Vern Gagne Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 Was that Mariotti or Frank Stallone in that picture?
cabbageboy Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 The thing about the Sports Reporters is that Saunders now has no ability to reign in the excesses of his guys. Schaap reigned this stuff in a bit and gave the show a vestige of quality. Saunders has also turned the show into a constant race baiting program (Wilbon does race baiting, but you get the feeling he's only half serious...Saunders is dead serious). It's also a little bizarre to hear a black Canadian rail against racism...I mean how much racism is there in Canada? Maybe a little but hardly anything compared to the U.S.
Slayer Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 Was that Mariotti or Frank Stallone in that picture? How dare you insult your lord and master
B. Brian Brunzell Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 Kornheiser has fully assumed the "loud old man" role and just about played it out. Kornheiser's been playing that role for years now. When he had a regular column for ESPN: The Magazine, he was funny, but you could tell he was just screaming the shit out as he wrote. I don't care for I, Max at all, and would much rather see Holley dominate on ATH. Anything's better than Blackistone. But Woody's back now, so the insanity level of the show has risen once again. And that's just fine with me.
Star Ocean 3 Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 I don't care about sports so much. I,Max is the funniest, so it wins.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 That type of viewer is exactly why these shows suck.
Star Ocean 3 Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 I guess that's tough nuggets for you, hoser.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Perhaps, but at lease I didn't waste a half hour today watching I, Max.
cabbageboy Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Here's one thing in particular about I, Max that I don't care for. No matter who the guest is on the show Max NEVER wins, even when he actually has the stronger segment. Like today, he certainly got the better of Jack Del Rio yet Bill Wolff gave the point to the World. Is there an unwritten agreement that the guest HAS to get the point in order to get anyone to come on the show?
razazteca Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Max Kellerman is the whole f'n show...
Dangerous A Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 I TiVo ATH and PTI and usually like what I see. I do have some gripes with the shows though. IMax is terrible. Kellerman is awful, but the person I hate the most is the guy who determines the outcome between Kellerman and Holley. If that guy lost an eye, I wouldn't be sad. As for ATH, I like it the most of the 3 believe it or not. I do find Bill Platchke to be very annoying (and quite often wrong) and Jay Marriotti comes off like such a sports elitist it makes me sick. Sports Elitism is my main gripe with PTI. Wilbon is good, minus the race talk, but Kornheiser now annoys me. I used to like him, but when he takes a different stance on something just to be different, you can usually see his arguments being pulled out of his ass. Plus, I'm a big MMA fan and both men have admitted being ignoramus's about it and continue to bash it for it's so called "barbarism", yet will harp on all day about boxing, which is just as barbaric in terms of violence in a sport.
Jericholic82 Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 Max is my hero, I love how he plays the overbearing New Yorker stereotype to the max (oh im sorry for that pun) And besides someone has to stick up for NY instead of calling it evil. I agree about Bill Wolf he needs to be beaten up and tied up with michael and thrown into the east river lol BTW anyone herethink Michael Holley looks like a woman?, I was watching I max last night and my mom came into the room and thought he was a lady. I just started cracking up and now I will never be able to watch the show without laughing again But honestly I liked The old ATH better then even imax and PTI is pretty good for the most part
cabbageboy Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 Oh, my brother and friends all think Michael Holley is a flamer for sure. So it isn't shocking that someone would think he looked like a woman. The goofy thing is that EVERY show has an overbearing New Yorker who loves anything with the Yankees and all that. And most shows have a Boston guy or Chicago guy. Where's the love for, I dunno, St. Louis for instance?
Jericholic82 Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 how about a rabid saints fan or somethin? that would be different I agree cabbage most shows have stereotypical "regional" guys on them best line ever "Micahael Holley looks likea pre-pubescent Arsenio Hall" (or somethin to that nature-last week on I, Max)
Guest Smues Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 Heard on Kornheiser's radio show this morning that I,Max was cancelled and then I found confirmation here. (It's at the very bottom of the article. ) What will Fox Sports show now? All I ever see when I flip by that channel is I,Max, The best damn sports show period, a game, or there list shows. That's it. I swear they must air 4 hours of I,Max a day.
Youth N Asia Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 I watch PTI every now and then. But I can't watch Kellerman, he just doesn't seem to know as much about sports as he likes to think he does. Very annoying.
razazteca Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 Darn I, Max was getting after they got rid of the point system too. Was Max Kellerman fired by Fox Sports Net or will he just move on to another show such as take his rightful place on The Best Darn Sports Show Period as a member of the panel?
Mole Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 I thought I, Max was cancelled a few months ago, since I never see it anymore. And good, Max sucks anyway. He knows nothing about sports, just boxing which sucks anyway.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 Good, that's what they get for pushing Michael Holley and Voice into smaller and smaller segments so Max could have more of the show to himself. Now they just need to axe Best Damned and Fox Sports might be watchable.
The Czech Republic Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 So I made a typo, get over it. But if there were I would hate them all equally. Mik was anal about my jokes back in September too
Mik Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 I think it all has to do with the Cubs/Marlins.
cabbageboy Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 It is funny that my interest in the show ceased once Holley was shunted to essentially a cameo. It also was bad that Max kept trashing him constantly on how bad he was on a show. I can't say I'm that sad.
Bruiser Chong Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 I like Max, but the show also felt like a bush league production. I don't always subscribe to the more is better theory, but having only three guys on the show, one of which wasn't even technically a participant, just didn't cut it. ATH is still my sports show. Say what you will, but I find it to be not only informative at times (keeping up with current sports news), but it's genuine entertainment when the right mix of guys are involved.
The Czech Republic Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 Jay Mariotti. I hate the way he's always right. Woody hasn't had any really good moments lately when he just says something really dumb and gets called for it, like "according to the disemboweled voice"
A Happy Medium Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 Meh. I do watch ATH and PTI every now and then. They aren't bad or anything. I like Jay Mariotti. Probably just because I read his work as a kid.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 I'm not reading this whole thread to see if it was put here but it was just announced the other day that I,Max is being canceled. Haha to him
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 People whose voices cause me to change the channel: 1. Stephen A. Smith 2. Jim Rome 3. Max Kellerman
Matt Young Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 I actually liked ATH when Max was on there, but I do like Tony Reali better. I watched I, Max for a while after it first started, but I have barely watched it in the last 6 months and what I have seen hasn't been too good. On the other hand, I've watched Around the Horn and PTI religiously pretty much since they first started. PTI's definitely my favorite, but ATH comes close when they have Woody on for the majority of the show. On a somewhat related note, I figured I'd mention this here since it's not worth starting a thread over- Has anyone else noticed that Tony Kornheiser and Todd Gordon, formerly of ECW, look a lot alike? I saw the resemblance after watching the ECW DVD again.
MikeJordan23 Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 I like all three shows, usually good for light comedy if nothing else . 1. PTI 2. I, Max 3. ATH In that order, the one and two are interchangable at times.
