Greatest WWF stars of 80's DVD out

Recommended Posts

WWE has no problems reusing the same matches for DVD releases. I doubt they'd hold back a match for a boxset that people have been wanting for two or three years.

Precisely, they have re-used Hulk Hogan Vs Andre @ WM3 so many times and that match would be crucial for a supposed WM DVD.

They simply wish to not acknowledge Randy Savage's presence in wrestling history.

Which is really petty on Vince's part. It's not like anyone realistically expects him to release a multi-dvd set of Savage but the Steamboat/Savage match is gushed upon by many WWE wrestlers of today and the feud/blowoff is one of the greatest executed sagas of all time. Besides, Savage lost anyway.

FWIW, I believe a few minutes of the match are on the History of WrestleMania I-IX dvd.

Found it at a Wal-Mart here for $22.84

The JYD-Savage match and the clips of the Savage-Steamboat match have Jesse Ventura's commentary edited out. I thought their issues were settled. But if Jesse's commentary would have to be edited out of WM's I-VI in order for them to get a DVD release, I'd rather watch my tapes.

I may be wrong, but I think Hogan-Andre has only been featured once as part of Hogan's DVD.

From what I've heard Randy Savage's existance could be acknowledged if he wasn't overly greedy and would sign the royalties package that they're giving out to the "legends".

I have the Best of Wrestlemania tape that was released in 1998, and that does not even mention Savage/Steamboat.

Yea I have that tape too , they make some lousy choices for "highlights" hell wm 9 is reduced to shots of taker vs gonzalez (I guess as an "FU" to Hogan who was in wcw at the time)

It was on Wrestlemania 2000 or Wrestlemania X-Seven as the extra 3rd disc and bundled with the History of Wrestlemania book?

So in other words, he should just accept the lowly pay Vince wants to give him and be treated like Piper's last stint. I agree he is being greedy, but if he knows Vince is going to try to get him back, he might as well get into his pockets. I mean he got even Hogan with the Mr. America nonsense and the line of ...."everytime you try to do something on your own you fall on your red and yellow ass" or something like that on a smackdown show post Mania 18. Savage might be the smart one here. Vince would make some coin with a Savage DVD though. Savage is not overexposed like the other legends since we haven't seen him in years. I think Bret and Savage are the last two money guys. We aren't seeing too much Bret Hart stuff either.

Yeah, Vince would make some coin, but Savage is also missing out on a chunk of the pie by sitting out. If Savage has some delusions about his own worth I suppose that's his problem he's missing out. As for Bret Hart, I think he has some kind of deal in place since Jakks has been pumping out plenty of figures of him in their Classic line. I'm sure a Bret DVD will come much sooner than later.

Also, remember how many licenced WWE video games Bret Hart's been in lately. Unless that's due to some likness loophole from his contract from years ago, Bret's obviously more than willing to do business with Vince McMahon.

I just don't get the deal with Jesse Ventura's voice, though. Why can't they use it? They own the footage.

Jesse sued the WWF back in 94 for royalties from videotapes. He is the only announcer with the guts to claim his voice and try to get paid. The agreement in the case said they can use his voice, so long as the matches he commented on had already been released on video (so anything on coliseum home video I'd asumme). by the wwf/e. That's why anything from WCW is off-limits, as Vicne is too cheap to throw Jesse some more cash.

Picked it up after all, didn't realize it was a 3 disc set,

Random thought- Looking at Greg Valentine today, does anyone else get reminded of Michael Madsen?

I don't get the rationale of how he can make a claim on that, unless video royalties were part of his original contract...probably something having to do with residual payments...?

I had tears rolling down my face during the JYD profile.

Quick Facts:

Dusty's blood loss vs Flair was supposedly leading to Rhodes vs Frazier but Joe couldn't come to terms.

BJ Haynes attacked Jim Crockett after the Andersons vs Wahoo/BJ match when paychecks were handed out. The Andersons got 2,500 each, Wahoo got 2,500, BJ Haynes got 1,500

Lawler elevated himself by putting over Henning and Von Erich after beating them

Dusty's promo was great as well

Picked this up yesterday after the Walmart I went to told me they wer out of the Roadwarriors DVD. They only ordered 5, damn them.\

Anyways, this is pretty good stuff. Much more enjoyable than anything they put on today on Raw. And I especially loved the Steamboat interview, when he tells everybody that he and Savage went out there to steal the show.

That would have been the single worst match/angle ever.

if Mick Foley was telling the truth in his book, then we would have had Leon Spinks vs Taz in 1996. Now that would have been awful.

I shoudl mention that I did get this dvd the same day I got the ecw ONS one.

I have watched all the profiles, but only all the extras of the first disc and the flair vs youngblood match on the second disc. Pretty good features, except for Salughters one that jumps forward and backward in time when talking about his career. (they talk about his last awa run in the late 80s, then jump back to his second wwf run in 84). Alot of the profiles were just recycled confidential pieces (infact all of ARns one was all from one episdoe of confidential) Hogans was mostly from his dvd and Flairs as well (many confidential pieces).

One question, why would they talk about slaughters bootcamp match with Shiek in the profile, then put a different match on the extras? (it was infact the match from the month prior to that match, that infact set up the bootcamp)

The best match so far IMO was the Valentine vs Santana lumberjack.

Does anybody know the sales figures for this set? I hope its successful enough to warrant a sequel...this thing is incredible, and they left out so many workers. Andre, Albano, Warrior, Rude, Roberts, Luger, Bockwinkle, Jimmy Hart, etc could all fill up another 3 discs.

That JYD bio was really cool too.

I was watching the Piper/Valentine chain match just now, and found myself yelling at the ref for activiley interfering in a NO DQ match. A testament to how good it wsa, if it was able to suck in a smark like me.

...25 years after the match. :)

I still cant believe how violently great that match was. Unbelievable.

And, Valentine should get his own dvd. Hugely underrated.

I guess WalMart has the best price from what I've read. I've only seen it go for $34.00 or higher and there is no way in hell I am paying for old footage and paying over $25 for it.
