BUTT 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 Here's something I've wondered for a while: How was Psygnosis allowed to port Wipeout and other games to Saturn and N64 when they were owned by Sony?
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 I'm sure it's a little more complicated than this--but they weren't published under the Psygnosis/Sony label; Midway published. So I guess it came down to $, and likely Sony got a chunk of the change without having to directly take on publisher costs. So think about it. Some Sony Europe exec was probably approached with the idea to take a IP waning in popularity, develop a version for a system that posted little threat to Playstation at that point, and without Sony having to risk being stuck with the costs of publishing and marketing the thing. At least that's my theory.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 So I'm a sucker and going to buy myself a copy of Xenosaga III. Why? No idea. All I need to do is find a copy of Xenosaga II and I can play the whole series.
Ced 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2006 So I found out that a DDR SuperNova machine exists about 3 miles from my house at a bowling alley that just opened last Friday. Anybody else seen one?
BorneAgain 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2006 Didn't see this posted so Tecmo announces Virtual Console support I see some heavy Tecmo Bowl play in the future.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2006 A new tecmo bowl would be the awesome! I get me some Disgaea 2 later today. Weeeeeee... ...although alternating between Disgaea, Xenosaga, Madden, and NCAA is gonna be hard. I'll need to plan a schedule out for what I play.
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 ..and like everyone thought, Ubi announces that Assassin's Creed is coming to the 360. Excellent.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 Assassin's Creed 360--worst kept industry secret ever. What I'm *really* interested in is that if the Wii version is for real. "Project Assassin" showed up the leaked Ubi release list. Ubi's been pushing how the new tech allows them to have all of the crowds respond realistically--which seems like it would be something Wii couldn't do. However, that doesn't necessarily mean a visual downgrade wouldn't make it possible. Though, we know Ubi isn't completely opposed to massively toning down a game just to say that released it on a system (some of the non-xbox splinter cells, for instance). A PSP release was on there, too. A new tecmo bowl would be the awesome! I get me some Disgaea 2 later today. Weeeeeee... ...although alternating between Disgaea, Xenosaga, Madden, and NCAA is gonna be hard. I'll need to plan a schedule out for what I play. I got Disgaea 2 as well, although I don't know why exactly. Has Jesus ever made an appearance like this is in a game before? (OMG SPOILERS!) Wisdom Tree loved them some Moses, that I know. lol xenosaga is retarded 2006
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 Well, it's coming to PC, 360, and PS3 already..and this is Ubi. Also, Xenosaga 3's censored. Worst, the game is heavily censored. Namco Bandai, in its efforts to get a T rating, has sucked all of the blood out of the game. Normally it wouldn't much matter, but major plot points of this game center around brutal violence - including the climactic scene in which the biggest twist in the plot of the entire series is revealed. It's an insult to the fans that have tread the rocky path this series has taken.
Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 The countdown to the unveiling of DMC4 has begun... http://www.capcom.co.jp/devil4/ I can't wait.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 Well, it's coming to PC, 360, and PS3 already..and this is Ubi. Yeah, but as I said, likely *something* called Assassin's Creed will be on Wii, but I hope it isn't crap. I'd bet your sweet ass that the new Prince of Persia game being announced for Wii doesn't mean it's exclusive, either. Likely that's the first version that'll be revealed and they'll downplay talk of any other versions. It's an insult to the fans I thought the almost nil gameplay of Ep. I, plus the crappiness of II would be considering a greater insult. The T rating is a *desperate* attempt to hope more people buy it, because on paper you can see a lot of 13-16 year olds getting it when otherwise they wouldn't/couldn't. It's why we get PG-13 horror movies. Of course, that's exec logic, and it's the type of overt stupidity that got Streets of Rage 1-3 omitted from the US Sonic Gems Collection. You should just get the DS Xenosaga I + II, Flik.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 Inspired by the thread about 1986/87 Wrestling Observer notes, I took a peek into an old gaming maagzine bin. I just took the first magazine off the top (a 1997 GameFan with CastleVania: SOTN on the cover - which I guess was called CastleVania X at the time). An interesting note was a short preview for MK4 stating fatalities were gone with a quote from Ed Boon promising all new gameplay. The hell?
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 That was just a quote from another board, but..yeah. I picked up 1 a long time ago for $10, sat through what seemed like an eternity of cutscenes for 15 mintues of gameplay, and it's sat in the shelf ever since. That's the same kind of nonsense that MGS pulls, and why I don't like that series, either.
Special K 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 At least with the majority of MJS, you can just read the codec convos. Xenosaga is one of those games where I made it to the last area, and I was just so fucking sick of it, that I never finished. I bought FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus. That was a mistake. I beat it in four days max. There's very little to go back for. The enemies are dumb as a sack of hammers, but are crack shots. (Ducking, bobbing and weaving, you still get hosed by fire. For a game where basically all you do is shoot, you have three basic weapons, though they can be modified. It's nice to see the gang back one last time, and the story's decent. However, when did Square game get so damn wussy? FFVI and VII had pretty damn dark plots. Even Chrono Trigger had some really dark moments. Now it's all "love and souls and hearts and opening up our true selves" and blah blah fucking blah. Worth a rental if you're a fan of FFVII, if not, steer far clear. Definitely should have got Disgaea 2. I played the first one for 100+ hours, and just had a ball.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 I got Disgaea 2 as well, although I don't know why exactly. Has Jesus ever made an appearance like this is in a game before? (OMG SPOILERS!) Wisdom Tree loved them some Moses, that I know. lol xenosaga is retarded 2006 ...I just beat Disgaea 2. And frankly, I'm quite disappointed. Don't get me wrong, the story and that were rocking. But I haven't even owned this for like 3 weeks and I blew right through it. And it just feels shorter than the original. Then again I'm thinking I might've just hammered my way through entirely too quickly, because there was no dance scene between Rozy and Adell.
Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 However, when did Square game get so damn wussy? FFVI and VII had pretty damn dark plots. Even Chrono Trigger had some really dark moments. Now it's all "love and souls and hearts and opening up our true selves" and blah blah fucking blah. For me, it started at Final Fantasy X-2. Final Fantasy, for all it's tropical feeling and bright look, it's just like the story said. Everything looked great on the outside, but on the inside, there was a dark side to everything. Sin killing everything, people living in fear with one fun in life (blitzball, god help those bastards), and sacrificing people to kill Sin for 10 years of peace. And of course, you find that out throughout the game. Chrono Trigger, yeah, it was pretty dark at times. First time I entered a dome to and saw and got an idea of A.D. 2300, I was going wow... I've never seen anything THIS bleak before on a game. Those people had no fucking hope. For a game made in 95 on a limited memory system on the Super Nintendo, they did an amazing job telling us how bad the situation was. X-2 though? POP SONGS, SHORT SKIRTS, HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY. LaParkaMarka 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 X-2 though? POP SONGS, SHORT SKIRTS, HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY. You quit after 10 minutes. X2 definately had a dark undertone as you got further along into the game.

