When I used to be the manager/head bouncer at a nightclub, I ran into all kinds of dumb "racist" comments. I felt like getting out a Powerpoint Presentation with a pointer to educate this group of black guys who just didn't get it.

 

You see, I live in Huntington, WV, and for the past 4 years, Detroit gang members have been trickling into town and setting up shop. They called it Moneytown. We had a big layoff on police, which made it easier for them to push crack and coke here. I had to deal with them on a nightly basis, and saw my share of gunfights while I was there.

 

Our policy was to not let anyone in if they did not have a current ID. Could not be expired, and we checked thoroughly to make sure it was not fake and it was the patron's ID, not someone else's.

 

Here is a conversation I had one night, and there were many like this every night. Jimbo was my second in command, my 6'3", 350 black friend that I had known for years.

 

Me: "I need to see some ID."

Gangmember: "I ain't got it on me, man. I'm 25."

Me: "I still have to see an ID."

Gangmember: "You don't think I look 25?"

Me: "Sure, but so does my 16 year old cousin. That's why I need to see an ID to make sure."

Gangmember: "Man that's fucked up. You a racist!!!"

Me: "No, I turn away EVERYONE that doesn't have an ID."

Gangmember: "You just racist, motherfucker!!!"

Me: "Jimbo, am I racist?"

Jimbo: "No."

Gangmember: "Oh fuck you, you white motherfucker! You just a dumb ass white boy that's bein' racist against me."

Me: "You're being racist, not me."

Gangmember: "How can I be racist??? I'm black?!?!?"

My black bouncer buddy was at the door with me. It wasn't like I called him for support. The guys pulled the same shit with every scenario. These were things we were accused of being racist for:

 

-We closed the bar at 3:30 not because it is a state law, but because we were racist and didn't want the blacks in there that late.

 

-We ran out of Hypnotiq one night, and a guy started yelling about how we hate blacks because we didn't have enough on stock.

 

-We did pat downs on everyone, no matter what color their skin. Everyone hated it, but to the gangmembers, we were racist.

 

My point of the entire post, which was bolded, was the guy asked how he could be racist when he himself was black. Does no one see why I posted that?

LOL, I hope you're kidding and don't think that was what I was implying. The group that I was talking about were well-known drug dealers from Detroit. The locals---white, black, latino, whatever---didn't want these guys in the club either. We didn't want them in there, but we didn't purposefully try to keep them out. However, we DID card everyone, no matter of their race. This was just so we wouldn't get in trouble for letting underages in. When I typed "gangmember," it was because the guy was a gangmember. I just thought it was funny that he couldn't grasp the concept that any race could be racist toward another race. He thought it was simply against blacks.

I was managing/bouncing at a Wine & Martini Bar in Huntington, WV. The Detroit crowd came down here a few years back to set up shop. After 4 teens were murdered after the prom last year, things have settled down in this town. The feds have been here cleaning everything up.

 

I have never been to Detroit.
