Your wrestler biases

Recommended Posts

We all have are leanings towards certain workers more than others, often for logical and sometimes illogical reasons. This can include guilty pleasures and obviously talented wrestlers who you dislike for some reason. Which biases do you have?

One major thing that prevents me from sometimes enjoying a wrestler's work is when I feel they didn't or do not deserve the push they get. I wasn't able to get into Lesnar for a while simply because I thought he didn't warrant the main event spot he had, but I was eventually able to get over it and start watching his stuff.

Same thing during the early JBL and though I still don't think he should have the title, now I'm amused by his gimmick and consider him an entertaining part of Smackdown.

I still love Booker T's matches. I know people say he's washed up but I always enjoy his work on PPV (I don't get SD!) In fact I really enjoyed Booker v. JBL

Bias in favor of: Hulk Hogan (if he was active), Chris Benoit, Charlie Haas, Shelton Benjamin, Paul London.

Bias against: Shawn Michaels... and thats pretty much it. Even though I hate Holly I still actually like his matches... usually.

I love all of the Natural Born Thrillers, despite the fact that they're all untalented, unemployed hacks. And I also despise HBK for his prob. false "born again" thing. Just leeeeeeave

i have quite a few, so hunker down:

The Rock: i don't see the guy's appeal at all. i just see him as the "cool" kid in high school who thinks he's funny, treats everyone around him like shit, and everyone just kisses his ass because he's popular and, ahem, 'good-looking'.

Shawn Michaels: whereas he is a good wrestler, i suppose, he's just such a pompous ass and a bitchy prima donna (has he EVER lost a title cleanly? seriously, i'm asking). and the trumpeting of his religion on his merchandise doesn't help his cause in my eyes, either.

Jerry Lawler: i guess i just have a natural dislike for obnoxious sexual deviants. go figure.

Steve Austin: same as above , just substitute "obnoxious sexual deviants" with "woman-beating shit-bags."

HHH: maintains his spot in the ME based only on who he's fucking, since he obviously couldn't draw flies with a wet bucket of shit. this really wouldn't bother me so much if it didn't seem he liked to rub it in everyone's face.

Vince McMahon: i can't think of one redeeming quality about the man. not ONE. if it came out tomorrow that is was him who kidnapped, raped and killed the Lindberg (sp?) baby, was the second gun-man on the grassy knoll, and was the creator of the HIV virus, it wouldn't surprise me one iota.

Hulk Hogan: completely coasted by on his look and marketing without a shred of talent, then seems to think the whole wrestling industry STILL owes him. what, more money then you can spend in your lifetime isn't enough?

Kevin Nash: again, completely coasted on his look and who his friends are. has even less talent then Hogan (if that's possible), but sees himself as his equal, despite (not unlike his pal, HHH) not drawing a frickin' dime. i will concede, Hogan did draw shit-loads of money, so his ego is (somewhat) justifiable, but "Big Shitty" here couldn't draw even when he booked himself as the complete center of attention.

Lex Luger: see 'Austin, Steve'.

Buff Bagwell: a conceited, obnoxious bully who picks on anyone who he thinks won't fight back, has little, if any, talent, and seems to be under the impression that his shit doesn't stink.

Undertaker: christ, just RETIRE already. we get it, your the 'Phenom', you've had a 'Decade and a Half of Destruction', you' ve never lost a Wrestlemania, WE GET IT. you've accomplished all your going to, just leave and give someone else a shot. it's not like your getting any younger...or thinner...or more agile...or more talented in general...

Chyna: completely over-estimated her worth to the industry. had everyone and their mother work their asses off to get her over, but when it came time for her to do the same for someone else (Lita, for example), she sabotaged it on purpose. it's gotten so bad, that i, the bastard son of woman-beater, puts more stock in X-Pac's version of their abusive relationship then hers.

Stephanie McMahon: shrill voice, atrocious 'acting', and despite her looks, store-bought tits and Daddy's marketing machine, still managed to botch every single of the 1,293,987 attempts to get her over.

Torrie Wilson: plastic-fantastic, life-size Barbie doll who only has a job because of how she looks. that's it. that's the sum total of her talent. she's the wrestling equivilant of Carmen Electra. that and introducing us to her idiot father.

Jeff Jarrett: Jeff, your not a star. you can hold onto that belt for 6 years and no one will ever see you as a star. you just don't have "it". give up the ghost. it's over. time for go to bed.

JBL: granted, his character can be entertaining, i'll admit, but it still doesn't make me like him any more. if they built him up naturally, as opposed to just shoving him my face screaming "SWALLOW IT!! SWALLOW IT!!", i could except him. but as is, he does little to nothing for me. that and he sucks in the ring. BADLY.

Good 'ol JR: "STONE-COOOLD!!! STONE-COOOLD!!! HE'S A HOSS!!!! GOVER'MENT MULE!!! SCALDED DAWG!!! BY GAWD HE'S BROKEN IN HALF!!!" need i go on?

