Bossman passes away

Recommended Posts

Well like the other's I'm said to see Bossman pass away. He was one of my favorite heels as a kid. IE I hated him so much that I'd watch so see who could beat him. RIP Bossman.

BTW, is anyone else shocked at how old his is? 42? I mean I thought he was at least in his early 50s. Mainly because he's been wrestling for so long.

Remember on SD! when he showed up out of NOWHERE to attack Stone Cold? That was awesome

I was at that Smackdown, if it was in DC. He attacked Austin with the microphone and then him and Booker did a backstage segment with Vince where they tried to get over their new catchphrase... "Who?"

As most of you know, Ray Traylor aka Big Bossman aka Big Bubba Rogers, passed away last night at his home in Acworth, GA at the age of 42. The preliminary cause of death was a massive heart attack.

I don't know what to say here. This is getting to be too much. All of my childhood heroes are passing away far too soon.

I was always a big Bossman fan, and part of that was because my uncle (whos a prison guard in NY) looked like him especxially when he put on his guard uni. My uncle too was a big fan. wow

I'll just say a prayer for him and think of good memories past.

Wow I was just watching wm 5 the other day and was luaghing watching big Ray toos around the rockers like they were dolls.

I was just thinking that they should bring him back to wwe as a babyface to bring his career full circle again and give him a nice sendoff. damn

RIP RAY and my thoughts and condences to the Traylor family

shamrock and bossman were a great team, I especially enjoyed the solution that pat patterson I think came up with to counteract Debra at ringside when they defended against owen and jarrett (the night they won the tag belts I beleieve) I think everyone remembers what I am talking about right? (hint he had boss/sham drink something)

and thinking of the show feud, Boss's sympathy card reading had me laughing

but I think I'll remember him most as the kind lawman who stood up against the evildoers of the wwf and who gave that annoying evil Nailz his comeuppance (wow that reminds me of how horrified I was back when Nailz showed up on superstars and beat Bossman to a pulp, wwf magazine did an article later on where they showed all boss bruises and it scared me)

and his heel turn speech in wcw was great "I went out there and I kicked some ass" (gene looks horrified at the use of the word ass) watch your language I think he said

I just logged on here and read about this and I can't believe it. I'm definitely going back and reading the rest of this thread. I really don't know what else to say other than it sucks. All the best to his family and friends.

RIP Bossman

(I am proud to have him as my avatar for the last couple of months)

I just put in the Rumble 99 with Bossman/ Roaddogg in the opening match and a few minutes later I'm reading this. This is a sad day for wrestling fans for sure as I was always a big fan of his..he was great as a face in the eighties and early nineties and badass as the Corporate enforcer role during the attitude era...you will be missed Bossman.

Another great Bossman moment, although not quite specific to him. Remember on Heat when Terri slipped a Viagra in Meats drink and he fought Bossman with a comically large erection in his trunks. He spent most of the match humping the Bossman before Bossman quickly squashed him.

It's too bad that the Bossman passed away. I was never really a fan of his work or gimmick but its still sad to see a guy relatively young die.

Another great moment from RR2000 is when Rikishi is all alone in the ring as the colock counts down to zero and The Bossman's music hit. MSG immediately gave him heat that would put goosebumps on any heel's body.

This is the worst news I've heard all week. I can't remember the last time a wrestler passed away and I actually felt sorry for him/her - the recent ones have all been druggies, elderly people, or guys I never gave a shit about. Sorry, but that's the truth. As legendary as Davey Boy Smith was, and as much as I loved him, he had it coming. Bossman, though... he truly didn't deserve this.

He was never a great worker, but his character was one of the all-time greatest. His feud with the Big Show was possibly the funniest thing I've ever seen on television, and he delivered a CLASSIC line regarding it a year or two later:

(Kurt Angle, feuding with the Big Show at the time, runs into Bossman backstage)

ANGLE: Hey, you don't like the Big Show, right?

BOSSMAN: I pulled his daddy out of the grave across the cemetary at high speed!

RIP, Ray. You always put a smile on my face.

With deepest regrets, and tears that are soaked...

