November Rain #1 single ever

Recommended Posts

According to Kerrang.com, GUNS N' ROSES have topped the Kerrang! Rock 100 poll with their 1991 smash hit "November Rain" being voted Best-Ever Single. Some 2,500 votes were cast via Kerrang! TV, Kerrang! Radio and Kerrang! magazine. Last year's winner NIRVANA with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was bumped into second place.

GUNS N'ROSES and NIRVANA members dominate the poll of the 100 best rock singles. Former NIRVANA drummer Dave Grohl's band FOO FIGHTERS is in at number seven while VELVET REVOLVER, which features three ex-GN'R members in its ranks, make it in at number eight.

The official Kerrang! TV Rock 100 (top 10):

01. GUNS N' ROSES – "November Rain"

02. NIRVANA - "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

03. GREEN DAY - "American Idiot"

04. KORN - "Freak On A Leash"

05. MARILYN MANSON - "Tainted Love"

06. KINGS OF LEON - "The Bucket"

07. FOO FIGHTERS - "Learn To Fly"

08. VELVET REVOLVER – "Slither"

09. METALLICA – "One"

10. QUEEN - "Bohemian Rhapsody"

The presence of Korn and Manson's cover of "Tainted Love", as well as two songs just released last year, taint this list. Good choice for #1, though. It's funny, considering Axl hates Kerrang.

Eh, Axl's written better songs than November Rain

November Rain was on the radio yesterday, and I did not pick up on it right away.

I suddenly said "that's Axl Rose....." and someone said "yeah, November Rain, dumbass."

Truth be told, I always hit "next" whenever it comes up on the CD, so chances are I won't reconize it initially next time either.

Guest Agent of Oblivion

Who the fuck are Kings of Leon?

Kerrang is the Mad Magazine of the music world.

This is exactly why a magazine whose main audience is disgruntled 14 year olds shouldn't have any "Best song EVER!!" type polls. Over half this list is just laughable, most notably the Kings of Leon. Every band there could be represented by at least one superior song, especially Manson.

Nevember Rain is a very good song, but not the best ever. And smells like Teen Spirit is the most overrated song of all time. If Vedder had killed himself instead then the list would have Jeremy. That goddamn song shot to the top of every list when that moron blew his head off...and I liked Nirvana

02. NIRVANA - "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

I really hate it how this song "changed" the music business. It isn't that good of a song.

It certainly changed the music business for me. It was when I realized rock could royally suck.

I do like his version better than the original, though, and I like the original. That's one of his good covers.

By the way, SLTS changing the music business has nothing to do with the quality of the song. Putting change in quotes is also not needed.

Then amend "original" to "famous".

While, I'm talking about it...

"I Put A Spell On You" is, I think, Manson's best cover. That's one of the more covered songs I know, and I think I like his version the best, his and Diamanda Galas'.

I find it amusing that Metallica's "One" made the list, given that the just about everyone in the media have long taken up the retroactive notion that "Enter Sandman" is the group's first single.

It's a shame that most of his big commercial claims to fame are covers (eg. 'Sweet Dreams' and 'Tainted Love'). His lesser known work is exceptionally under-rated.

I'd still call "The Beautiful People" his best known song. But yes... Dude's gotten better with every album (with the exception of Holy Wood, basically Antichrist Superstar redux [still pretty good, though]), I can't say that about a lot of people.

With Manson, I still think antichrist superstar has some decent songs on it, but I've not been a massive fan since. He's done some decent singles since then, but 'Personal Jesus' was the best, another cover. He picks em well, though.
