Recently bought:

Blessed Hellride-Black Label Society

Coral Fang-Distillers

Fallen-Evanecencse

Greatest Hits-No Doubt

Big Shiny 90's, volume 2-Various artists (Canadians will know what this is)

Blessed Hellride and Coral Fang are both great. Fallen is pretty good, but I'm not sure if it was worth the buy or not. I'm a huge No Doubt mark at heart, so of course I loved their greatest hits. And the Big Shiny 90's is an awesome CD.

Chick, save yourself the anguish and sell the Evanescense CD back. Instead, buy an album by the two bands that Evanescense shamelessly ripped off: Lacuna Coil and The Gathering.

The last album I bought was Mambo Sinuendo by Ry Cooder and Manuel Galban. Within the next week I'll probably order me some Can and Popol Vuh (I'm thinking about getting Tago Mago and Einsjager und Siebenjager, any recommendations?).

Outkast "Speakerbox"-- Andre is amazing.

DMB "Central Park"-- 3+ hours of Dave, nuff said.

Best of Ottmar Liebert-- Spanish guitar (instrumental) music. This guy pioneered the modern-day Nouveau Flamenco. His cover of Kashmir is pretty cool.

Well, YNA, look at it like this:

Why settle for a second-rate, dumbed-down cracka wannabe goth rock band with a hot female singer, when you can have the two goth-ish bands with hot female singers that they ripped off?

That'd be like buying a a fake Rolex for more money than a real one.

For Can, I prefer Ege Bamyasi, but Tago Mago is awesome, too, so either way you win. Can't help you with Popol Vuh.

Guest Agent of Oblivion
I've been meaning to check out Mercyful Fate and King Diamond as well actually. I'm sure Agent can recommend me some kick ass stuff.

Why choose? Just get it all.

Aww, I was hoping for an inspired rant about how King Diamond was castrated and then had his balls sewed to his head or whatever it was last time. You still hate him, right?

even more john coltrane: 'first meditations' (i've read it referred to a lot as the spiritual sequel to 'a love supreme' & that sounds about right: more really beautiful, melodic stuff, but more mournful and intense. but yeah, love it. can't wait to get 'meditations' and compare the two.)

peter brotzmann octet: 'machine-gun' (holy shit is this thing fucked up. more thoughts later, possibly.)

I was expecting that too.

Just copped about an hour or so ago from that ultra reliable longtime friend of mine, the ultra cheap one dollar bin at Best Buy:

The New Pornographers - Electric Version

Elvis Costello & Burt Bacharach - Painted From Memory

Jeff Buckley - Mystery White Boy

Tears For Fears - Songs From The Big Chair

Sly & The Family Stone - Greatest Hits

Red House Painters - Old Ramon

Bob Dylan - The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan (I was fucking stoked to see this, as my old copy had recently been lost)

Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick

Quite a fucking haul, and only a dollar, too.

If I were to degrade King Diamond as often as I'd like, I wouldn't have time for things like drugs and girls and musicians that don't wear make up and record a thousand albums that suck with silly hidden meanings that are meant for only the most devout jackoff who spends each and ever dime on...

see what I mean?

In Overland Park. They bought out a bunch of local used CD shops and put their entire stocks into a gigantic bin and are selling them off for a dollar or so each. I don't know how much longer the good stuff is gonna last, though, so I'm going back again this weekend.

Re: Mercyful Fate and King Diamond recommendations

MF:

Melissa

Don't Break the Oath

Time

KD:

Abigail

Them

Conspiracy

Puppet Master

Re: The Gathering

Mandylion and Nighttime Birds are high recommendations. I can't stand anything from How to Measure a Planet onward though, when they decided they wanted to sound more like Garbage (the band, not the adjective). Plus, while she was a good singer on the first two CDs, I find Anneke to be overrated in the metal community (both in voice and looks)

Give me Nightwish any day

In Overland Park.

Another Kansan? I thought I was the only one
