Hunter's Torn Quad Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Mick Foley will be returning to WWE TV and is about to sign a new contract with the company. We'll have a lot more on this in next week's Observer. A little bit of breaking news from the Between The Ropes radio show. Mick Foley revealed tonight that he was extremely close to joining TNA Wrestling. A deal had been on the table for four months to join TNA in a figurehead role along with a couple of wrestling matches against top TNA stars. After speaking with Vince McMahon, he opted to sign a contract with WWE, although he did not get any more money from WWE (hence, not using TNA to get a better deal from WWE). Foley said he enjoyed the TNA product and knew many of the guys in the company. He hoped the Spike TV show would be a success to provide competition to WWE. His new contract with WWE will include some wrestling matches, although not many. In fact, he noted that in a forthcoming interview that will air on ESPN Cold Pizza (taped previously, but has not aired due to hurricane coverage), he was asked who he hoped to wrestle in the near future and replied with Samoa Joe. Credit to Meltzer. Thoughts and opinions?
fisticuffs Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 I wish he had signed with TNA. The lack of competition for WWE is killing wrestling.
Eclipse Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 It should be interesting as to whom he will be fighting in WWE, but I know one will be Orton, in a rematch. It's gonna happen definitely, but other than that...I have no clue.
CanadianChick Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Edge for not being goofy? Maybe Flair?
Guest JMA Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 I'd like to see Foley feud with a heel Nick Dinsmore.
tominator89 Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 All of this negotiating just to promote a book.
Dangerous A Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 The part of the newsletter that distresses me a bit is they were going to use Foley in a figurehead role, showing me TNA isn't going to be that much of a change from WWE. Figure head is about the only thing Foley could really do since he isn't going to be wrestling full time, but TNA needs to work on not being WWE-lite.

Twisted Intestine Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 It would have been good for TNA. Hopefully he doesn't bring Joe to the WWE where they'll strap him with a shitty character and ruin his career.
NoCalMike Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 So the only question now is what cheezy product is he being allowed to plug in return for jobbing to the new generic roid freak?
The Ghost of bps21 Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 It would have been good for TNA. Hopefully he doesn't bring Joe to the WWE where they'll strap him with a shitty character and ruin his career. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Joe already chose to turn down WWE and signed a two year deal with TNA.
King Cucaracha Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Eh. He'll get nostalgic pops, but what have they got left for him to do and what rub has he left to give? In TNA, sure, there's plenty he could do and new characters to interact with. WWE doesn't offer much new or interesting for him. Is Foley still set on doing the Foley/McMahon match?

Is Foley still set on doing the Foley/McMahon match? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I hope not...and hasn't Vince said that he isn't going to do any more matches? I mean, he just turned 60...granted, it's hard to take anything Vince says without a grain of salt, but still, I can't see him wanting to take too many more bumps at this point.
Spaceman Spiff Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 It should be interesting as to whom he will be fighting in WWE, but I know one will be Orton, in a rematch. It's gonna happen definitely, but other than that...I have no clue. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why would he fight Orton again? Foley already put him over, so doing it again is pretty pointless.
Fökai Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 The only match I'm certain that Vince wants him to do is a Wrestlemania match. To be honest, it REALLY doesn't matter who they put him in the ring with.
dubq Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 If he was that interested in helping out TNA, then a same-money deal from WWE shouldn't have mattered. It's totally all about promoting a book or some other shit that I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.
humongous2002 Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 I would love to see a feud between Foley and RVD, that would be a dream hardcore match come true if Vince allows it.
Si82 Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 I wish he had signed with TNA. I think he could have gotten the company some decent publicity and, becuase he wants to, could have help to put Samoa Joe over. That, and as much as I like Foley, I'm sick of the sight of the cheap bastard. He only ever comes back to shill his books.
cabbageboy Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 The Foley/RVD match is an interesting idea but I don't see them as doing the same style exactly. Even in ECW I don't recall seeing an RVD match that was a sick bloodbath with thumbtacks and blood, etc. I'd rather see an RVD/Michaels match at WM, and quite honestly it really has to happen at some point. There really isn't much of anyone for Foley to wrestle at this point, besides he'd just be there to job to whoever.
Dips Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Didn't they want to do a match between Flair and Foley a while ago? They already got heat between the two because of the comments in Flair's book so it should be easy to do.
Guest Coffey Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 He'll probably be used to put over Chris Masters more. That is unless Shawn Michaels breaks the Masterlock on Monday.
AndrewTS Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Hooray for another 2-week ratings pop, a book plug, and a job to some worthless young slug. I also think Masters is the most likely candidate. If Foley and Michaels don't at least clash on the mic at some point, it's going to be kind of dull, IMO. At this point, we have no idea for when/how long the deal is for, right?

The Robfather Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Figure head roles are killing creativity in wrestling.
Lil' Bitch Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Flair, McMahon, or RVD. Those would be matches I would like to see.
snuffbox Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 I wouldnt mind a rematch with Shawn...
Dangerous A Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Figure head roles are killing creativity in wrestling. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Post. of. the. day. You all need to read this one sentence and contemplate it deeply.
Lord of The Curry Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Foley/McMahon doesn't interest me at all, nor does Foley vs RVD. Foley vs Flair would be forth it for the promo's, however.
jester Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 I think they should have Foley introduce the tournament for the Seniorweight division belt. That way they can insolate all of the old people they insist on keeping and bringing back. It would have more credibility than most of the belts on both Raw and Smackdown.
