Glavine's involved in another pitcher's duel with the Braves. It's 1-0 Mets heading to the 9th though they've left 8 men on and should have been able to scratch across at least an extra run or two.

Great, with that Phillies loss, the Pirates are now seven games back.

Of fifth place.

How many fucking games is Wright going to lose us in the 9th playing "defense"?

Wagner got the job done thankfully, and no matter what we leave Atlanta with at least a 6 game lead. I hope we bury these guys tomorrow.

Glavine turns in a masterful performance and the bullpen backs him up incredibly well. Mets win 1-0.

Big victory, as the Mets haven't taken a series in Atlanta in God knows how long.

Minaya's gonna start shopping him for Hispanics now.

Papelbon sets a new rookie record for saves in April with 10. Incidentally, what's the overall record for saves in April?

Oh, and today is the 20th anniversary of Clemens' first 20K game against Seattle, so huzzah and stuff.

The one thing that annoys me is the obsession with pinch-running Shane Victorino. He sits on first base because you can't steal second and leave a base open for Ryan Howard. He's just there in case someone hits a gapper. Meanwhile you've burnt your second best bench bat. What's wrong with using Nunez or Gonzalez to run?

Torii Hunter at $10.75 million and Brade Radke at $9 million are pretty much it although both were overpriced for past performance and being long term players with the franchise. I'm still kind of surprised they didn't trade Hunter this past offseason.

Well, after the Brewers got done pounding the Cubs yesterday, I'm definitely looking forward to today's "rubber match." Chris Capuano vs Carlos Zambrano...should be fun to watch either way.

Here's the pitching match-up preview, from MLB.com:

"Scouting Report:

Capuano has clearly been the Brewers' most consistent starter this season, with five quality starts, including two straight in which he's pitched at least seven innings. In his last two starts (both wins) Capuano has pitched a total of 14 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits with 14 strikeouts. The changeup has been the key pitch for Capuano, who led the Majors after his most recent start with 34 strikeouts.

It certainly seems odd that Carlos Zambrano ranks among the National League leaders in strikeouts but still doesn't have a win. Big Z matched a career high with 12 strikeouts in his last start April 24 against the Marlins yet did not get a decision. Zambrano also showed his strength when he broke his bat over his knee after striking out. Don't mess with him."

It's pouring. I don't think they'll get a game in. If they do, it'll be a damn ugly one.

Yeah...I checked the weather report, and it said the fan index was "1", which is the lowest possible...basically if you're at Wrigley, expect to have miserable conditions today.

I'm keeping track of the Mets game via Gameday at work, so I need a human being to confirm this for me.

Did Endy fucking Chavez just hit a home run?

Giambi just MURDERED a ball off the upper deck balcony. 4-1 yanks in the top of the 8th.

Hmmm...do the 2006 Jays = 2005 Orioles??? In about 2 months, we'll know.

As usual, the Reds/Pirates/Brewers play the Cubs hard and play dead for the Cardinals

Braves win 8-5 to snap a five game losing streak. Huzzah.

I really, really wish Matsui wouldn't bat number two when Lo Duca has a day off. Him and Reyes are just a black hole of OBP. Also, playing Endy Chavez when Victor Diaz is right there doesn't make any sense to me either.

For about the 3 of us who might care, the Tigers swept the Twins this weekend by a combined score of 33-1. Having been on the other side of such a stomping, I can sympathize with the Twins fans a bit.

Yeah, that was a pretty harsh series.

But the Yankees win the series with the "mighty" Jays.

The crowd at Turner Field shows some class by giving Franco a nice ovation as he comes to bat. It's a much better situation than, say, ridiculously bitter Astro fans booing Beltran at every given opportunity.

I just wanted to chime in and say that I was there Friday night, and being a part of the standing ovation was really cool. I was a big Franco fan last year.

Hey now, booing Beltran was great. There were a bunch of vendors selling "Beltran Sucks" shirts. Funny story, we went up to the first game of the Mets/Stros series last year, and my brother was really drunk and misjudged his funds, so he spent $15 on a "Beltran Sucks" shirt and had no money left to buy a ticket. Yeah, but Beltran did kinda dick Houston over. I mean, Houstonians took up a collection to donate to a charity in his name. He went on and on about how much he loved Houston and he loved the fans and how he didn't wanna play in New York and he didn't care about the spotlight, and then BOOM! I'm actually glad that he's gone. I'd much rather Willy Taveras than Carlos Beltran's .263 average for 17 million. And just for the record, Houston fans still love the Hell outta Jeff Kent, because he didn't play mind games and stuff.
