Cheex Incarnate Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 I've recently seen some old WCW vignettes just confused me. It was called Raven's day off or something like that, with all these weird cameos from Kanyon and Chastity and someone who i think is Sandman. Towards the end they are reminiscing over some photo of Roddy Piper. So i guess my question is, what was the fucking point WCW was trying to make with these skits? was it a new gimmick for Raven that was dropped or something? little help? -Cheex
Guest Black Lightning Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Didn't he take Kanyon to a Versace store in one of them? If I'm thinking of the same thing you are, I think what they wanted to get across was that Raven was a spoiled rich kid who didn't deserve any sympathy from anyone, despite his constant 'whinings.' Or something along those lines.
Guest netslob Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 i remember that stuff. i think it was basically to show that Raven came from a rich family, and resented them or something, and he was an ungrateful spoiled brat. Chastity was supposed to be his sister, and Sandman was his friend "Jim". they even hired a woman to play his mother (his 'father' was never shown...i remember in is ECW days him talking about how his father beat him up alot as a child, so that may be a factor). as for the Piper thing, i think they were going to lead into a feud between him and Raven, as i think they were alluding that Piper was Raven's childhood hero, but like alot of WCW angles, it never went anywhere.
Steviekick Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 I thought that the best part of the whole thing is that when Raven came back after all these promos trying to make him look like a snob, and he came back with face heat.
Placebo Effect Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Yeah, that angle went NOWHERE. What an utter failure. Rave, though, loved that period of his life if I remember correctly. I think he got clean at that time, and was getting paid very well to sit around and film the occasional video. And yes, Kanyon and Raven did go to the Versace store, and the cameraman walked in on Kanyon when he was in his boxers.
Steviekick Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 I kind of wondered whose house they shot the vignettes at.
Placebo Effect Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 I kind of wondered whose house they shot the vignettes at. This is WCW you're talking about. You know they rented a house, hired a caterer, brought in a twenty-five person crew, etc.
Guest Choken One Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Raven always made it sound like he controled the filming of the vignettes. I loved when Raven/Disco booked Nitro.
Guest Choken One Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 I love how Kanyon went from being Raven's Flunky to Pages Flunky to Austin's Flunky.
Placebo Effect Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 I love how Kanyon went from being Raven's Flunky to Pages Flunky to Austin's Flunky. And a brief period where he was Russo's flunky, before, of course, becoming Positively Page. BANG!
1234-5678 Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 I thought the Raven skits were hilarious. "I thought you were depressed?"----Kanyon "How can you be depressed when you have a car like this?"---Raven Also, I remember that Hak/Sandman/Jim came across as pretty gay in the vignettes he was in.
JHawk Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 as for the Piper thing, i think they were going to lead into a feud between him and Raven, as i think they were alluding that Piper was Raven's childhood hero, but like alot of WCW angles, it never went anywhere. Piper said in his RF shoot interview (which I bought before RF was officially outed as a scumbag) that he was supposed to do a program with Raven before management vetoed it. Apparently Raven thought it was Piper who changed his mind. Who the hell really knows with WCW though?
The C Man Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Someone mentioned Positively Kanyon. BANG! Someone should definately start a topic solely about Positively Kanyon. Hell Kanyon was better at Page than Page was. Anyone remember the Judy Bagwell on a forklift match?
NoCalMike Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 From what I remember reading AT THE TIME, it was Hogan who didn't like the vigenettes/angle, and everyone knows that during that time in WCW, what Hogan wanted, Hogan got. The Raven skits were actually one of the more interesting things going on at the time. The best part of the skit at the house was how they totally made it b-movieish. When Sandman slapped Kanyon on the back, Kanyon had the cheesiest look on his face, and did the delayed reaction before flipping into the pool. It was CLASSIQUE.........Someone find me that skit on the net.
Spaceman Spiff Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 I'll go on record as saying those segments were fantastic, too. Such a shame it had to get killed. Plus, I had a little thing for Chastity, which didn't hurt.
Boner Kawanger Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 WCW was supposedly in talks with NBC to do a special to go up against either St. Valentine's Day Massacre or WrestleMania XV. Raven versus Piper for the US Title was one of the matches on the rumored card that was going to be main evented by (I think) Hogan/Goldberg II.
Scroby Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 Raven was one of the best things that WCW always had going even through WCW was mainly focused on th nWo and the WCW vs nWo war, but the Raven stuff was always so good.
nl5xsk1 Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 I'll go on record as saying those segments were fantastic, too. Such a shame it had to get killed. Plus, I had a little thing for Chastity, which didn't hurt. Good to hear that I wasn't the only one that felt the Chastity-love. Question, though: did seeing her in that porno increase or decrease your feelings for her?
Spaceman Spiff Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 I don't believe I ever saw that porno.
NoCalMike Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 I don't believe I ever saw that porno. Neither did I, someone hook up the link......... Oh yeah and the Raven skits were SUPPOSED to set up a Raven/Piper program, but it got nixed.
DokDoyle Posted July 20, 2004 Report Posted July 20, 2004 WCW was supposedly in talks with NBC to do a special to go up against either St. Valentine's Day Massacre or WrestleMania XV. Raven versus Piper for the US Title was one of the matches on the rumored card that was going to be main evented by (I think) Hogan/Goldberg II. I don't think it was going to be up against a PPV, I think NBC were going to use WCW to fill time left open by the NBA labour shutdown. Once the NBA came back, there was no need for WCW on NBC.
