Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2006 LMDOB is everything that's great about TMR, in about half the time. It hasn't been in print on cd since the late 80s, for whatever reason. Finding it on vinyl (which is what I have) isn't hard if you know where to look.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2006 The last 5 albums I've bought were... The Black Dahlia Murder - Unhallowed I have no idea how I'd gone so long without owning this album. It's, quite possibly, the best death metal release on a major (metal) label in fucking forever. Nearly perfect from start to finish. I hate seeing bands live before owning an album, but seeing them at SotU is what MADE me go out and get this. That and my growing affinity for "Funeral Thirst" and need to hear "Thy Cosmic Horror" that my friends cream themselves over. The Black Dahlia Murder - Miasma Just got it today, but I've heard "A Vulgar Picture" and the title track before, and I dug 'em both. Can't wait to give it a full listen. Nevermore - This Godless Endeavour After the disappointment of Enemies of Reality, this is amazing. I'd say it ranks up there with Dead Heart... if not just below it. Definitely one of the band's best albums, and I wish they released more than just "Final Product" as a single. It's the worst song on the album. Dead Kennedys - Give Me Convenience OR Give Me Death Love it. I either already had quite a few of the tracks downloaded or heard 'em through a couple of my friends, and "California Uber Alles" is a song everybody knows, but...man. Jello's story on the track "Night of the Living Rednecks" is hilarious, if not because of how truthful it likely is than because of his constantly heckling of the guitarist to fix his broken guitar. Strapping Young Lad - The New Black Decent. I like a few of the songs, and the studio version of "Far Beyond Metal" is dece (I prefer the live version off No Sleep 'Til Bedtime, though), but ultimately a disappointment over how great Alien was. The album definitely has some highlights, with the last three tracks, the "untitled" track (it's name space is left blank on the case, but the billfold titles it as "Fucker," which is as fitting a name for it as any), and "You Suck" being standouts. Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2006 Hell yes. I actually bought God Hates Us All about a month after seeing Unholy Alliance, and with all the hype Christ Illusion was getting as a "return to the roots" album, I was ready for a piece of shit. I was pleasantly fucking surprised. It sounds, pretty much, like it was written and recorded sometime between Reign in Blood and Divine Intervention, which is - arguably - the thrashiest Slayer's ever been. I like it a lot. I don't like it nearly as much as the Unholy Trinity of Slayer albums (Reign, South, and Seasons), but it's a good follow-up to them. Much better than Divine and God are. I won't even mention that dreadful abomination Diabolous in Musica...shit, I just did.

Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2006 Watch Them Die - Bastard Son Alright listen thus far. The title track I heard via OnDemand, and it's pretty decent metal (like a combination of Iron Maiden, Sepultura, and Bathory, actually), but I haven't given the disc a full listen yet. Acid Bath - When The Kite String Pops I've been putting off getting this album for years. I heard "13 Fingers" via rec by Agent when I was 15 or 16 and got hooked, and downloaded Acid Bath whenever I could. I had about 5 tracks of theirs, since everything else I downloaded was of poor quality (I mean actual quality, not the music), and it's been impossible to find this album in stores (the only place that I've found it in, Newbury Comics in North Attleboro, had only a collection of demo's). Can't wait to give it a full-on listen, as I love "Cheap Vodka," "What Color Is Death," and "Scream of the Butterfly." Kataklysm - In the Arms of Devastation FUCKING. BRUTAL. 'Nuff said. Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2006 Mastodon - Blood Mountain Read my review for Blood Mountain in the "Comments that don't warrant a thread" thread. Everything that can be said without giving a track-by-track review is. All you need to know is that the final grade is an A (94-96/100). Wednesday 13 - Fang Bang This album is a solid outing, though not as good as his solo debut Transylvania 90210 two years ago. If you've never heard of Wednesday 13, he is the former singer of both Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13 and The Murderdolls (yes, the side project of Slipknot where Joey Jordison played guitar). He plays enjoyable rock n' roll with an extremely overt horror theme (just about every song title on Fang Bang is a pun, changing one word of a popular phrase into something morbid, ie. the opening track "Morgue Than Words" and "Home Sweet Homicide," etc.) that borderlines on 80's hair metal and Walk Among Us-era Misfits. Overall, I'll say it's about a C+, not as good as Transylvania 90210 (which I'll give a B+), but better than most sophomore solo efforts.

Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2006 Ahem...Rock and Shock Festival this past weekend, where I picked up 3 CDs, and I grabbed a couple CDs I've been putting off getting for far too long Friday. Sepultura - Roots A classic Sepultura album, but then again all of the Max-era ones are. Not as strong as Chaos AD, but a fun listen nonetheless. Simple riffs, easy to see why so many nu-metal acts listed Sepultura as an influence, but they're heavy and catchy as hell. Not a day goes by that I don't randomly break out into "Roots Bloody Roots," and I'm fucking serious. Cannibal Corpse - Tomb of the Mutilated In truth, this is my first full Corpse album. I have the Worm Infested EP which I bought for the "No Remorse" cover (which owns seven different kinds of ass), and now...I like. A classic death metal album, and one of Corpse's best as I've been told, and it's just enjoyable gore throughout. Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV soundtrack Although it lacks the fine production and the varied punch of the Tromeo soundtrack, it's enjoyable nonetheless. The use of the songs in the movie are perfect, and when I recognize a song, it makes me think of that particular part in the film. In between each track is one or two clips from the film, but unlike the Tromeo soundtrack where the quotes came at the end of each song (which was a nice touch), these are stand-alone tracks and make the time between songs seem longer than it really is. Death - Leprosy The only Death album I'd heard before this was The Sounds of Perseverance, which is a little too progressive and not heavy enough for my liking. I'd heard that older Death was much more straightforward death metal, which is what I prefer these days, and...it's good. VERY good. While I can't say that other bands since Death's early work haven't done the style a little better, I can definitely say that if you were to play these songs to somebody unfamiliar with the band they'd think they were new. Whether that says that Death is still fresh enough to take a nearly 20-year-old album and have it sound brand new or that death metal hasn't changed at all in 20 years is up to you. Amputated - Gargling With Infected Semen This is my prize pick of the weekend. Grind mixed with a decent batch of brutal death and will gore and porn lyrics. It's fucking hilarious, and even my girlfriend loves it (and she's usually only into melodic metal). The billfold is filled with pictures of porn acts (including milk enemas and scat) and...children with Down Syndrome. The vocals leave much to be desired as they sound like little more than a frog doing a poor Chris Barnes impression, but the music is about on par with Skinless. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 17, 2006 That Death cd is really really good, actually. Very raw in approach, it still rips out the super-technical solos that make Death Death. Combines the best things about early Slayer and early Sepultura.
