few weeks ago Cinema Blend broke the news here that Tom Hanks had been locked in for "The Da Vinci Code" prequel "Angels & Demons", a deal that included one of the biggest salaries in the history of Hollywood to do it.

 

What could've been dismissed as Net rumour was picked up and confirmed by the trade papers a few days later. Now, the original source for the story has come back with a number - $35 million.

 

Yep, that's right - not just $35 million upfront, easily nabbing the record for highest paid actor, but a big piece of the back end too. That means as much as 25% of domestic ticket sales - another $15 million should the film do as well as 'Da Vinci'.

 

Agents for supermodel turned actress Gisele Bundchen are also apparently demanding modeling price style wages for her to star alongside Hanks in the film - an amount which could be worth something like $13 million.

 

Finally, the source says that "Angels & Demons" could be one of the most expensive films ever made - with a budget in the high $200 million range.

 

He's not worth a third that much.

Tom Hanks IS box office money. If anyone on the planet can justify a 50 million dollar tag, it is Tom Hanks.

Tom Hanks is HUGE overseas and he does damn well in the states as well. He is more than guaranteed to double production budget by being in a film. You have to go back to 1990 when he was in "Bonfire" and "Joe vs" to even find a movie that bombed. That is one HELL of a win streak.

I like the Terminal actually....I think it was a filler movie though....like Tom Cruise did War of the Worlds because he wanted McG to direct Mission Impossible 3 but he wasnt available so he Got the scpript to War of the Worlds from Speilberg and took it to basically pass time and make an extra 30 million...

How could anyone really argue against Hanks? He is the first most people would want to star in your movie. The crowds love him, he always gets respect from reviews and he can work well with many others. Hanks hasn't made a shitty movie in quite some time. Da Vinci Code was a shitty boook but it was packaged right as a movie. It was never intended to follow in line with Hanks usual dramatic act. He's worth the money.

I like Tom Hanks too...But the Da Vinci Code book was much better than the movie...Maybe if I hadnt seen National Treasure My opinion might be different....That's how you do Treasure Hunt Film..you could even go back to Indiana Jones for the How to....

Hanks' character in The Terminal was a thousand different kinds of awesome, but it was the crappy "love" story with Catherine Zeta Jones that really dragged things down.

 

The Ladykillers and Da Vinci were definitely stinkers, but this guy has an outstanding ratio of good:bad movies.

I liked the Terminal. If he ended up with Zeta Jones, I would have hated it, but since he didn't (I guess that is a spoiler, but really...who the fuck cares) I loved the move.

I find it odd that nobody's mentioned Forrest Gump yet in a Tom Hanks thread. Easily that was his best role, overexposed as it may be. Second best was in The Green Mile. Third best was on Bosom Buddies.

Giselle Bundchen sounds like terrible casting as Langdon's love interest. She was awful in Taxi, and I'm not sure how believable a 26 year old supermodel is with a 50 something actor (yeah, I know it's Hollywood but c'mon...).
