CanadianChick Posted January 25, 2004 Report Posted January 25, 2004 Recently bought: Blessed Hellride-Black Label Society Coral Fang-Distillers Fallen-Evanecencse Greatest Hits-No Doubt Big Shiny 90's, volume 2-Various artists (Canadians will know what this is) Blessed Hellride and Coral Fang are both great. Fallen is pretty good, but I'm not sure if it was worth the buy or not. I'm a huge No Doubt mark at heart, so of course I loved their greatest hits. And the Big Shiny 90's is an awesome CD.
Corey_Lazarus Posted January 25, 2004 Author Report Posted January 25, 2004 Chick, save yourself the anguish and sell the Evanescense CD back. Instead, buy an album by the two bands that Evanescense shamelessly ripped off: Lacuna Coil and The Gathering.
Henry Spencer Posted January 25, 2004 Report Posted January 25, 2004 I just bought Public Enemy's Yo! Bum Rush The Show from the ultra cheap bargain bin at the mall. Two bucks.
PLAGIARISM! Posted January 25, 2004 Report Posted January 25, 2004 I've been meaning to check out Mercyful Fate and King Diamond as well actually. I'm sure Agent can recommend me some kick ass stuff.
ArkhamGlobe Posted January 25, 2004 Report Posted January 25, 2004 The last album I bought was Mambo Sinuendo by Ry Cooder and Manuel Galban. Within the next week I'll probably order me some Can and Popol Vuh (I'm thinking about getting Tago Mago and Einsjager und Siebenjager, any recommendations?).
Mrnoitaull Posted January 25, 2004 Report Posted January 25, 2004 Day before yesterday I picked up Aphex Twin's "26 mixes for cash" and DJ Krush's "Message at the depth" both of which aren't too shabby.
Youth N Asia Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 Chick, save yourself the anguish and sell the Evanescense CD back Yeah, or you could listen to it and form your own opinion.
Spicy McHaggis Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 Outkast "Speakerbox"-- Andre is amazing. DMB "Central Park"-- 3+ hours of Dave, nuff said. Best of Ottmar Liebert-- Spanish guitar (instrumental) music. This guy pioneered the modern-day Nouveau Flamenco. His cover of Kashmir is pretty cool.
Corey_Lazarus Posted January 26, 2004 Author Report Posted January 26, 2004 Well, YNA, look at it like this: Why settle for a second-rate, dumbed-down cracka wannabe goth rock band with a hot female singer, when you can have the two goth-ish bands with hot female singers that they ripped off? That'd be like buying a a fake Rolex for more money than a real one.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 Yeah. Plus, the Gathering rules. Strangely hypnotic business there.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 The last album I bought was Mambo Sinuendo by Ry Cooder and Manuel Galban. Within the next week I'll probably order me some Can and Popol Vuh (I'm thinking about getting Tago Mago and Einsjager und Siebenjager, any recommendations?). For Can, I prefer Ege Bamyasi, but Tago Mago is awesome, too, so either way you win. Can't help you with Popol Vuh.
Cuban Linx Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 Type O Negative's October Rust, adding to the list of CD's i own that i haven't had a chance to listen to in full yet.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 I've been meaning to check out Mercyful Fate and King Diamond as well actually. I'm sure Agent can recommend me some kick ass stuff. Why choose? Just get it all.
PLAGIARISM! Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 I've been meaning to check out Mercyful Fate and King Diamond as well actually. I'm sure Agent can recommend me some kick ass stuff. Why choose? Just get it all. Aww, I was hoping for an inspired rant about how King Diamond was castrated and then had his balls sewed to his head or whatever it was last time. You still hate him, right?
godthedog Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 even more john coltrane: 'first meditations' (i've read it referred to a lot as the spiritual sequel to 'a love supreme' & that sounds about right: more really beautiful, melodic stuff, but more mournful and intense. but yeah, love it. can't wait to get 'meditations' and compare the two.) peter brotzmann octet: 'machine-gun' (holy shit is this thing fucked up. more thoughts later, possibly.)
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 Vinyl purchases Miles - Sketches of Spains Coltrane - Blue Train I have a keen eye on Brubek's Time Out too.
Red Baron Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 I've been meaning to check out Mercyful Fate and King Diamond as well actually. I'm sure Agent can recommend me some kick ass stuff. Why choose? Just get it all. Aww, I was hoping for an inspired rant about how King Diamond was castrated and then had his balls sewed to his head or whatever it was last time. You still hate him, right? I was expecting that too. Anyways just bought The Cure: Disintegration
BX Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 Kyuss "Welcome to Sky Valley", and "...The Circus Leaves Town" Screaming Trees "Uncle Anesthesia", and another one I can't remember at the moment.
Henry Spencer Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 Just copped about an hour or so ago from that ultra reliable longtime friend of mine, the ultra cheap one dollar bin at Best Buy: The New Pornographers - Electric Version Elvis Costello & Burt Bacharach - Painted From Memory Jeff Buckley - Mystery White Boy Tears For Fears - Songs From The Big Chair Sly & The Family Stone - Greatest Hits Red House Painters - Old Ramon Bob Dylan - The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan (I was fucking stoked to see this, as my old copy had recently been lost) Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick Quite a fucking haul, and only a dollar, too.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 If I were to degrade King Diamond as often as I'd like, I wouldn't have time for things like drugs and girls and musicians that don't wear make up and record a thousand albums that suck with silly hidden meanings that are meant for only the most devout jackoff who spends each and ever dime on... see what I mean?
Skywarp! Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 I broke my "Love Below" so I had to repurchase Outkast -- Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.
Spicy McHaggis Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 I broke my "Love Below" so I had to repurchase Outkast -- Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. Dude, fuck buying CD's... if you broke your "Love Below", you need to get to a doctor, ASAP.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 Just copped about an hour or so ago from that ultra reliable longtime friend of mine, the ultra cheap one dollar bin at Best Buy: The New Pornographers - Electric Version Elvis Costello & Burt Bacharach - Painted From Memory Jeff Buckley - Mystery White Boy Tears For Fears - Songs From The Big Chair Sly & The Family Stone - Greatest Hits Red House Painters - Old Ramon Bob Dylan - The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan (I was fucking stoked to see this, as my old copy had recently been lost) Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick Quite a fucking haul, and only a dollar, too. The hell? Where is your Best Buy, and why have I never seen this promise land?
Henry Spencer Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 In Overland Park. They bought out a bunch of local used CD shops and put their entire stocks into a gigantic bin and are selling them off for a dollar or so each. I don't know how much longer the good stuff is gonna last, though, so I'm going back again this weekend.
Slayer Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 Re: Mercyful Fate and King Diamond recommendations MF: Melissa Don't Break the Oath Time KD: Abigail Them Conspiracy Puppet Master Re: The Gathering Mandylion and Nighttime Birds are high recommendations. I can't stand anything from How to Measure a Planet onward though, when they decided they wanted to sound more like Garbage (the band, not the adjective). Plus, while she was a good singer on the first two CDs, I find Anneke to be overrated in the metal community (both in voice and looks) Give me Nightwish any day In Overland Park. Another Kansan? I thought I was the only one
Henry Spencer Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 You're not the only one. At least for another two years.

PLAGIARISM! Sounds about right.
