EVIL~! alkeiper Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 The idea here is simple. I'm running a baseball sim on my computer, but instead of picking the teams myself, I'm looking for help. I'm asking each poster to select a team. First come first served, no repeats. No teams from the same franchise within five years of each other, and post-1900 teams only. You can choose to be represented by an all-time great team like the '98 Yankees, a memorable team like the '59 Go-Go White Sox, or maybe even an awful team like the '62 Mets. So take your picks, and hopefully we'll have some fun with this.
Cheech Tremendous Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 2004 Boston Red Sox That's the homer pick. I'll be back with some more interesting ones later for suggestions. I may have to consult with the Historical Baseball Abstract.
Vern Gagne Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 2006 Minnesota Twins. If they have Liriano on the roster.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 I could easily pick the 69 or 70 Orioles..but I want to pick a team that I was at least alive for, so either 83 or 97.. 83 won the world series, 97 went wire to wire to be the last team not the Yankees to win the AL East but then jobbed out to the Indians.. In a pickem..I take the 97 Orioles...they'll probably get jobbed out this time too.
Styles Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 In a pickem..I take the 97 Orioles...they'll probably get jobbed out this time too. Darn, that would have been my pick! I could go with one of the powerhouse teams from the 60s or 70s, but instead I'll go for something more interesting: The 1989 "Why Not?" Orioles. 1 win short of the playoffs coming off the worst season in franchise history.
MFer Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 Well I wasn't alive for it but I'll glady take the '84 Tigers which started out 35-5.
Smartly Pretty Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 the mariner team that won 116. 2001?
vivalaultra Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 Hmmm...I'll go 1998 Astros. I considered the 80 'Stros and the '86 'Stros, but...I went 98.
Guest Smues Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 95 Braves I'm thinking I possibly should have picked the 98 Braves, but gotta go with the team that won.
CanadianChris Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 '85 Blue Jays Damn, that was my pick. If I can take teams from strike-shortened years, I'll pick the '94 Expos. If not...give me the '86 Mets.
Bored Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 1990 Oakland A's Embarassing sweep at the hands of the Reds in the Series but were like the late-90's Yankees in that they acquired Harold Baines and Willie McGee near the end of the season not because they needed them but rather because they could.
humanoid92 Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 '46 Bo-Sox Al, just curious: What kind of sim are you using?
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted February 10, 2007 Author Report Posted February 10, 2007 '46 Bo-Sox Al, just curious: What kind of sim are you using? Strategic Baseball Simulator 4.8. It's freeware and ridiculously easy to work with once you get the jist of it.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 2002 Anaheim Angels
phoenixrising Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 Since someone has to... '27 Yankees
2GOLD Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 1919 Chicago White Sox better known as the Chicago Black Sox.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted February 10, 2007 Author Report Posted February 10, 2007 EDIT: Make that the 1990 Athletics. Bored already picked them.
Fökai Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 Geez, how did I miss that? Hmm. Make it the 2003 Braves.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 Pirates. Any team from 1993-2006. It doesn't really matter.