Definitely should have got Disgaea 2. I played the first one for 100+ hours, and just had a ball. If you were expecting anything else from someone like Vincent you went in expecting the wrong things concerning the storyline. His past that was known from FFVII hinted pretty much what would happen if he got his own game. And actually, I think it would've been good. And Disgaea 2 definitely is the better choice of the two if you had to make the pick. Plus as I hear it, if you don't pick up soon you'll likely not get a chance. Talked to the guy at my local gaming store, and they were not only sold out, they only had limited supplies. And they aren't EB, btw, who are also having troubles. BUTT 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 Why the fuck did Phantasy Star IV cost a hundred dollars? I understand Virtua Racing having that price since it had the special SVP chip, but what was so special about PS4?

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 That's just the way console RPGs were; probably the extensive cost of localization, plus trying to make the most money out of the games when at the time it was an extremely niche market for RPGs. After all, Final Fantasy "2", "3", Chrono Trigger, and even Super Mario RPG were all hella-expensive when they were released. And don't pretend the silliness of FFX-2 was limited to the first 10 minutes.
Anya 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 Yeah FFX-2 was consistently silly. Which is like the best thing about it. Everyone should thank FF VII for cheap rpgs!

Well yes, it did have an element of a few dark undertones, but the game was a lot more lighthearted throughout than most of the other Square Enix titles. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 You should just get the DS Xenosaga I + II, Flik. I might, but I don't want to buy a DS for just one game. I get me some Disgaea 2 later today. Weeeeeee... ...I just beat Disgaea 2. ... I'm already on my second time through. Although I'm currently trudging through the Cave of Ordeals for the hell of it, then going to continue on with the rest of the storyline. I was wondering this too. But the answer is obvious. Flik is a witch. Apparently someone didn't read the comment that I made earlier about using two years of my life just to RPGs (based on the average number of RPGs I've beaten and their average time, not including the ones I played yet never beaten). After awhile, you just pick up on how to do things. Hell, I can go into any dungeon and be at the boss asap, that's how keen my "adventuring" skills are. Ha! You people think Flik actually sleeps... that's hilarious. I do sleep... Just not when there's an RPG to be played. And if it wasn't for flipping over my bike and hurting my left hand, I'd be on my way to playing Xenosaga III.
