HOORENCANRANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone else who hated him post what you hated about him. So I'm assuming you prefer JR's "OMG IT'S A SLOBBERKNOCKER!!!" or King's "OMG A WOMEN WITH BREASTS!!!" Joey Styles is a great announcer and I'd take him in a second over the current and very stale WWE announce teams.
TheBigSwigg 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 I'm a huge mark for Styles. He knows what he's talking about (beats Schiavone after 95), stays fairly unbiased (beats JR), and gets into the matches just enough without getting involved. (I'd take a shot at Tenay, but I'm in a good mood.)
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 I liked Joey. He could make Nova vs EZ Money sound like a world title match. Although he way overshilled and just tried to hard most of the time.

Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted April 23, 2004 Joey called every powerbomb type move a tiger bomb, a move that technically doesn't exist.

Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 Joey Styles is rather overrated, really. Watching a match with him on commentary feels like playing WWF Attitude and hearing a random comment from the announcers every ten seconds. He was okay in ECW, but I listened to him doing commentary on a MLW match and it was terrible.
Phoenix Fury Legdrop 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 To me, it seems like Joey saw one All Japan tape from 1995, and relied on it for all of his wrestling knowledge.

No way, because then he would have called every move a variation of the "Tiger Driver" imstead of "Tiger Bomb" ......or maybe not, considering it's all in JAPANESE!!!!!!! Scroby 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2004 I always like Joey Styles but not like his early stuff when he was just a one man annoucer in like the early stages of ECW. But I started liking him more a lot better when he wouldn't over do the "oh my God!" stuff. Also I liked him for the fact that he could keep up with a lot of the fast matches they had there. As for the WWE, I don't think Joey could fit in there because he really isn't that great, he's decent but great, with slow type of matches, which is what WWE matches really are now. Slingshot Suplex 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2004 I generally liked Styles but then the "Ohhhh My Goddd" stuff became cliched and he overdid it. I hated Callis in the booth with him though. All Callis did was add "Tremendous,Joey Styles!"" to the announcing and say shit to irritate Styles. Every time Callis would begin a ppv by removing Gertner, I would cringe because I knew the announcing went right down the fucking toilet for that show. I'm not sure how to name that, but forget Vince McMahon and Eric Bischoff, because "Whattamaneuver" isn't gonna cut it this time!!" Classic. Styles was a pretty solid announcer...the 'Oh My God' got cliched, but that was to be expected I guess once the fans caught on. He was humourous and could carry a whole event commentating on his own, which is probably pretty damn hard. Oh, and he'd call the action. Shock horror. Steviekick 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2004 Callis and Styles were great together. I loved how Callis would just ding at him the whole time and challenge everything Styles said.

Steviekick 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2004 Yeah. Callis worked too hard shilling that whole angle. It's just a shame that they actually went with that as long as they did.
