What happened in the WWF the day you were born?

Recommended Posts

I got the Backlund / Steele blowoff in Portland a few weeks later.

As well as the big Hennig/Doherty blow off. I am guessing this was before the time that Doherty became a full-fledged jobber. At least I hope, a DQ in a jobber match just sounds horrible.

So Backlund was using the chicken wing as his finisher back then?

How often did matches like this happen back then?

Not often but the champion vs. champion matches did happen every now and again.

Backlund vs. Bockwinkel (AWA champ), Backlund vs. Race (NWA champ), Superstar vs. Race (NWA champ), Backlund vs. Flair (NWA champ).

Most of them took place out of the W/WWF territory but Race / Backlund did MSG once. That wasn't their only match.

Hulk Hogan defeated Pat Patterson

So if Hogan was main eventing in 1980, what did he do until his return (was it 84?)? I am really uneducated on my old school wrestling.

I believe that he filmed Rocky III, was kicked out of WWF for it and not showing the dates, then went to AWA...before Vince Jr. called him up to return to WWF and the rest is history.

It is an odd match.

Vince had Bruno fill in for a coked-out Jake Roberts several times during the summer of 87. Who knows exactly what Jake was up to but I'm sure it was no good.

Bruno even went over Honky via pinfall in a 6-man elimination match at the Boston Garden.

Right, forgot about those.

Don't know how I did...that's where the infamous worked-shoot KO of Inoki happened, IIRC.
