Worst Concert You've Gone To On Your Free Will?

Concerts you were dragged to by friends/relatives/enemies don't count. Only Concerts you went to on your own free will, thinking they would be good do. I'd say the worst one I sat through was sometime in 2000, it was a 5 hour marathon radio station sponsored (It was the Top 40 station to boot) concert, 75% of the audience was papered and nobody had any enthusiasm including most of the performers. The whole concert was like two hours of eight bands (Six of which were crappy, two were meh) playing and three hours of setting up for those bands. Most of the crowd left during the headliner, Third Eye Blind's set, they were so exhausted from the mind numbingly bad show (Myself included) .

I dont think Ive ever really gone to a 'bad' show by my own decision. Ive seen a few shitty ones that I was dragged to...3 Days Grace, 12 Stones, few others.

 

The worst I went to by choice would probably be a Stereomud show back in the day...damn, what a boring band. But the openers (Endo, Finger 11 and Flybanger) were pretty fun and it was only one dollar, so I cant even complain. Ive seen a few ungodly terrible opening bands too on shows I wanted to see...Bender, Saving Face, Filter, etc.

The Chili Peppers were an absolute total fucking disappointment. I was never a huge fan of them or anything, but I went on one of those "I'll go to your concert if you'll go to mine" when I dragged my friend to go see Ministry. Snoop Dogg opened for RHCP and he was light years better.

There's a multitude of cover bands I have seen at bars around here on my own free will that were just awful. Ever see some of these lameasses attempt choreography? Or to do a rock version of "It's Gettin Hot in Here" or "Regulate"?

 

I think the worst I saw though, was probably Steve Miller Band. I went with my parents and was too young to have any real fun. Staind runs a close second, although "Mudshovel" was mosh Heaven.

Has to be Aerosmith. Everyone hyped them as "a great live show", So I rounded a group of people who were bigger Aerosmith fans then I was, the openers were .38 special and Run DMC (the last tour they ever did before Jam was killed). It was HORRID as far as the concert went, Aerosmith was so uninspired that night which might have been due to the massive rainstorm they played in, the grass was all muddy as well. They had a mini-stage set up by the lawn, which was for a brief encore set by the lawn but they never came and apprently cut the show short to bout 40 minutes. They just went and plugged out the major hits (Jaded, Crazy, Don't Wanna Miss a Thing, Amazin, Walk this way, Girls of Summer etc) and didn't do one old school song. Run DMC didn't even do the collab set either.

 

At least I had a hot chick on my arm the whole night.

Biohazard about two years ago was pretty fucking weak because I'd never heard their music, nor those of the opening bands.

 

Everclear was God awful. Not only was the performance bad, but they sounded absolutely terrible. The Exies were direct support, and weren't very good. Authority Zero, though, was great.

 

Senses Fail, Silverstein, Name Taken, and Madison was crap.

As far as local bands go, the Lexington group C.O. Jones sucked ass. Hands down the worst local band I've ever seen.

 

For big names, John Mayer. He toured with Counting Crows (who I actually wanted to see) last summer. The Crows went on first, so in theory I could have left early. However the girlfriend wanted to see Mayer and thus I had to suffer.

Killswitch engage was fucking horrendous last night. I can't stand them anyway, and they went on between Mastodon, who were excellent if brief, and Slayer, who was Slayer.

I don't remember, but I most likley got some play later that night or the next morning. But even that doesn't change the fact that I had to sit through John Mayer's set.

My friend was a big fan of some ban called "Under Oath" so we went and they were the most craptacular band I have seen live. Supposedly they were ditching their metal-core roots for the EMO route. UGH.

I just saw Underoath 2-3 weeks ago as they opened for Coheed & Cambria, of course they sucked...but the old stuff of theirs (with the old lead singer) was awesome, now they just...suck.

I willingly saw SR/71, but it was surprisingly not horrible. There lead singer has loads of charisma which makes up for the fact the rest of the group had the combined charisma of a log. The Exies were the supporting band and I can't remember a single thing except for the drummer was an asshole and wouldn't give his drumsticks to the fourteen year old girls in the front row (And the concert was in a small club, only could fit about 250-300 people.) In retrospect the show wasn't very good, and probably is 2nd behind the aformentioned radio station "bash.

 

Oh and I almost went to a show featuring this lineup; 98 Degrees, Jessica Simpson, Dream and the Baha Men. Luckily cooler heads prevailed, although a friend of a friend went and said all throughout the Baha Men's set, his dad kept shouting "PLAY WHO LET THE DOGS OUT!" As if Who Let The Dogs Out? Was a rare B side rarely played by the Baha Men.

I'd say it's one of three for me ... Billy Joel, Steely Dan, or the Ramones

 

a) Billy Joel (on the "We Didn't Start the Fire" tour) ... but I knew I would be miserable before I even went, so it might not qualify as the worst concert I've ever been to, even though it was horrid.

 

b) Steely Dan ... again, I knew it'd be horrible, and at least I got really, really drunk at the show, so it wasn't all bad.

 

c) the Ramones ... I was going to see Social Distortion more than the Ramones, but I was really surprised by how lame the Ramones were. I ended up leaving early, and just meeting my friends after the show.

 

So, after typing it all out, the 'winner' for worst show I've ever seen: The Ramones.

Well, Limp Bizkit was laughably bad, but I saw them at WM XIX, so I wouldn't say it really counts.

 

ZZ Top was pretty damn bad. Sure they played ok, but they sounded exactly, and I mean exactlylike the radio, no changes in solos or anything. And they didn't whip out any unusual songs from their library or anything.

 

Yeah Yeah Yeahs at EndFest was pretty damn bad, but that was less their fault and more the fault of the micing.

The techno machine (only used briefly) was way louder than the drums were way louder than the guitar was way louder than Karen O.

Jet and the Vines. I went more to see Jet, but my friend was a semi-vines fan so we stayed to see them too. Jet was kickass, the vines blew.

 

I'm not a big fan of the vines, but I know they have more actual rock songs than the shite they played that night. After rocking out to Jet for 40 minutes and then watching the crowd die as the Vines came on and did a bunch of slow crap ass "ballad..." It was terrible.

 

I havent been to many concertsm but they were easily the worst. But it was free, so i guess you get waht you paid for.

The Vines are my choice for worst concert too. Their singer was so smashed he was puking behind the amps and juandering off stage. They had to play the intro to a song for like 7 minutes untill he came back. The Music were opening for The Vines and they were awesome.

I saw Mudvayne twice before the release of LD50...both shows were quite awesome. No idea how theyve performed since.