Bret Hart: Montreal was just as much his fault as McMahon's. i don't care where the match was or who it was against, you drop the title on your way out, you don't just "hand it over". it's the way it's always been done when a guy leaves a territory, what makes YOU so damn special?

that's all i can think of for now...i'll come back if i've left anybody out.

and to prove i'm not all just negativity, here's some guys i'm biased FOR:

Rhyno: i'm an ECW mark, what can i say? i think he has alot of untapped potential.

Tajiri: great wrestler, funny and entertaining as hell when they let him be.

Stevie Richards: same as Tajiri. i was also a fan of is more serious promos in ECW.

New Jack: yeah, i know, the guy couldn't wrestle his way out of wet paper sack, but dammit, his promos ALONE make me love the guy. hell, last week, on this Maximum Pro Wrestling show, his promo for and upcoming cage match with him and Hack Myers (y'know the old ECW mid-carder...the "Shah") against two nobodies called the Blackhearts made want to watch it. the match sucked from a technical standpoint, but it was still entertaining as hell, what can i say?

Sabu: again, not the best pure wrestler in the world, but still...the man is INSANE. he damn near killed himself for years for my entertainment. i respect that.

Raven: Mick Foley may be my favorite wrestler, but Raven is my favorite character of all time. one of the best promo men in the business, has quite a bit of talent, and when he was ECW, was the slimiest heel EVER.

Mick Foley: Mick seems like a great guy and is entertaining in (almost) any capacity. however, his glad-handing roles as of late are starting to slowly sour me on him. but i'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Gene Snitsky: i know some people think it's the "hip, cool" thing to back Gene these days, but it's not like that for me. his character is just...such a dick. from his insincere apology, to wheeling a baby-stroller around to punting a baby doll into the crowd, he's just being a dick for the sake of being a dick. and he's GOOD at it. gotta love him.

Kane: has probably the most convoluted character in wrestling history, but still makes it work. he does good with what he has to work with and has carved out quite the little niche for himself. plus, he's a Doors fan. gotta love that.

The Big Show: i can't even explain why i like this guy...he just seems cool to me, i dunno.

Monty Brown: i've very quickly became a fan of this guy. has alot going for him and can only get better. here's hoping TNA agrees.

Abyss: yeah, some see him as a Kane/Mankind clone, but given the right direction, he can go places.

Mikey Whipwreck: first billed as the perennial loser, over the years he's proven he's anything but.

Rob Van Dam: if they would only let him go back to what made him great in ECW (minus all the stalling), he could be a contenda' .

I'm totally bias for Edge, Jericho, RVD and Benoit. When there's an arguement about Edge, I'm the first one to defend him. I argue about RVD with people in 'real' life all the time. I'll be the last one to admit when Benoit and Jericho have a bad match.

I'm bias against Triple H, and I'll admit it. I can't even watch his so-called "good" stuff without rolling my eyes, unless it's with someone I like as his opponent. I'm also pretty bias against Austin, as I've never really seen his appeal and I obviously just don't "get" him.

I love: Canadians, almost anyone trained by the Harts.

I hate: The Rock, I've never been able to stand him, his catchphrases are awful, I hate his wrestling style and I don't like the fact that he only comes back once and awhile for only big shows.

Michaels also cried his way out of doing the job to Vader at Summerslam 96 and "lost his smile" in February before he was going to drop the title to Bret Hart at Wrestlemania XIII.

I forgot to mention that all Canadians get initial props from me from being from Canada. Even if they suck.

Except for Chris Jericho, who in my mind, has revoked his Canadian citizenship. Maybe it's because I hated him SO MUCH while he was in WCW, but I can't stand to watch him talk on the mic or wrestle. Heel or face.

Oh yeah, and I *may* favor Big Dave The Second Coming. Just a tiny bit.

Chris was born in Manhatten. That might explain it.

Didn't Jericho also grow up in the United States when his father was playing for the New York Rangers?

Jericho was def. born in Manhattan. His dad did play for the Rangers, but I believe he lived in Winnipeg(where his dad was from) from the time Chris was about 8 or 9. I recall him reminiscing on Confidential about his days growing up in Winnipeg.

isn't that one where Tyson was the special referee? didn't he knock Michael's out, and then Austin got the pin?

Michaels dropped the title to Austin squeaky clean (unless you count Mike Tyson counting the pin not clean).

Anyways, I'm biased for: Rey Mysterio Jr., Kidman, Eddy Guerrero, Konnan, JBL, Monty Brown, CM Punk, and Paul London.

I can't really think of anyone I'm biased against.

Tysons count was quite fast, but still, Michaels actually did the clean job... for once. Only time ever he jobbed a title clean.

IC Title #1: Lost to Jannetty thanks to Hennig's distraction.

IC Title #2: Stripped because of his contract negotations in real life.

IC Title #3: Stripped because he got his ass handed to him by somewhere between 1 and 4,935,940 marines.

Tag Title #1: Vacated due to Diesel split

Tag Title #2: Decision was reversed the night after IYH 3

Tag Title #3: I don't think he and Austin lost the title.

World Title #1: Jobbed to Sid after being attacked with a camera.

World Title #2: Vacated when he lost his jobbing ability... I mean smile.

World Title #3: Clean Job

World Title #4: Jobbed to HHH in a Ladder Match.

European Title: Lame comedy match to HHH, further making the title look like shit.
