricMM Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Thats why they can do Madonna or RunDMC where today's hot pop acts don't have to actually play instruments.
1234-5678 Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Nobody. That show sucks. Nobody managed to do justice to even one Metallica song when they covered it on the last Icon. Ugh. UGH. No more Icon. I thought the Korn version of "One" wasn't too bad. Avril's "Fuel" however, was just fucking awful. And Lars looking like a geek pounding his feet and shaking his head to every song just ruined what could have at least been an average show. What a fucking tool.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Madonna, good choice. I'd get behind Run-DMC but I think they'd be more likely as far as rap acts go - and perhaps not out-of-line - to go with Dr. Dre.
Youth N Asia Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Avril's "Fuel" however, was just fucking awful. Yeah, I know MTV has to rush out their current stars, but that just didn't make any kind of sense.
Lando Griffin Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 I didn't see Avril doing "Fuel". Was it as bad as Shakira doing "Dude Looks Like A Lady"?
Guest Choken One Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Isn't it Raps turn? So that means it's either Run DMC or Dre. Doesn't Dre have a new album coming out next year? That seems to be a part of the MTVICON rules...The "icon" must have an upcoming album.
Reverb Posted December 31, 2003 Author Report Posted December 31, 2003 I didn't see Avril doing "Fuel". Was it as bad as Shakira doing "Dude Looks Like A Lady"? To be polite, I'd say that it wasn't that good. To be realistic, I'd say that it was awful.
Youth N Asia Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Her band could almost handle the music (as I remember)...but she just didn't have anything close to the voice to carry it.
snuffbox Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 i liked avril's version better than 'tallica's
razazteca Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 LL Cool J, I want to see Kid Rock do an accoustic version of Mama Said Knocked You Out.
Red Baron Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 Actually Avril cover of Fuel was the best song out of all the bands that covered Metallica songs
jimmy no nose Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 They're doing Motley Crue in February 2005 is what their official website said. I like it, but there are a lot of others who had a much bigger impact on MTV, many of them listed already in this thread.

Perfxion Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 Dr. Dre, Madonna, or LL Cool J since they will have CDs out by the next time MTV does an ICON show. Run DMC, REM, Michael Jackson or Prince since they have that status of ICON. But only maybe Prince will have a new CD out by then.
razazteca Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 Actually Avril cover of Fuel was the best song out of all the bands that covered Metallica songs Korn's version of One was the best song of the night.
2GOLD Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 Actually Avril cover of Fuel was the best song out of all the bands that covered Metallica songs Korn's version of One was the best song of the night. Considering the song sucked and wasn't even the full song, that's not saying much. Must be nice being the worse of the bunch. What am I saying? Jim Brewer's unfunny self outdid that crap Korn tried to pass off as One.

Oh, that Nikki, always looking for a little attention.
