Lord of The Curry Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 Hustlin'- Rick Ross feat. Young Jeezy and Jay-Z Discussion ho. And if Felonies could avoid altogether posting in this thread it would probably help things flow a lot smoother.
Special K Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 Probably a majority of the songs on White Zombie's 'Supersexy Swingin' Sounds' are superior to the originals. Are we including mashups? If so my favorite are: Pink Floyd's 'Young Lust' with Biggie's 'Hypnotize (Dj's Z-Trip and Radar) Orbital's 'Halcyon', Bon Jovi's 'Shot through the Heart' Whoever did 'Heaven is a place on Earth' (Orbital)
Lord of The Curry Posted October 9, 2006 Author Report Posted October 9, 2006 Yeah, mash-ups are fine. Refrain from any/all Linkin Park and/or Jay-Z comments, plz.
Guest Felonies! Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 And if Felonies could avoid altogether posting in this thread it would probably help things flow a lot smoother. uggabugga I didn't even want to, geez. Way to give me shit for nothing.
Annabelle Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 mash ups are usually quite awful. and i am directly opposed to any hip house duo from france remixing an indie rock song. such a conflict of interest. though, i do usually like original music from said hip house duo from france. as far as rap goes, i like those because they don't transform the song. it essentially stays the same except a fellow mc will get a verse or whatever. which is inoffensive. i really enjoyed kanye, paul wall, and t.i.'s drive slow remix this summer. that was really nice. and of course, hustlin' with jay & weezy. but that was an unbelievable song to begin with.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 My favorite mash-ups come pretty exclusively from Go Home Productions. "Sexual High"--"Sexual Healing" and "High and Dry"--is the best one I've ever heard.
Gary Floyd Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Several of Aphex Twin's remixes are usually better than the original song
Ravenbomb Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 I like the Locust Toybox remix of Rebel Without a Pause about as much as the original
Darthtiki Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 I liked the Siren Mix version of "Milk" by Garbage with the flamenco guitars giving it a sexier vibe
Corey_Lazarus Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Probably a majority of the songs on White Zombie's 'Supersexy Swingin' Sounds' are superior to the originals. Blasphemy. Rob's openness to let his songs be remixed is bullshit, since every White Zombie remix I've heard has been awful save for the "Wine & Women" remix of "El Phantasmo & The Chicken Run Blast-O-Rama." That's on par with the original, but doesn't top it. Besides, WZ's later stuff was already industrial-influenced enough...so why remix it? I like the remixes of Bush's "Mouth" and "Swallowed" better than the originals. The remix of "Mouth" I'm talking about is featured in the American Werewolf in Paris soundtrack, and the "Swallowed" remix I'm thinking sounds like an air-raid siren for the most part.
PUT THAT DICK IN MY MOUTH! Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Do mixtape tracks where rappers use other rappers' beats count as remixes? Because if they do then the answer to this thread is every song on Clipse's We Got It 4 Cheap, Vol. 2.
razazteca Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 KMDFM remix of Megadeth's "Holywars".
FroGG_NeaL Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Do mixtape tracks where rappers use other rappers' beats count as remixes? Because if they do then the answer to this thread is every song on Clipse's We Got It 4 Cheap, Vol. 2. No doubt. But I think if a rapper makes a whole new song from the beat, it can count. Freestyles shouldn't count, though.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Flava In Your Ear(Remix) - Craig Mack ft. Notorious BIG, Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J, Rampage.
Brett Favre Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 A mash up I liked was "Lets Go" by Trick Daddy.
Lord of The Curry Posted October 10, 2006 Author Report Posted October 10, 2006 I'm listening to the "We Fly High" remix right now w/ Diddy, T.I, Baby and Young Dro.......and I cannot wrap my head around how Diddy hooked up with Dipset. I just cannot.
FroGG_NeaL Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Diddy and Cam'ron both have problems with Ma$e right now, that's how. Most of the DJ Kool Kid remixes of 2Pac's posthumous worksm are better than what is actually released.
snuffbox Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 How many rap stars/groups remixed Phil Collins songs?
FroGG_NeaL Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Alot. "In The Air tonight" has been sampled/reinterprated a ton of times.
Lord of The Curry Posted October 11, 2006 Author Report Posted October 11, 2006 None of them good, funnily enough.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 I'm listening to the "We Fly High" remix right now w/ Diddy, T.I, Baby and Young Dro.......and I cannot wrap my head around how Diddy hooked up with Dipset. I just cannot. Jim Jones and Diddy were always cool as far as I know. I remember Diddy appeared on his last album in a song with Paul Wall and Jia Jia.
Lord of The Curry Posted October 12, 2006 Author Report Posted October 12, 2006 Yeah, "What you been drankin' on?". It's just surreal to hear "THEY CALL ME DIDDY~!" over a Dipset beat. Plus, ya know, Diddy sucks and the like.
Ed Wood Caulfield Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 I've always liked The Grey Album and the Beastie Boys/Beatles mash-ups (Meet The Beastles and Let It Beast). "Lean Back (Remix)"-Fat Joe, Eminem, Lil' Jon, Remy Ma, & Mase "Jesus Walks (Remix)"-Kanye West & Mase "So What'cha Want? (Remix)"-Beastie Boys and Cypress Hill "19-2000 (Music Soulchild Remix)"-Gorillaz
Lt. Al Giardello Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Yeah, "What you been drankin' on?". It's just surreal to hear "THEY CALL ME DIDDY~!" over a Dipset beat. Plus, ya know, Diddy sucks and the like. It's a Harlem connection, yo.
Lord of The Curry Posted October 14, 2006 Author Report Posted October 14, 2006 Back Like That- Ghost, Ne-Yo and Kanye. Straight fyah.
Bruiser Chong Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 Yeah, "What you been drankin' on?". It's just surreal to hear "THEY CALL ME DIDDY~!" over a Dipset beat. Plus, ya know, Diddy sucks and the like. But he'll "put guys outside yo house." I guess I'm the only one here who preferred the original "Hustlin'" over the remix. Jeezy's awful and the track houses one of Hov's lazier efforts. I mean, the guy even used one of Ross' weaker lines from the original. I knew people who crapped on it when it was coming from Ross, but acted like it was hot when Jay said it. Oh and for the record, I primarily like the original because of the claps that are missing from the remix. They aren't all that prominant, but they added a nice undertone to the overall track.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 None of them good, funnily enough. DMX's one was a classic.