I read about this work and it was upsetting to hear. I love how great BBM was during his feud with Big Show back in Dec. 1999. His mic work was extrordinary!

Thank for the memories!

I enjoyed his feud with Mr. Perfect and the Mountie, but I think my favorite Boss Man moment of all time is when he came back in late 98. Stone Cold was in the ring and was sneak attacked by a masked man with a night stick. Austin was left lying on the ground. The man took his mask with JR shouting the infamous words of "BAH GAWD ITS THE BIG BOSS MAN!!!" Then RAW ended. :)

Another favorite of mine would be Boss Man & LOD kicking ass at SSeries 91.

I live in Paulding County not 5 miles from his house. He and his wife owned a tanning salon here. I have met him on several occasions and he even ran for County seat in the last election. He was a stand up guy and this community will miss him dearly.

and yes I did vote for him.

One of my favourite matches back when I was a 12 year old mark was Bossman/Akeem/Andre vs Demolition/Hacksaw from Summerslam 89. That had to be the biggest 3 man team ever put together. I loved watching Smash bodyslam Bossman, then Akeem, and with the crowd going wild he tried for Andre but didn't pull it off.

Spine pretty much summed up my feelings. I didn't watch during the 80's, but his 90's run gave us a lot of great moments, even if a lot of them were memorable for all the wrong reasons. :) Aside from the silly Show/Snow stuff, it was a pleasure to seem him smack around Road Dogg in Hardcore matches. Whether or not you like WWF's crack at the division, Boss Man was an important part of it and he worked some of the more entertaining HC brawls in it.

Boss Man is still my reigning HC champion in No Mercy. :)

Believe it or not, but one of my earlier wrestlin memories is of the Bossman on Superstars pulling a promo with his ever cool 'Big Bossman logo' on the backdrop (they need to bring those back) I couldn't for the life of me remember what he was talking about, being about 5 years old, but it was cool to see a cop in wrestling.

I also remember his run in the 90's as well as his WCW run where he tried to keep Scott Steiner away from the nWo. Those were good days of wrestling and he'll be missed.

RIP

Ray Traylor aka. Big Bossman

Man thats awful... really stinks he never got a good run with a title. Should have gotten the I-C belt, he could have had a good run with it.

It just sucks, all the guys I loved as a kid are dying. Unfortunately it looks like Earthquake is going to be next, and the road Jake Roberts is on I doubt he's got much longer.

RIP

When I was a kid I watched that match over and over again. That suplerplex is, to this day, amazing to see.

Just over a week ago, I was at a friend's house watching Wrestlemania V, and we decided to be sadistic and count all of the dead wrestlers wrestling. I never would've guessed that the Big Bossman would be the next one to be added to that list.

I was always a Big Bossman mark, from his beginnings to his feud with Nailz and through his Corporation days with Shamrock and eventually his infamous feud with Big Show.

He will truly be missed.

Anyone remember that roundhouse kick he did at the '92 Royal Rumble? Kawada wishes he could kick like that.

And as for Jake Roberts being next... I bet he lives to be 150.

World Wrestling Entertainment is saddened by the loss of Ray Traylor, professionally known as the Big Boss Man. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Inside the wrestling ring, Boss Man was one of the most feared and respected Superstars of his time. Outside the ring, however, Traylor was a kind, gentle, charitable, compassionate family man. While his WWE persona was known for antagonizing others, the real Traylor stopped at nothing to put smiles on the faces of the children he would meet.

Traylor began wrestling in 1984. While serving as a prison guard in Cobb County, Georgia, Traylor caught the attention of a local Atlanta wrestling booker. After months of learning the ropes and paying his dues, Traylor was re-christened Big Bubba Rogers. Not long after, Big Bubba Rogers was in main events all over the country, serving as Jim Cornette’s bodyguard.

A few years later, Traylor traveled to Stamford, Connecticut, to meet with Vince McMahon. Shortly thereafter, the Big Boss Man was created.

As a member of WWE, Big Boss Man rapidly moved up the ranks to main event status. It was as the Boss Man in WWE that Traylor enjoyed his greatest success, facing off against many huge names – Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage and Andre the Giant.

Ray's spirit and warm nature will never be forgotten.
